Excellent food. Staff is fantastic...clearly friendly and seasoned restaurant veterans who know how to make the customer feel welcome in every way, but not obsequious. Real pros. Can't go wrong here.
The way Italian Restaurants used to be. A very pretty place, excellent food and a wide selection of food, and a place where you can have a conversation without being drowned out by all the noise. The staff is excellent and friendly. This was our first visit after a friends recommendation and we were happy we went and will definitely return.
This is the fourth time to have had business meal at Monte's....and it just never disappoints. Great service, excellent food, wonderful staff. The kind of place that just takes care of you and your guests!
Food was good. The service was terrible and organization extremely poor. We has a big party and they didn't reserve our table and sat us an hour later.
We had a very special family get together and birthday, ad we were so well taken care of, Monte's felt like an extension of the warmth of family, and we will always remember that special night! Everyone loved their food, and with a large party, this is not an easy task to accomplish. Our waiter was extremely helpful and attentive, in spite of a very busy night.
This was the perfect choice of a restaurant just before attending a concert at the Blue Note. The atmosphere is authentic old time Italian restaurant. I expected to see Michael Corleone at one of the tables.
The service was impeccable. Out of the way, yet attentive and friendly.
The food was delicious. I told my wife it seemed like somebody's grandma was in the kitchen cooking.
The desserts were amazing...things you don't see at other restaurants. Ours was the best dessert I ever had.
Very traditional Italian menu and atmosphere. The food and wine is reasonably priced and was well prepared. Had the filet of sole oregano, which was delicious! The service was friendly and I would bet most of the waiters (no women) have worked there for 25+ years. No cutting edge cuisine, but if you're looking for a good old-school Italian meal, this is the place.
Nice place, good service and good food.
My husband and I dined at Monte's 30 years ago on our first day. The food is still very good. Loved the antipasti misti, black truffle pasta, osso buco was delicious and the red snapper special was served with black olives, capers and tomato. Truly a family-run, traditional Italian restaurant. We will be back again soon. It is a lively, small dining room but good service. Great tiramisu too!!
Sooooo YUMMY! Happened by this place while doing a web search for "best restaurants in the village NYC" and this was one of the first on the list! We are so glad we gave it try. I had the homemade egg noodles in cream, prosciutto and peas, it was called a nest of some sort. It was delicious!! My friend had pasta marinara and gobbled up every bite! That says a lot for a couple of home chefs! Highly recommend- the crusty bread seals the deal ;)
Wonderful food and service.
Great price point!
Great evening with our group visiting from Washington DC. I was here once before about 15 years ago and thought what a great place to bring friends wanting to see different areas of the city. We had a group seating on the second level and made friends with our table neighbor's visiting from Belgium. Food was out standing and our server Angelo is a gem.
Authentic old school Italian Trattoria.
Terrific chef preparing the best in the Italian cook book.
Cocktails fill a large glass to the top. Terrific wines. Not overpriced.
Really good pasta. Good service. Great evening overall.
Good Friday. No meat. A restaurant we have gone to for years. The waiters can be characters but have a good demeanor.
Place is so old charm NY! Amazing service fun and food was great. Good spot for a group
Had Clams Oregnato. Best I ever had and Veal Pizziola also one of the best I ever had. Small , crowd we, noisy. Perfect. There is a small bar and upstairs dining too. Waiter was great. Fabulous experience . Can’t wait to go back
Great food, great service and an overall fun place!
This was our second visit and we enjoyed it once again. Great Italian food and very friendly, efficient service. The appetizers we tried, portobello balsamico and asparagus parmigiana, were outstanding. The manicotti was the best we’ve ever had. All of our food was so delicious. The atmosphere is very welcoming and cozy. We were visiting from out of town and wish we had a place like this in our hometown. If you want a great authentic Italian meal, don’t miss this gem!
I've been coming here with my family since I was a kid, a true neighborhood staple. I always bring friends here who visit from out of town. But the portions were very small, a lot smaller than I remember. That is not to say that the food wasn't good, it was excellent, but very small.
Great gnocchi with pesto!!
Great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Friendly folks and good food in the heart of Greenwich Village.
So old school. We had eggplant rolitini for starter - so good. We also had chicken milanese (not on menu, but were happy to make), pumpkin ravioli and gnocchi with butter sage sauce - we were so happy. Really good espresso martinis and wine was really reasonable. Service was great. Totally recommend
Delicious dishes-had the stuffed artichoke , fried zucchini, Caesar salad, fettuccini with mushrooms, broccoli rabe stuffed clams, glasses of Pinot noir and Chardonnay. My friend and I split all the dishes. The waiters were all friendly and accommodating to our requests. We were too stuffed for dessert. The place is very traditional looking with a lively upbeat and homey vibe. There was a large table of young Italian friends speaking in Italian. Founded in 1918 it was fun to imagine Greenwich Village in those days and the continuity of serving the community for almost 100 years!
We will be back. That should be enough of a review considering how many restaurants there are in NYC. The food was awesome, service was fantastic and we love the “old school” ambiance. Toby was our waiter and I will be sure to ask for him again.
Great old Italian restaurant from 1918. You can't find many like Monte's around these days. Food was very good and the price was just right.
The food was really good and reasonable prices. The cappuccino was not good as waiter promised me it would be. Tables were tight, but you can overlook that due to good food.
Old school great food and wine. Made a late day reservation on Open Table which confused the hostess - waited 1.5 hours for a table. A good bottle of wine made it not so bad on a Saturday night.
Good place to go before a show
Chef Pietro and his son Peter Mosconi do a great job with making everyone feel like they are "home". We visit Monte's every time we visit NYC (about once a year); it is our go to spot!
The best! Anything you order is fresh and delicious.
Great find. Great food and service very traditonal
Great food and service. Looked like a restaurant out of a movie.
Monte’s has excellent old school Italian food, Italian waiters and a pleasant environment. It’s no wonder that it’s been in business for decades!
The food was fine, not extraordinary. The service was better than average but not off the charts. The restaurant is very crowded and very noisy. The wine list is very nice, but I did order a second glass of wine and it never came. The location is good, near other fun and lively spots and close to all the Village comedy clubs. They do have a lot of servers helping out so there's no danger of overstaying your welcome. I would not return only because there are so many better Italian restaurants in NYC. We were seated upstairs with several large and very loud parties.
Excellent. The BEST Italian food around.
Far too many tables within small space, it felt very claustrophobic, and as we had a table in the main aisle, we constantly had people rushing by us, and at one point drinks were split on us. Food was average, albeit authentic.
We are never disappointed. Service is excellent, matching the food. We are regulars and will continue to be.
Vibrant atmosphere, great service but certainly not over powering. Fantastic food, excellent value for money. Best restaurant we’ve visited this trip. Highly recommended.
Just got back from a vacation in Rome, Italy. Have to say Montes Trattoria was as authentic as our visit to Italy! The food was outstanding! We will be back ASAP!
