Great experience! Everyone worked to accommodate individual requests & needs. The group of women all liked their meals & the desserts disappeared! Highly recommend!
We pass The Montville Inn often & always wanted to dine there because of its long history and pretty curb appeal. So when we made reservations for six family members visiting from out of state we were really excited about trying it. We were seated immediately at a lovely round table with partial booth seating in the corner. Great location. Unfortunately that’s where my being impressed ended. We ordered cocktails which came in a timely manner. My brother in law, who is an avid yuengling beer drinker had to return his beer. Whether it was bad or just not yuengling, I’m not sure. My husband was the only one who ordered an appetizer, his favorite, French onion soup. He had to return it to be heated because it was literally cold. Ok so we chalk up a few little glitches and continued to look forward to our main courses. First of all, not even a little house salad. Really? Are we expecting too much? Anyway, two of us ordered the Parmesan white wine salmon special. Mine was smothered with sauce. Too much for me. Asparagus was good and the mashed potatoes tasty. Too bad everything was less than lukewarm. My husband ordered Kung pao chicken, although why he would order that in a non Asian restaurant, i’m not sure. It was cold, had very little glaze & essentially tasted like chicken nuggets. Please take my advice, don’t order that if you should go. My brother in law loved his shrimp scampi. My sister in law ordered the chicken Marsala. Aside from her dish not being hot enough, the bow tie pasta was crispy on the edges where it might have been exposed to a heat source, but the bulk of the pasta was cool to touch. Our niece requested a special order due to dietary needs of grilled salmon over sautéed veggies. She said it was very tasty & we appreciate the accommodation. I think overall we just couldn’t understand how everyone’s dish wasn’t served even warm never mind hot. Truthfully we didn’t wait for our food. It was served at a comfortable pace. So disappointing
First time and I would describe the Inn as a neighborhood, comfortable place for dinner. Had the crab cake app and salmon special, both were well prepared and delicious. Portion was large and we both took food home. Service good, waiter knowledgeable. Overall good solid restaurant.
The Montville Inn is a regular for our after theater get togethers.
Staff needs better training to be more attentive
Food was great as always! Recently came for a double date and another time for Sunday dinner. The portions are large and the food and drinks are delicious.
Unfortunately, one of our favorite restaurants in now our least favorite. we will never return. The noise level in the restaurant was so loud we found ourselves leaning over the table to try and hear each other. The food quality has changed for the worse. The waiter should not be a waiter anywhere. We were completely ignored though out the serving. When our entrees came we had to help the staff remove our appy plates. While you order the waiter tries to finish your sentence and picks the wrong dish, then you correct him and he doesn't write down any of your asks, like, please no crumbled blue cheese on my endive salad. No one checked the bread basket. no one checked our sparkling water bottle for a refill. So unprofessional.
lastly, I'm watching a staffer clean a table. They don't clean tables here, the push the food off the table to the floor, she shook the placemats over the table that she wiped to the floor. She never once washed the tabletop.
we used to be regulars and ate at the bar for some time, then the bar just got louder so we sat on the outside tables around the bar, then the menu changed and so did the clientele.
Never, never, never, again ! and we live one mile away...
We met friends for a casual evening and it was good for that, although we thought that the noise level was too high. We could hear each other but, if there had been another couple requiring a larger table, we think it would not have been a nice experience with the high noise leve.
We were there for a 7 pm dinner. The restaurant was about 3/4 full. Caesar salads were tasty and not overdressed. Rack of Lamb was cooked perfectly but a little over sauced and salty for me, but delicious none the less. Chicken Marsala was huge! And reported as perfectly juicy, lots of mushrooms and a good temp. The Cowboy steak for 2 was portioned for 1. 16 oz. Bone in. Reported to be a bit tasteless. Steak sauce fixed that complaint. Overall a nice evening.
Great night out- terrific food, good service and cozy ambiance. Will return!
Haven't been to the Montville Inn in over a year and a half. My last few experiences there were not good. However, a friend informed me that there was a new chef and the Inn was under new management. My friend and I decided to try it again. We were pleasantly and happily surprised. Our waiter, Anthony, was wonderful and very attentive. Our food was brought out in a timely manner, hot and very good. We are very happy that we tried the Montville Inn again. It's practically around the corner from our residences which is extremely convenient. We will be going back....a lot!
Food was good! Took a while for the food to come. Fish tacos were very spicy.
Friendly staff, excellent food in an historic setting. Plenty of menu options.
Food good as usual . Few mistakes from kitchen served improperly.
Not a great experience
Will not be going back any time soon
This was my first dining experience at the Montville Inn, & my wife & I had a wonderful visit. We were seated promptly at our reservation time, the service was wonderful & the food was quite good. I highly recommend it.
