Monticello at Red Bank Ratings and Reviews
Dinner for 4 on Saturday night was very good. Appetizers were good although the cheese platter for $19 was a bit much. Main course drew rave reviews from all - Veal Parm, Pork Chop, Sea food dish, and pasta with sea food were delicious. Owner/head chef came out and shared a home made liquor for after dinner. It is a BYOB. Just a tiny bit pricy but probably worth it.
Once again we had a very good meal. Two of us had the ameritriciana, which was exceptional. The salads were too. One of our party had the veal Milanese, and though it was fine, the dish needed something else, either pasta or some sauce or drizzle. Our server, Daniel, was great--friendly, engaging and helpful. Their price fix is very hard to beat. We recommend it highly.
Arrived 15 mins before reservation and was seated promptly. I was concerned about reviews I read re:. Noise level. No problem on a Friday @4:45. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner. My husband had veal parm and he liked his entree. He is an extremely picky eater. I had a special with cod, mussels and clams over the creamiest risitto. Had leftovers the next day.. Delicious!! Definitely would go back. We left about 6:15 and noticed the noise level was tolerable. Very courteous service.
I grew up close to the area, and was here quite often. I never knew this place existed until I was researching on the computer for some place new to eat; all I can say is that I am super happy I came across this restaurant. The food was outstanding! My friend and I liked all the specials for the night, so we ordered all of them. We ate a lot of seafood dishes, which were superb! I liked the ambiance, as did my friend because we haven't had a girl's night in awhile where we were able to just talk. It's great for a night out with friends but also a great place to go for a date night with your significant other. I can't wait to come back here!!
Have been to Monticello several times. This time just like the last time the service was horrible. It took our waitress 50 minutes just to bring bread to our table after asking 3 times!! Our meal came out about about 90 minutes after we ordered it. Our reservation was for 7:45 and we left the restaurant at 10:00pm, not even ordering any dessert. It took another 20 minutes to get our check after we asked for it. It's unfortunate that Monticello can't get their act together when it comes to service.
The food is great, the service has a lot to be desired.
Read many reviews that stated that the service was poor but the food was great. Well we had the exact opposite experience...decent service and mediocre food at best. So many fabulous restaurants in Red Bank...Monticello is a definite pass for us!
We've been here a number of times and have never been disappointed. One of our visits was on a Friday and it was very noisy and hard to have a conversation. But on a Tuesday or a Wednesday with only four or five tables taken it was a very nice dinner. There was only one server but she was very attentive. She explained the prix fixe menu to us and we opted for it even though it was cash only. The courses were spaced out well and we enjoyed everything we ordered. We dine out once a week and will definitely be back again.
While all dishes were relatively tastey, the dining experience at Monticello was marred by poor service and an exceptionally high noise level in the restaurant. Service was inattentive and delayed. Our finished plates sat in front of us for 30 min. before being cleared and the restaurant, though busy, was not "packed." Service for each course was simply too slow. Thank goodness we were with friends and enjoyed each others' company so the meal did not otherwise drag. We originally sat mid-restaurant and had to move because it was so loud we could not hear our server. The front of the restaurant wasn't much better. They should use something (e.g. tapestry/drapery) in the interior of the restaurant to absorb sound. Food was above average, typical Italian fare. Overall, not memorable in a positive fashion.
A wonderful gem in Red Bank. We were in Red Bank to attend a show at the Count Basie Theater and were looking for a good venue for dinner beforehand. Our son was visiting with us and enjoys Italian food. The veal parmesan was outstanding as was the Flank steak special. We capped it off with a wonderful flavored cappuccino and desert. We would definitely return.
Our experience was good the environment and food was great! Plan to spend the night there the food does take a while but it is so worth the wait perfect for dates where couples can sit and talk with no rush. It reminded me of a true Italian style dinner where you were closely sat and everyone was talking like it was one big family get together even though there was several groups of people there! We really enjoyed it !!
The four of us ordered from the $20 prix fixe menu. Didn't realize it was cash-only for that promotional menu but luckily it was not a problem (it says it on the website, but I didn't catch it). Food was outstanding! The first-course salads were good size, fresh, nicely dressed. For entrees, two ordered Amatricciana with Sausage, one Pappardelle Monticello, and one Chicken Pizzaiola -- all delicious, colorful, flavorful. The ice cream sundaes with fresh-berry sauce for dessert were surprisingly yummy and a just-enough-sized sweet finish. This meal was a fantastic value! Only negative was that with the low lighting in the restaurant -- which we love -- would have been nice to have a working candle at the table.
The food itself was mostly good, but it took quite a long time to be served (about an hour). The portion size for the appetizer would have been great for 2; but we were 4. My daughter ordered a pasta meal which was to include goat cheese and fusilli. When the plate was brought to the table, the pasta was rigatoni - our waiter informed her that he forgot to tell her that they were out of fusilli when she ordered. No option was offered to order something else in it's place had she not be willing to eat the rigatoni. And while she faintly tasted the goat cheese, there were no visible signs of the cheese in the dish. Also sparse was the sausage in the Amatriciana with Sausage dish. On the more positive note, the stuffed chicken and the grilled salmon dishes were delicious.
Not a good experience, felt like we were in a restaurant on the decline.
Intention was good but food not at all.
Sufficient service personnel but they were not working together.
I had the papardalle , which was doughy and stuck together.
Cream for the coffee was curdled.
The ambiance was terrific as it had low lighting, especially nice for an Italian restaurant. Service was very good and so was the food. The only problem with the night was that the air conditioning wasn't working (and it was a very hot day) Unfort. the fan in the middle of the restaurant didn't work either. They need to have a back up. Would have appreciated a complimentary coffee or dessert(or at least offered)
