Montgomery Inn - At the Boathouse Ratings and Reviews
We hadn't been here in 5 years. We were looking for someplace near our house for a quick good sandwich on a average Wednesday night. So we thought we would give it a try since it had been so long. When we walked in it was very bright. Lots of harsh can lights were on and remained on the whole evening. My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich and I ordered a brisket sandwich. His was ok but nothing to write home about. I proceeded to take the meat out of the bun because who wants a shiny greasy bun? The meat was totally covered in barbeque sauce so each bite was a surprise. And each bite had soft mushy fat in it. After about 5 disgusting bites I gave up. I had the vegetable of the day as my side. It was plain barely steamed mixed veggies of carrots, asparagus and broccoli. The carrots were crunchy, the asparagus was all hard stalk and the broccoli was baearable but also hard and plain. No touch of butter or salt in sight. We ate quickly and left rather hungry. I couldn't wait to get that mushy fat taste out of my mouth! We will not return, (even in 5 years) and won't recommend it.
I was honestly surprised at how good the food was. I was even more surprised at how good the service was! Our waiter (I cannot remember his name) was so attentive considering it was busy. He knew it was our first time there so he explained the menu to us and when he brought out the bread, app, and entree he explained the different sauces to us as well. Service is so important to me when it comes to dining at restaurants so I give the service 5 stars! The food was also good, but nothing spectacular. What mattered was that the ribs weren’t dry (meat fell off the bone) so I was happy about that. Growing up in the south though compared to real southern style bbq, this is just mediocre. But nonetheless still pretty good!
Definitely not what I was expecting. We had reservations for 5 pm but did not get seated until 5:30 pm. I understand it’s just a half hour but I had made the reservations for a reason. Food was ok at best. I have had better BBQ at lesser known establishments.
The quality of food and portion size as compared to 20 years is not the same. I used to live in Cincy during the mid-90's and was always excited about eating at Montgomery Inn. The original ribs tasted like they were purchased from a grocery store then dipped in the barbeque sauce. The pork chop had only enough meat for 4 bites. Extremely disappointed. I came here to celebrate my wedding anniversary based off the memories of the quality of food that was served. This past visit will be the last time I visit or recommend the Boat House.
Our server was busy but yet friendly and paid attention as available. She also offered a new desert dish that was very tasty and new, black raspberry chocolate Ice cream mmmmm. The ribs were tender cooked and delicious. Even though there aren’t special gluten free items my friend was able to order items that were OK. The chocolate volcano was an excellent desert that all six wanted to share. My grandchildren were given attention with a coloring book and crayons and also meals that they loved. Your seasonal pumpkin ice cream was very good and fitting for a tasty fall special. I was here before years ago and brought friends who loved this place. We will return. I also liked availability to reserve on open table.
Reserving a table on "open table" was the best part of this dining experience, what a snap, even on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, the service was less than good. We were a party of 8, drink orders were taken immediately upon sitting down in a hurried, boarderline rude manner. Since we had not even seen the menu yet, we did not order drinks. 30 minutes later a member of our party had to call the waitress over to take our order!! We were a mixed race table with 4 adults and 4 well behaved kids (ages 6-11) was it our race? The fact that we had kids there? A man, (? Host) was walking around like he wasnt sure what he was doing. Overall, the service made this dining experience a bad one!
Ribs underdone, skimpy amount of meat, difficult to get off the bone. Shrimp tasted like it had been in the freezer for several months, not like shrimp. The green beans were very good, cooked to perfection, not soggy or too crisp. Ribs and shrimp served not quite warm enough.
Love this place but don't enjoy their reservation and seating terms. When you make an Open Table reservation you arrive and then are told to wait and it ends up longer wait than if you just walked up. Seating policies actually made our Open Table Reservation worse than having no reservation at all. Then they won't seat you until the entire party is in front of them. Bad business practice as we could have been seated and ordered $50 worth of drinks while waiting for the other two guests. Sorry but the Open Table reservation does not seem to work with their elitist seating policies.
I requested window seating since my 5.5 year old daughter was with us. They accommodated the request. Seating was on time. She enjoyed the kids menu activities and watching the barges. She had chicken fingers. I tasted them and they were great. I only go there for the ribs. I have never eaten anything else off the menu. We like to sit outside, however since we went on 11/24/17 we ate in the main room.
The ribs were great. The service was incredibly rushed. 2 star service at 4 star pricing . This was the third and probably the last time we will experience this type of service. They could do a better job training their staff on the value of letting people really having the time to enjoy the great food they make.
This was our first time at Montgomery Inn Boathouse but it won't be the last. The service we received was exceptional and the food was amazing. We were seated very near the windows and had an incredible view during our meal. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and overall a class act. We drove an hour and a half to get here and it was well worth it. I'll be looking forward to our next visit.
Montgomery Inn at the Boathouse is always a satisfying occasion. Great food, Scenic River View, place for locals as well as tourists to enjoy with 2 levels of seating plus an outdoor area nice during warm weather months. With a Sports Memorabilia theme, it's fun to enjoy. Always offering valet parking at all times, there are plenty of self-parking spots available. Must order the pork or beef ribs...even at lunchtime...and wear your bibs, your shirts will thank you later.
I had seen this all lit up from across the river and had to see what it was. To my surprise it was a very good pick for my birthday. It was romanic yet comfy. Waiter was wonderful and even brought me a dessert with a candle in it. I'm new to area and waiter was very helpful. The pulled pork and riblet was wonderful and ribs were good too. Then went upstairs to balcony to see all the lights from that side. A very good birthday. Thank you!
