Was in Monterey for the holiday weekend and looking for a nice dinner.

The good:
48 hour bacon - Must try.
Chocolate crunch with coconut ice cream.

Needs improvement:
8 pm reservations, but still waited 20 minutes to be seated.
Wine recommendation was a miss. Local winery Santa Cruz/Monterey. Maybe we're spoiled being from SF and Napa.
Reviews raved about the braised short rib. Thought it was just okay. The brickyard chicken was better.

Fantastic service, despite being late for our reservation; they sat us and hurriedly cooked and served our meal in the small timeframe that was our fault. The ambiance was cheque and cultured, with wonderful artwork and great music everywhere. I particularly liked the metal bird statue they hand on the stairway up to the second level dining area. All in all, a great local spot in Monterey!

Fantastic gourmet cuisine in a lively upscale atmosphere. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. Monterey/Carmel area is filled with excellent restaurants, but Montrio stands out as one of the best. The beef short ribs were incredibly tender and flavorful.

The salad and entrees were brilliant. We especially liked the bread pudding dessert which was real treat. However, the bread was like warm, stale wonder bread — awful.

Packed stressfully close and noisy enough that it is easier to hear the speech of the person at the next table than your own. Menu with its own twists and turns and lots of surprises, if that is what you are looking for in a meal.

We love the ambiance of Montrio, warm and inviting and not too noisy. Great service by very professional server who didn't push us to order, and since it was Valentine's Day, didn't try to hurry us out at the end of the dinner. Great cocktail selections. Only downer was the dinner itself which wasn't really great. Pumpkin ravioli had too much "pumpkin pie spice" in it making it taste like pumpkin pie, and it was served with roasted apples, which were good on their own but added too much sweetness to the already sweet pumpkin --- suggest chef use
mushrooms or something umame instead. Also the crab cake and salmon were good but way too much butter/oil.

I have seen this Resturant for years but went in for happy hour because a relative moved in the area. I brought my husband back and we have been enjoying dining there. What is so funny is the fact that I eat at their sister Resturant Tarpy's Roadhouse a least 40 0r more times a year and I been doing it for at least 10 years.

On the heels of a trip to a foodie heaven (Charleston, SC), we were very impressed with Montrio Bistro. Unique dishes (e.g., baby kale salad, poutine) that were awesome. Service was great; for example, our waiter, Scott, commented that the poutine was a meal in and of itself, and I’m glad I listened because it is heavy and dense (but delicious). Happy hour wine was okay (went to bar first), but restaurant wine list was impressive. Only mild criticism was dessert took awhile to be served because they got busy, but once it got there, it was phenomenal (small bite (which we appreciated after filling meal)) carrot cake and ice cream for $6). Highly recommend this restaurant.

The service was great! The 40oz steak for $120 was disappointing. Meat was not tender & was a bit chewy. Expected it to be much better. Caesar salad was okay, not garlicky. Crab cakes were okay but didn’t like the thousand island dressing. Artichoke appetizer was non eventful. This use to be one of my favorite restaurants in Monterey, but this time it was just okay, didn’t love the meal for spending $350 for two adults & two children.

We were disappointed with our dining experience last night. Service was poor from the hostess to the bar server to our waiter. We arrived an hour early and were told by the hostess to wait in the bar. She told us 15 minutes later the she could seat us then (as we were eating an appetizer). There was awkward confusion about transferring our bar bill to our dinner bill. The dinner service was great up until our food came. Then we turned invisible. We waited after finishing our meals for 20 minutes as the tables next to us were attentively served. We couldn't eve seem to get our water glasses refilled.
The food was really pretty mediocre. We both ordered meat cooked medium rare. Her lamb was medium (and gristly), mine was medium well. The ambience was nice, but the ratings for this restaurant seem way too high.

Scott was an outstanding server! And the food was fabulous; all of us loved our selections. In fact one of our group took another group there the following night. We are here attending an annual meeting.

Delicious food, great server. We had a reservation and were seated right away, which doesn’t happen at some restaurants. Most of us had short ribs which were fabulous, tender but with a lovely crunchy exterior. The salmon was also a hit. We topped our meal with yummy bread pudding. Would definitely recommend Montrio!

The food at Montrio is mediocre at best, and drastically overpriced. There are so many better places to eat in the Monterey/Carmel area. This is fine if you're at a conference at the hotels nearby and don't want to drive anywhere, and your company is paying for the meal. Otherwise, don't waste your money. Plus, the cocktails are weak and the wine pour is meager.
