Delicious dishes-had the stuffed artichoke , fried zucchini, Caesar salad, fettuccini with mushrooms, broccoli rabe stuffed clams, glasses of Pinot noir and Chardonnay. My friend and I split all the dishes. The waiters were all friendly and accommodating to our requests. We were too stuffed for dessert. The place is very traditional looking with a lively upbeat and homey vibe. There was a large table of young Italian friends speaking in Italian. Founded in 1918 it was fun to imagine Greenwich Village in those days and the continuity of serving the community for almost 100 years!
We will be back. That should be enough of a review considering how many restaurants there are in NYC. The food was awesome, service was fantastic and we love the “old school” ambiance. Toby was our waiter and I will be sure to ask for him again.
Great old Italian restaurant from 1918. You can't find many like Monte's around these days. Food was very good and the price was just right.
The food was really good and reasonable prices. The cappuccino was not good as waiter promised me it would be. Tables were tight, but you can overlook that due to good food.
Old school great food and wine. Made a late day reservation on Open Table which confused the hostess - waited 1.5 hours for a table. A good bottle of wine made it not so bad on a Saturday night.
Good place to go before a show
Chef Pietro and his son Peter Mosconi do a great job with making everyone feel like they are "home". We visit Monte's every time we visit NYC (about once a year); it is our go to spot!
The best! Anything you order is fresh and delicious.
Great find. Great food and service very traditonal
Great food and service. Looked like a restaurant out of a movie.
Monte’s has excellent old school Italian food, Italian waiters and a pleasant environment. It’s no wonder that it’s been in business for decades!
The food was fine, not extraordinary. The service was better than average but not off the charts. The restaurant is very crowded and very noisy. The wine list is very nice, but I did order a second glass of wine and it never came. The location is good, near other fun and lively spots and close to all the Village comedy clubs. They do have a lot of servers helping out so there's no danger of overstaying your welcome. I would not return only because there are so many better Italian restaurants in NYC. We were seated upstairs with several large and very loud parties.
Excellent. The BEST Italian food around.
Far too many tables within small space, it felt very claustrophobic, and as we had a table in the main aisle, we constantly had people rushing by us, and at one point drinks were split on us. Food was average, albeit authentic.
We are never disappointed. Service is excellent, matching the food. We are regulars and will continue to be.
Vibrant atmosphere, great service but certainly not over powering. Fantastic food, excellent value for money. Best restaurant we’ve visited this trip. Highly recommended.
Just got back from a vacation in Rome, Italy. Have to say Montes Trattoria was as authentic as our visit to Italy! The food was outstanding! We will be back ASAP!
Always the best!! This is my favorite Italian restaurant in New York City!
This is a fantastic old school NYC institution. It can be hectic at times but the energy is great and the food excellent. An un-scene which makes it even better. Awesome for a Saturday night get together!
Great meal. They had the whole place singing Happy Birthday. With the food & service made for a wonderful celebration.
A great meal was had by all.... old school Italian food and feel. Highly recommend.
Best Italian dinner we've had in a very, very long time.
We have been going to Monte’s for several years and have never been disappointed. The staff is professional, attentive and friendly. I often have the broiled salmon with vegetables, it is always perfectly prepared. My husband loves the clams casino to start, followed by one of one of the many pasta dishes. All in all a very good night out!
Our reservation was at 8pm. They didn't seat us until 8:35pm. I guess the manager took our order. Never had a waiter, keep having to ask people for water, drinks, etc. After dinner we wanted dessert, no one ever waited on us, so we ask who our waiter was and nobody knew. Ha Ha We ask for the ticket and left. Will not eat there again.
A classic red sauce and mozzarella joint with terrific food and people-watching. Service was painfully slow on the busy Saturday night we visited, but the food was good enough that I'd give it another chance.
Great restaurant overall. Quieter upstairs for conversations. Staff increcrably friendly and attentive. Food great and good value as well.
Loved the waiters, the good old school food (huge menu, reasonable prices) & the authentic NYC vibe. All these years living in NY & it was our first visit. Happy 100th b-day - will definitely return!
I have been going to Monte’s for over 25 years. Every time I go to NYC my family makes a trip into the Village for this amazing food and dining experience. We took friends with us this last time and they loved their experience. Monte’s Trattoria never disappoints. We always feel like we are a member of the family!
Staff and Food were wonderful. Pleasant and quaint. Great date night.
Very loud - couldn’t hear - not an enjoyable dining experience!
We loved it. And we will make it a once a monthly must meet-up. So glad places like this survive in a city that has been overrun with chains.
Please don't change anything.
It's a classic Italian restaurant with amazing pasta. Everything from the waiters to the decor to the food is spot on. One of my favorite spots!
We found this restaurant by accident. We were just walking around and decided to stop in. The restaurant is not fancy, but the food is real authentic Italian. Very pleased with this restaurant and we will be back again. If you like real authentic Italian cooking, like your grandmother's from Italy. This is the place. We read that it has been here for 100 years, and may it be around for another 100 years at least.
My family has been going to this restaurant for decades. Great to get back and reminisce. The food is as delicious as it was years ago. After dinner we sat at the bar and spoke with the chef and his son. A Greenwich Village institution. Molto Bene!
This was always in of my favorites. I hadn’t been in 30 years. SO glad it’s still there. Excellent food, great pricing; exceptional, first class, NYC service. The gentlemen work as a team and don’t miss a beat. Shrimp Monty’s are wonderful!
Classic NY Italian restaurant. Great food and great, old school service: You won't hear "Still workin on that guys?" at Monte's.
Small/cozy, with a few steps down.
Food was great and not too pricey. But the Server did not pay any attention to us after we didn't order wine. He took our order while basically ignoring us and we never saw him again until he brought the check. Looked around and saw him engaging and laughing with other customers, but not with us. Would go back and hopefully get a different server.
We cabbed there from midtown and it was worth the cab fare each way. Great menu and amazing tiramisu for dessert. We had lovely meal.
Best italian so far. Better than little Italy. Priced fairly great friendly service. Chef came to the table. No rushing very comfortable. Close to subway
Great food and service in an old school setting. Six of us were there, every app was delicious and we each had different entrees which everyone loved. Food was fresh and cooked to perfection. I’ve been going there once or twice a year for years and not once have I or anyone I’ve been with been disappointed. Throw in the neighborhood with all it has to offer and it doesn’t get better than Monty’s!
