Montgomery Inn - At the Boathouse Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time at Montgomery Inn Boathouse but it won't be the last. The service we received was exceptional and the food was amazing. We were seated very near the windows and had an incredible view during our meal. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and overall a class act. We drove an hour and a half to get here and it was well worth it. I'll be looking forward to our next visit.
Montgomery Inn at the Boathouse is always a satisfying occasion. Great food, Scenic River View, place for locals as well as tourists to enjoy with 2 levels of seating plus an outdoor area nice during warm weather months. With a Sports Memorabilia theme, it's fun to enjoy. Always offering valet parking at all times, there are plenty of self-parking spots available. Must order the pork or beef ribs...even at lunchtime...and wear your bibs, your shirts will thank you later.
I had seen this all lit up from across the river and had to see what it was. To my surprise it was a very good pick for my birthday. It was romanic yet comfy. Waiter was wonderful and even brought me a dessert with a candle in it. I'm new to area and waiter was very helpful. The pulled pork and riblet was wonderful and ribs were good too. Then went upstairs to balcony to see all the lights from that side. A very good birthday. Thank you!
We had reservations which only put us on a list once we arrived. We were told there would be a wait of 15 to 30 minutes. It was more like 45 minutes even though there were empty tables. They were apparently being saved for groups that might come in. In order to honor their time estimate, it would have been better to separate some tables and seat the couples that were waiting.
The food was excellent but I would hesitate to go back unless I had nothing else to do that evening. We were trying to get to a show and had allowed ourselves enough time if we had been seated when they estimated.
Normally I'd write this off as a bad night, but this was my second time here with the same results. We were seated immediately and that was unexpected and nice. My appetizer was overcooked but edible. My ribs, something I like to believe I know something about, were a little burnt on the edges and slightly overcooked and dry. They were decent enough but this was exactly like I'd had before. I would never discourage anyone from going here but I know that if I ever return it wont be for ribs.
Great service and while we weren't seated in the main dining room with the river view, we were seated in the upper restaurant which had a great view, even though not right at the window. Service was good. I was surprised that when I said my guest was a first time visitor, that I had to prompt the waiter to tell them about the speciality of the house...the ribs! The waiter talked about swordfish and steak and didn't mention the ribs until I prompted him. But all in all was a good experience.
Everything was very good. We opted for the three course meal for $33. What a deal! Ribs were tasty and perfectly cooked. A little too much BBQ sauce as a topping for my taste but the sauce is very good. Servcie was excellent. Ron was personable and attentive. Side dishes were adequate but didn't knock my socks off. The chips were a big hit at our table. I'll. E going back here.
Everything was good but we spent $240.00 for dinner and to also pay $18 for parking since we came in 3 cars. Seems ridiculous to pay to park in order to eat dinner. This is Cincinnati not Chicago or New York. I doubt that I will return since I hate unnecessary expenses.
I wouldn't recommend Montgomery Inn - At the Boathouse to my worst enemy. We made dinner reservations for my wife's birthday for 7:30. We arrived at 7:20 and told it would be 45 minutes to an hour wait. When I reminded them we had reservations, they stated reservations only puts us ahead of walk-ins and is based on priority. I've never had a reservation for dinner and been told I had to wait up for an hour later for a table. There was a group ahead of us with reservations for their anniversary that had been waiting for an hour already before us and they also had reservations. Absolutely ridiculous! I would highly recommend removing Montgomery Inn from Open Table. I'd give them zero stars for everything, if I could. We left and had dinner somewhere else.
I've rated this a 3 because my expectations were higher. First of all when you make a reservation you aren't really making a reservation you are putting your name on a list. So that didn't start my experience off too well. We were told it would be 30-45 minute wait even with a reservation. We headed upstairs to the bar area and found a dirty table to stand at. There were no chairs and no cocktail waitress serving tables (at least none that came up to us). I had said that we were celebrating my son't birthday but that was never acknowledged nor did we get the table requested. It is very loud in there as the tables are very close together so they can cram as many people in as possible and the waiters and bussers were constantly bumping my husbands chair the entire meal. Apparently they decided to make that the pass through. It was VERY annoying and they really need to space the tables out more if they are going to be walking in between the customers chairs. The mac and cheese was definitely the best thing on the menu.
