Monte's Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
My boyfriend and I had both of our parents come into the city from NJ for dinner. We have been to Monte’s in the past and wanted to bring them there, so we made a reservation days in advance. When we arrived for our 7pm reservation, the hostess told us it would be 10-15 minutes which was disappointing considering we had a reservation. 15 minutes later still no table, 25 minutes later, 40 minutes later we finally sit down and the whole night had been brought down by this experience. Not only was everyone hungry and waiting in that cramped space, but both sets of parents needed to be back in NJ that same evening. The service was SO slow and we had to beg the waiter to come over and take our order. When the bill came, nothing had been comped considering the heinous start to the evening. The hostess was nowhere to be found so we had to get our own coats from the coat check room. I can’t trust this place for reservations anymore and I will not be bringing a group here again as it was embarrassing.
Monte's was recommended by a family member. We made reservations and arrived a little early but were welcomed warmly and seated promptly. The atmosphere was inviting and cozy and the food was amazing. It was everything promised and more. Will definitely go back next time we are in NYC.
We had a great meal at Monte’s! The authenic food and vibrant atmosphere added to a fun evening. We’re visiting NYC but felt very welcome in this local joint. Everyone seemed to know each other, and we enjoyed watching the busy staff, and chatting to the locals.
The food itself was comforting Italian pastas which were traditional and delicious. Nothing fancy here, just authentic Italian food in a relaxed atmosphere.
Whenever we visit NYC, we always dine here. The food is amazing. Melts in your mouth and you just feel like you have gone back in time when you enter the restaurant. The staff is so friendly and we always feel welcome and it is always full, so make a reservation. We highly recommend Monte’s if you want a true family owned and absolutely delicious, incredible Italian meal. We give it 5 stars.
Will definitely be back!!! This about the 4th time I have eaten at Monte's. The food is excellent, and you are traeted like a special guest whenever you go there. It is in a very busy shopping/entertainment area. The tables are very close together so not good for a large group, but that's what makes it so cozy.
We have been going to Monte's for several years and have always enjoyed the food, the service, the atmosphere, and the good value. Some of our favorite dishes are: Broiled Salmon, always done to perfection, our guest had Pasta Bolognese and loved it, Chicken Piccata with lemon and caper sauce is always delicious!
Old world Italian; excellent food and service. Great menu with lots of options. It was apparent that a lot of regulars keep coming back; the owner greeted many diners sitting around us. There were six of us - all first timers. Osso Buco was outstanding. Pasta dishes were well prepared and tasty. The wait staff is knowledgeable and can guide you in choosing traditional dishes or some very interesting pasta preparations. Will definitely return.
They treated us right despite our shifting our reservation time 3x including once two hours before dinner. Food was excellent; artichoke and mushroom appetizers noteworthy. Veal Parm done right, pasta was cooked right- all 7 of us enjoyed our meals. And our waiter kept us entertained w a great sense of dry humor. An outstanding time.
Old school traditional Italian delight. Views? Your table in the small crowded dining room is below sidewalk level. But you won’t care; the food is worth it. Service? Very good. Luxurious? Not really. Only complaint in a half dozen visits? The tables simply are not big enough for all that they place before you. You don’t watch people here, you look at the photos on the wall, from a remarkable shot of the owner kissing the Pope’s ring to Al Pacino with the crew. I love this place, a local gem well worth a visit.
Monte's is my go-to in the Village for authentic Italian standards. Their Spaghetti Carbonara is the best I've had outside of Italy, and the eggplant parmesan is tender and flavorful. The chicken and veal dishes are fabulous, and the homemade Italian sausage is out of this world.
Last Saturday night's dinner at Monte's was a first time visit. I was not sure what to expect - but the atmosphere was warm and cosy - a nice old time Italian restaurant ! Although it was kind of tight with a lot of tables for a small space - but lively with people obviously enjoying themselves. We arrived about 5:30 PM before many diners arrived so it was somewhat peaceful. By the time we left, the place was crowded and the sound level high - but not so noisy that we still could have a conversation. The menu was extensive - something for everyone. The food was very good. Overall we had enjoyable dining experience. I would recommend Monte's and would be happy to come back again.
