Montrio Bistro Ratings and Reviews
The food and service was impeccable. Fresh produce, tender meat and top shelf service. The menu is bacon-heavy but thats a good thing! The Saving Private Ryan hand crafted bourbon cocktail with a huge smoked ice cube (don't ask...I don't know how they get a smokey flavored ice cube) finished with almond extract and a twist was unique an tasty. My wife had a Hell Hath No Fury lemon drop martini-like drink made with pear flavored vodka; exceptional. The deserts were over the top though. Now I don't typically care for bread pudding but their rendition with white chocolate and vanilla ice cream was decadent. The 3 scoops of ice cream my wife ordered: salted caramel and bacon (of course), passion fruit and buttered popcorn that tasted just like the name implies was also exceptional. MonTrio will positively NOT disappoint!
The bacon & almond butter appetizer and the curry mussels were divine! And then the chocolate custard with mint ice cream left us speechless. We were so happy and full...that we had to get our Wagyu burgers “to go.”
One of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time...thank you, Montrio!
Wanted to find a romantic restaurant in the Monterey area to celebrate our wedding anniversary since we were going to drive down from Oakland over that weekend. Found Montrio Bistro and read reviews. It seemed like the perfect place. And it was!!!! The food, service and ambience were all just excellent. Because I had indicated on the reservation that it was an anniversray dinner, they had a table reserved for us in a quieter area of the restaurant. Little red hearts were scattered on the table. I thought it was in honor of Valentine's Day but it was to indicate to servers that we were an anniversary couple. Our waiter, Timothy, was very attentive in spite of the restaurant being super lively that night. Earlier that day we were at Hahn Winery and our server asked us where we were going for dinner. I could not remember the name at that time but I said it started with an M. She immediately said Montrio Bistro, her favorite place and gave us her food recommendations.
We are still talking about our wonderful experience. We would go back in a heartbeat if in the area again.
My dining experience was alright. Don't get me wrong the reviews looked great. Me and my sister came in for our lastnight together before I head off to college. Our waiter wasn't the most attentive to us (not sure if it was because we were younger or not). No matter the age though, every costumer should be treated with respect. We waited at our table for 30 minutes after our server inteoduced herself without bread or water. We eventually had to tell the hostess that our server forgot about us. Other servers checked on us which I appreciated, just not ours. The food was good, a little pricy which was expected but overall it was good. I think the vibe we got from the server threw our whole experience off. I think the night would have been a lot more fulfilling. Other than the sever we got, The restaurant was very nice and the food was good. I usually don't write reviews but when I am discriminated because of my age, I feel the need to.
We are so glad we were able to dine here for our anniversary. Everything was great!
Hands down the best dining in Monterey which is hard to achieve with so many good options of restaurants!
Jose was was our waiter and was excellent along with the entire staff. The food was so good we had dinner there the next evening and it was just another fantastic experience.
Highly recommend this restaurant.
We took a chance and decided to try something new, rather than go to all our favorite spots. So this was the restaurant we chose. We loved everything we tried. We loved our cocktails, we loved the seared sea scallops, we loved the braised short rib, and, of course, our white chocolate bread pudding dessert.
Easy parking, we suggest you give this place a try.
A great dining experience always starts with the hostess and she was amazing. Accommodating, and clam, perfect combination for such a hectic job. Drinks at the bar awesome (bartender had great recommendations); our waiter was confident and attentive; food excellent. Perfect in every way with one exception. No option for creamer in our after dinner coffees except cream or milk. No soy, almond or coconut milk options.
We normally have a superb experience. The food this time around was not up to par. The calamari was burnt and rubbery. The brick chicken was under seasoned. The ravioli was terrible - normally my favorite dish. There was so much oil/grease/fat poured on top it was inedible. It was a flavorless, thick, dripping oily mess of a liquid poured over the top of the rest of the food, and completely ruined the entire dish.
While on a trip to Monterey, I decided to try this restaurant instead of the many located on the water. After reading many reviews of the area restaurants, my suspicion was that the prices of the water front restaurants were more about the view than the food. I'm glad I chose Montrio Bistro. Our group was diverse: 2 middle age parents, one 30 y/o son, and one 23 y/o son. Everybody ordered something different from small bites, to medium plates, to salads and entrees. Everything was excellent. No disappointments here. The only challenge was finding a parking place and to avoid that hassle, we walked to the restaurant.
This experience was excellent, the food and service by Haven was outstanding. Our previous meal had not been so positive and I had contacted the restaurant, we had wanted to talk to the Chef this time but he never came out to talk to us-even after there had been this email communication previously. Disappointing, but guess he did not care! No doubt we will return as it is generally a nice experience.
Super excellent dinner last night! We followed the suggestions of our server Ashton who did not fail us! Especially notable was the mushroom and polenta small plate and the scallop medium plate!
The s'mores small plate dessert shouldn't be skipped either!
The specialty drink menu is crafted to perfection!
The only sour note was the snarky barmen serving on the right hand side of the bar if you're facing it. He make a good drink but an attitude adjustment is needed. A little dry humor is personally welcome for me, but the line was crossed in several interactions, both personally and witnessed.
We can see that this was just one bad apple in an otherwise stellar bunch, so no score penalization :)
The food was well presented and tasty. Our server was spot on, attentive but not overly so. Only complaint was the weird techno / drum beat music. Very distracting and headache inducing which made us want to hurry up and finish. Not the relaxing ambiance we expected for a nice cozy/relaxing dinner. Ditch the techno music for jazz and turn it down so not to challenge conversation. Other than that, I would go back again.
It is number one on trip advisor for a reason (which is how I selected it for a first trip there!)Whole night was a best ever! 1. Best bartender ever. Sorry I forgot his name, but he was a newly wed from Tijuana originally. A true mixologist who custom made our cucumber and mint martinis to perfection —-and thought our football team would win! (Go Uga dawgs. We are in Ca. for the Rosebowl and took a pre-game side trip to Monterey and thrilled we did! ) 2. Everything we ordered was a best ever and I woke up this morning trying to devise ways to recreate the 48 Hour Bacon appetizer which my husband thinks is worth a trip back to Monterey next year whether we are in the Rosebowl or not. It was a perfect 10 on texture, flavor, mix of savory and a natural hint of sweet and the sauce was perfect! . The ingredients chosen to accompany the thick-cut sous vide cooked for 498hours, then finished on a flat top bacon were the absolute perfect choices. I can’t rave on this enough. The short rib was the best one my husband has ever had and he orders that often. My duck breast was amazingly tender and flavorful which is hard to achieve. All tens! 3. Our waiter was friendly and gave off an impression that we were his favorites. A true gift. His name was Carl and he was a gem. If we thought it, he appeared with it! I can whole heartily recommend this restaurant as a must! An absolute must. Don’t even think about not going. We are seriously coming back to California again just to dine here again! Monterey has been a hit!