Calamari two ways is excellent. Chicken Murphy special was enough to bring some home for lunch. Mahi mahi slightly over cooked but still tasty. Noise level very high. Servers were pleasant. Just wish it was quieter.
Nice place with good service. We may have selected the wrong dishes, but one was from the daily specials, the food just wasn’t good. I was disappointed because it’s a cozy spot not to far from us and I thought I discovered a great new go-to Resturant.
Experience started with a delightful hostess who was friendly and helpful. Then continued with the our server. He was wonderful, helpful, offered suggestions, checked in with us and anticipated our needs. All things that might be expected but usually things that fall short. Food was good, atmosphere very nice and a convenient location for meeting friends. I'll be back.
Always happy with service and food at Montville Inn, just with the BBQ pizza would be brought back to the menu... SOOOOO GOOD!
I WANT to like this place given the proximity to my home. Unfortunately, the service and the food are not good. We had a 7:15 reservation and were seated immediately. Great! After ordering, we waited 45 minutes for our salads. They weren't as ordered but by then we were really hungry so we just picked off the things we asked not to be included. We both had dinner specials that were mediocre at best. The last time I was here, I was served raw chicken but really wanted to give it another try. Disappointing and apparently not just a "one-off".
Food was excellent. Appetizers were nice size. Couldn’t finish my meal. Unfortunately had no room for dessert. But we loved everything we ate
Everything was amazing! Service was impeccable and the food was delicious!
I love this restaurant, I've been there several times for lunch and dinner. This time there was so much salt on all four of our meals that we could not eat most of it. It was very disappointing.
There were 4 of us and we all enjoyed our meals. Two of us thought we were given too much food and had to take it home - which wasn't a bad thing but we both thought that the portions were too large so, perhaps, a bit off putting if you were not in the position of taking it home.
Enjoyed our dinner overall but a few minor service issues and some items weren’t hot enough.
When we arrived we were seated at a "make shift" table in the bar, we asked to be moved and waited a few minutes for a regular table to become available. It was a lovely table but they forgot to assign a waiter to us - so we waited a little longer. Waiter was super polite and apologetic for situations that were out of his control. We modified some dishes and the kitchen messed them all up. One dish (pasta) came out 15 minutes before the rest of our meals. Hamburger was dry with stale bread. Owner/Maitre de came over to ask if everything was ok, while he clearly knew there was a problem and was hoping we didn't complain. It was a busy night so I would give it a second try on a less busy night with some bar food.
Excellent food and very friendly staff. Wheelchair accommodations for my dad that I had asked for to be seated as close to the entrance as possible, as to not disturb the other patrons, were excellent.
Disappointing this time. Poor presentation of familiar recipes. Waiter and manager apologetic. However, the preparation was poor.
Had a get together (2nd time) here for 4 old friends. It was quiet, so we could enjoy talking. Prices were reasonable, and the food very tasty. I particularly like the ambiance and the history of the place. Service was great.
Food has changed . Pasta was mushy, tomato sauce was flavorless. Pricey for portion size. Chef preparations not appealing.
Great neighborhood eatery. Varied menu light dining to full meal
Had a bit of a delay getting our table (I think they forgot that we were waiting at the bar), and the service that evening was generally slow, with multiple servers. Not too much of an issue, as the food was excellent and worth the wait.
We are usually ver happy with the Montville Inn, but this last trip was not good.
The service was not great, we waited for our server for anything we wanted.
The food was not as great as usual as well.
We will probably go back, but not for a while.
The food was very good and the wait staff and management were very pleasant and accommodating. They were very busy and we had to wait a little while for the second cocktail but nothing terrible. I would definitely go there again. Portion size very good. Ate half of my meal and took half home.
Met ther for a pre holiday frends dinner. Everything was great. Thank you to the Montville Inn.
Food is inconsistent from visit to visit. Very salty and just not good. I had crab cakes loaded with salt, very bad. Also ordered the sword fish special which was raw in the middle and loaded with seasoning spices that hid the flavor of the fish.
We have been to the Montville Inn many times and is hit or miss depending on what you order.
This was the last straw. Not going back for dinner.
I have been there before and it was much better than their Wed. night pasta night. Their pasta was mushy (think it was reheated a few times) and the meatballs were hard and not good. I left most of the plate and was hungry when I left. If you have a special pre-fixed meal, it should be as good as your regular menu meals.
great selection of food for the whole family. It was a little too salty was our only complaint.
The Montville Inn is very consistent in the quality of their delicious food. The ambience is cozy, and the staff is very friendly. Jen keeps on top of things, and makes us feel so welcome, and the service is great. The servers are friendly and professional. Love The Montville Inn.
