Outstanding, thank you Open Table reviewers. We chose the restaurant based upon reviews we read and were absolutely pleased. We shared two small plates and each had entrees. (Chicken and duck breast) and everything was top notch. Wine list is long with many local (unknown to us) producers but we had a very nice local Chardonnay. Would highly recommend, and this is coming from a New Yorker.

Historically, we think this is one of the best restaurants in Monterey. The food is delicious but sadly the service this time was not good. We had long periods of time with no one attending our table before we ordered and throughout the meal. We waited in need of water refills and to order an additional bottle of wine. Once we ordered the wine it took some time to arrive and our meal was eaten. The staff seemed overtasked and stressed. The wine director was delivering food and the hostess took our dessert order.

I couldn't have been happier. We loved everything. The wine the server suggested with my steak was amazing. My "hell hath no fury" was delicious and the tussle fries were to die for. lol Great work by the chef and his or her whole team. I am having my next business dinner there Tuesday 6/26. Cant Wait!

I first went to Montrio Bistro when it opened in the mid-90's, and enjoyed it so much, we would go there when special occasions took us to Monterey. We probably didn't go for the past 10 years, just because our activities didn't line up with having dinner in Monterey. But this last year, we went back last year for Father's Day, and I picked Montrio Bistro for dinner because of past good memories. I was worried it wouldn't live up to those past experiences though. Amazingly, it did, and so again for Father's Day this year, I requested to enjoy the Monterey area with dinner at Montrio Bistro to top it off.

The food ingredients are fresh, and the preparation wonderful. This year, we decided to share a bunch of small plates, and they were all wonderful! The asparagus ravioli was delicious, the pasta was excellent! The mushroom polenta was a great combinations of tastes! The crab cakes exploded with the delicate taste of dungeness crab! Thank you for another memorable dinner!

First time going there based on the great reviews. Definitely lived up to the hype. Everything about my experience was excellent. My date and I started off our dinner with the Shrimp Mac n Cheese as an appetizer. I had the Braised Short Rib with mash potatoes and a side of green beans for dinner. We ended the evening with the S'more for dessert. It was all to die for. Our waiter Scott was extremely helpful and knowledgeable all items on the menu. Definitely looking forward to my next time there.

Our first experience at Montrio Bistro was outstanding. Very courteous and friendly staff.
The service was efficient and pleasant. The food was outstanding. We shared the evening special of ciappino and it was great. The artichoke fritters were delicious too. The dining room
beyond the bar was quiet enough to hear each other's conversation, which is a big plus!

Heard good reviews on this place and was in town so we decided to try. First off we received our appetizer which was bacon wrapped shrimp. $7.50 for two shrimp. The shrimp has not been cleaned so we sent it back. After that point we were a little grossed out and tried to enjoy our meal but were not at all impressed by the meal we received. Definitely not worth the price tag.

My husband and I had a great dinner here. I had a smokey whiskey cocktail (called Saving Private Ryan) that was super delicious and the food was interesting and yummy. We liked the small plates because we were able to taste more off the menu. Dessert (smores bite) was super good. Service from our waiter, Scott, was impeccable.

The manager has substituted some horrible bottled tea instead of Sport Tea, so we will not be back. Seating for couples is unnecessarily difficult. You are part of your neighbor’s table whether you want to be or not. Too bad, food and service are above average for the area.

10 for service, we were seated by 2 loud tables so I can’t speak to a weekday dinning experience. Great steak for a great price. I’d go back

Ambiance is nice, service was excellent, but what comes out of the kitchen didn’t live up to the rest of the package. I had the lamb merguez, the largest proportion of dish was the pickled cauliflower, really I can’t imagine anyone wanting to eat a mountain of pickled anything. Also had the crispy artichoke heart, it too was overdone with pickled flavoring. My wife had the cappellini pasta, it was good but not exciting, although portion was sizable.

Maybe their other dishes are better.

Food was amazing. The waiter was very helpful, funny, knowledgeable, and the perfect amount of attentive. Nothing felt uncomfortable and by the end of the meal we felt at home. Even the hostess was very friendly. We showed up early to check in and they seated us happily. This will be a top pick for us when picking our next date spot

This was our third trip to Montrio, the first in about two years. For the first time, we were seated upstairs, the third couple to find themselves in this medium-sized dining room. We were a little concerned that we'd done something wrong to be relegated to the "family room", but the open tables filled up quickly. Food, as always, was spot on. The service was very good in the beginning, but as the tables filled up, the service went down. At the end of our meal, our server apologized for essentially ignoring us for a half hour or so. We would have preferred more attentive service, but we gave our server credit for recognizing that service was not up to par. All in, we'd definitely dine here again should we find ourselves in Monterrey.

We recently visited here on our last day in Monterey. It didn’t disappoint. My hubby had ‘The Ultimate Burger!’ He ate it all and the homemade bacon was incredible. I had the chicken main which was also amazing.
Donice was our waitress and was lovely, attentative and funny 😊

Would definitely go back. A fantastic honeymoon restaurant!

Absolutely amazing! We ordered 3 small plates and split an entree and had plenty of food. Barely room for dessert. Tastes were very different in each dish, well balanced, simply outstanding. I would give them 6 stars.

Montrio Bistro is an attractive, upscale space in downtown Monterey. On this Monday evening, it was crowded with most tables occupied, so reservations would be recommended. The menu is divided into "bites", "medium plates" and "entrees". Our waiter told us that "medium plates" were typical appetizers, but the asparagus, cheese and ham medium plate that I ordered was enough for two. It was tasty, but so hearty that I regretted ordering a large entrée. The king salmon, however, was excellent, served on a bed of risotto and surrounded by a tomato based sauce. My partner enjoyed his crab cake appetizer, but reported his pasta entrée to be bland. Tables are sufficiently close together that you'll feel like your participating in your neighboring table's conversations. Overall: a very good restaurant, but one that I don't feel compelled to visit on every trip to Monterey.

Montrio provides beautifully simple and innovative CA cuisine with extremely fresh ingredients; servers are knowledgable and cool. Plating emphasizes the fresh farm to table approach {ie is not gimmicky} Decor and chilling music add to your experience. Strong wine list. Keep up the good work, Montrio!