We made a reservation for 7:00, and on the reservation it asked if we were celebrating. We were, it was our first time here and we were celebrating not our anniversary.
We we arrived,we checked in for our reservation and we were told it’s considered priority seating and there was a 45 minute wait for that. Makes no sense to have the reservation in advance honestly.
Once we were seated, I felt that it was a little crowded. Almost like we were all in a sardine can. Multiple times I thought a certain waitress was going to knock into either my husband or our table. And I was hopeful that we having reservation/priority seating we would have gotten a table with a view at least, that wasn’t the case.
Our waiter was great, he was on top of everything. The food was fantastic. No acknowldegement of the anniversary - didn’t matter we still ordered dessert.
Monday Montgomery Inn commented that someone would be getting in contact with me via email to “make this right”. As of today(Thursday) no one has contacted me
While the night started out well, unfortunately, everything was late getting to our table. The beer and wine list was limited, and with the appetizers late, followed by dinner arriving late, it wasn’t a great experience. On top of that, my order was incorrect (items I didn’t request were a part of the meal, and the items I did request arrived well after my meal). The server, while very nice, did not acklowddge the mistake until after the meal was done (when we think she remembered it was wrong). The food was just ‘okay’, and with the culinary scene exploding in Cincinnati, it will likely be our last time at this Cincinnati staple.
I have been coming to the Boathouse since it opened and to Montgomery Inn in Kenwood and Anderson Beechmont at one point in time! Love the food and ambience.
Taught school at Anderson High School and Evan came out to speak to a Business Management class that I taught one year (many years ago).
We had not been to the Boathouse in years. The last time it was an upscale, white tablecloth dining experience. It has since transformed into a casual, loud and nothing like its former self. We were highly disappointed as our expectations were not met. The service was not the same (our waiter forgot a glass of wine we ordered and only appeared infrequently). We will not return.
The 7:30 “reservation” time I had was more of a suggestion than a hard and fast rule since we finally sat down at our table about 8:45. The manager did take care of us, but 75 minutes after the reservation time is entirely unacceptable. Not to mention the food then took about another hour to get to the table. So a nice quick dinner turned into a 4 hour ordeal.
We’ve been here quite a few times. We ordered the brisket. It was good. The sides are fantastic with this meal, except this time. The Brussels sprouts were extremely salty. I told the server and was brought a new batch, which was great.
The service is very good.
Service was top notch. Food was hot. Almost everything was delicious. Three issues; brisket was a bit dry, Montgomery Inn should leave the pasty grits off the menu, and the Boathouse was way too noisy. Tone it down!! Other than that, we enjoyed our meal. We will return.
I love the scenery and always enjoy being on the river. The food was absolutely delicious!! My 2 lifelong friends came into town to see Wicked for our 50th birthdays so I chose to get reservations for Montgomery Inn Boathouse. It did not disappoint. The waitress made us feel very special.
Service was slow slow slow. Waiter forgot appetizer. When they finally came, cold chips and limp onion straws. Waiter said food would be there in 2-3 minutes and came 15-20 minutes later. Husband's ribs were dried out, my potato not fully baked, and friend's entree salad mediocre and ooverpriced. Food and service used to be better....won't be back. Way too many better alternatives.
Unfortunately, this was not the most pleasant visit. We made priority seating arrangements because we were scheduled for the Music Hall concert at 8:00. We arrived at 5:45 for our 6:00 reservation. However, we didn't get seated until 6:30 and our meal took a longer time than expected. Needless to say, with all the traffic (even only at 1.8 miles away), we just made it in our seats as the lights dimmed for the show. The noise level was extremely loud and I found it hard to talk to my family. The food was great though. I wish we would have been able to enjoy it more.
