We had such a lovely birthday celebration at Monte's. The oysters and pizza were amazing and the staff was welcoming and accommodating. We will absolutely be back!
Anisa was so great! We enjoyed our food so much. Had pasta with duck ragu and truffle oil, followed by the short ribs. Really great place, wasn't crowded at all, which I was surprised because it was so good! Definitely worth going.
Will return.
Cheers!
Poor experience. Was celebrating a Birthday. After waiting what seemed an extensive period of time for our appetizers to arrive, the server brings us our entrees. Apologies were made twice and a complimentary dessert was given. I verbalized my disappointment to the server. This was our first time here and probably the last. Would not recommend. Please consider better training including better communication among the staff
Neat little spot tucked away on Carroll St., just pass the Canal. Excellent pizza, your choice of round or New York style, which is served on a long board. Great Italian dishes, too. Friendly atmosphere, full bar, and my favorite, the martini sampler. Moderately priced, and a bonus parking lot.
Very nice meal. Service was attentive and relaxed. Tiramisu was excellent!
We went to the New York City boat show with friends and then came to the restaurant for a dinner
We arrived quite a bit earlier than our reserved time and were accommodated quickly. Warm and cozy atmosphere, great for our party of 7, celebrating both my sons' birthdays. Fantastic, fresh, oysters on the half shell offered as a special. Enjoyed a delicious arugula and prosciutto pizza followed by fresh pasta dishes. I have been to Montes several times and am never disappointed . Wait staff always friendly and professional.
had dinner with a group of 8 and the service and food were excellent. we ordered pizza, pasta, salad and seafood, and all of it was fantastic.
Food was ok but not for what they are charging. Way to over priced. The service was non attentive. They only accept amex or cash only so not only do you have to pay for an over priced meal you have to give them more money to use there ATM. Plus the part that is the most annoying is that they charge for every soda. I paid over $12 in soda. And my sodas didn't have alcohol.
I haven't eaten at Montes in Brooklyn (one of my favorites) in a while and it surely has changed. Instead of being a hopping full scale restaurant the menu suggested otherwise. The experience sincerely saddened my wife and I because we were expecting more for our Anniversary, and with a very limited selection of entrees, and a huge list of pizza options, we couldn't help but feel like we were in a high end romantic pizza joint. Despite limitations, overall the food was good (e.g., salad & Chicken Parm), and had the expectation been to just eat pizza we would have been fine.
Everything was great except for the noise level, which I found very annoying. Food and service were fine.
Old-school red sauce Italian with plenty of pasta, pizza, meat, and sea food dishes (plus a full bar). Has a garden out back (nice) and a few small tables out front (no so nice unless you like eating on the sidewalk, which I do not). Always reliable. Good food, friendly service, they will customize and just dishes for you, e.g., no meat.
Got completely bait and switched on a bottle of wine. Ordered a bottle of Oregon Pinot, got a swill bottle of Argentinian Pinot instead, told I needed to pay the same price for it. Assumed I'd be charged less because I'm getting a lower quality wine.
If you run a restaurant you should understand the difference in quality in pinot noirs in those regions. I basically just got a "too bad, so sad" response and told to pay up and hit the road. Poorly managed, will not return. Update your wine list if you don't have specific wines available so people know what they are getting.
I wanted to like the restaurant, but got impression ownership/management couldn't care less about my experience. I recently moved to the neighborhood and could have been appeased by any minor gesture that showed they cared, but nothing. First time there, last time there.
I've eaten in a lot of very good Italian restaurants over the years but this was exceptional.
Monte's was a place out of the blue. We were hoping to get brunch, but randomly stumbled upon a random restaurant in the Gowanus. I went there with my girlfriend. We shared a order of baked clams. They were tiny, but the flavor was just amazing. I believe my girlfriend ordered the Braciola di Maile (stuffed pork shoulder) and she felt that it was amazing. I had the amazing Spaghetti Vongole. Had a ton a calamari, mussells and clams. If I am ever starving, I would eat that because I was full the rest of the day.
Love this place. Great food and nice atmosphere.
Make sure you visit their outside area, specially in the summer time. It's pretty comfy.
My boyfriend and I were very happy with everything that we ordered. I was a little discouraged with bad reviews from Yelp but I tired anyway and was not disappointed. It was a very cozy and romantic atmosphere. Authentic Italian cuisine with an interesting history behind it. Definitely a must try.
Nice little restaurant with its own parking in Brooklyn which is a very rare find. Staff was very nice and food was good. This was a great place for a quick married- date night for the weekend.
Food and service terrific.
Our food was good and the patio behind the restaurant was perfect for such a nice day, but we were the only people there and the service was still very slow--I think some they had just opened they were still setting up for the day. We weren't in a rush, though, so we enjoyed our experience overall
Clearly this restaurant must be doing something right if they been in business as long as they have. I found the waitstaff to be knowledgeable about the menu and gave expert service. The quality of the ingredients was excellent. I had the spaghetti with clams a tasty sauce with the appropriate restraint with the olive oil. My wife had the Bucotini with short rib Ragu. Fabulous!!
Amazing pizza, delicious entrees and amazing Nutella calzone. Better share that it's huge!
Everything was amazing, I regret never going there before. The wine, the food and the service was exceptional.
This was our first time here and we were staying nearby, so we decided to try it for brunch. It was a quiet day, but we had salads, pizzas, and dessert. The pizzas were great, as was the salad. The wait staff was attentive and engaged on a not-so-busy afternoon. All in all, an enjoyable experience.
The atmosphere looks funky and fun but...
The restaurant is not that large and they couldn't handle a table of 6 orders without an hour wait for our food. Pasta was gloppy and bland. Simple side of Broccoli was surprisingly awful. Muscles were all fragile and splintering apart. Pizza was large and fun but nothing to write home about.
We loved everything we ordered. Pizza great, Mozzarella and tomatoes very good. Shrimp and veal parmigiana wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
Food and service is awesome!!
We had a very special Valentine's Day dinner at Monte's. We will definitely be back again.
Phenomenal Valentine's Day
Hidden little gem. Short ribs awesome, Nutella pizza so yummy.
Went for an early Valentines Day dinner. Great food. The place was packed and very lovely. Totally worth the price for the quality. Will definitely go back.
We live in S. Florida and every time we visit NYC, we've eaten at Monte's many times over the past few years. Every meal is delicious. Never had anything bad. Their homemade Sangria is excellent. If you're ever in the Park Slope neighborhood, I highly recommend eating at Monte's.
Monte's has been around for over 110 years... My Italian-American family have been regulars since we came off the boat. Recently the restaurant received a makeover like much of the beloved neighborhood. The Italian food is still top notch. It has great elements from Southern and Northern Italy. I consider myself a great judge of Italian food; it's my comfort food... Let me say this, you will leave satisfied. The portions are above average in size and most importantly THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS!!!! Deffinitley check this place out. Whether you are with a group of people or on a romantic date, Monte's is a must try in Brooklyn!
The food and service was good. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
Always great.
Excellent server and well made drinks. Attentive service and special request attended to.
Great food and service always a nice place to eat
Been there with my wife because I really wanted to try their pizza and I it was amazing, way more than I was expecting actually. The Quattro Formaggi is insanely good. I will definitely come back.
The had a lovely seafood special for Mother's Day. And their pasta with duck was fabulous
Did not get chance to between inside dinin. Needed to get heat lamps as its not summer, plus we care dining. Waitress was friendly but overwhelmed.
Will go again, for a second shot
