This vintage Italian restaurant has existed since 1918 and the Mosconi family has continued its rich tradition. We were desperate to find a good restaurant in the Village that was open before 5 p.m. Monte's was it! We had veal and chicken dishes that were excellent. Service was fantastic. Quiet for good conversation. Great atmosphere. If you want an old school restaurant with fantastic value and food, Monte's is it.

We loved everything about this place! Very welcoming and accommodating. The baked clams were so delicious, I wanted to order more! Our entire dinner was wonderful and I’d definitely go back the next time I’m in NYC. Even with hundreds of choices, this is a revisit!!! Family owned and genuine!

Amazing does not properly describe the experience we had at Monte's. From the second Tony welcomed us through the door until he bid us goodnight as we walked up the steps and into the street, Monte's was everything we hoped for. Tony's attentiveness to our needs was superb and the food was stellar. We started with the fried zucchini blossoms which kicked off dinner with a crunchy punch of goodness and split a crispy Caesar that was perfectly dressed. I chose the lasagna and wife selected the Tortelloni Montes. Both dishes were beyond fantastic. The evening was capped with the best tiramisu we have ever had. This was by far the best Italian meal we have had outside of Italy and we shall return.

First time staying in the city and randomly selected this place for dinner based on reviews and how long they have been around. So glad I did. My husband and I feasted on cheese ravioli, meatballs, ceaser salad, and chicken Marsala. We also had espresso martinis and wine that they selected based on what we said we liked. Finally, for dessert the waitress insisted on tiramisu which I normally do not like. She sold me and it was as wonderful as she said it would be. The dinner was absolutely delectable. I highly recommend this for a date or a party of 4.

Our family came for dinner after a long day of sightseeing with 2 teenagers. We wanted to get authentic Italian food in a great neighborhood and this was exactly what we were looking for. It's a bit pricey for the portions but everything was delicious. We had many selections from the menu and everyone loved their choices. This restaurant looks like it opened in the 1960s and hasn't changed at all.

We had a great meal. Party of 8. Amazing waiter. Excellent service. We started with Caesar salad, asparagus, stuffed mushrooms and burrata. All excellent. Highly recommend the stuffed mushrooms! Dinner included lasagna, manicotti, gluten free for one diner and other meat dishes. Wonderful, flavorful old world Italian!! We will definitely return.

A great dining experience. Food was delicious & the staff let us sit & enjoy (even on a busy Saturday night). The panna cotta & baked artichoke were top notch with cannoli & tortellini very good. I’ve been going to Monte’s for over 40 years & this was a stand out experience.

Do not go two days before they close for vacation…Chicken Scarpiello was nothing but chopped up chicken wings with a few small cubes of rubbery white meat..Disgraceful!!!! Port chop with hot cherry peppers ordered medium well, came out rare with a moot point watery tasteless sauce…. We came a long way to one of the old school finest restaurants and got taken over the counter with disgusting food… Extremely disappointed in food….Baked clams were good, gnocchi in Alfredo was watery and tasteless!! Over and out of there…………

This is one of the oldest Italian restaurants in the city and in a great section of the Village near Soho and Washington Square. The server was helpful with recommendations and perfectly attentive despite it being a very busy place. The ambiance was vibrant more than romantic, with lots of people enjoying themselves. Dishes were well-executed with terrific homemade pasta and several items that you are less likely to see in American restaurants. We for instance had the baked artichoke, which was unusual to us and excellent. Highly recommended whether for date night, with family or for business.

Treat yourself during the week to avoid the weekend tourist crowds. Chef Pietro is a treasure, and you can often find him walking around the dining room greeting people, bringing bread right from the oven or suggesting something to eat. The baby artichokes & asparagus parm are incredible. The fresh pasta dishes can't be beat. Top your meal off with their awesome zabaglione - out of this world & the best in NYC.

We took my 90 year old mother back to Monte’s for her birthday dinner and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and welcoming! Everything was delicious and the prices are still reasonable. Highly recommended!

This cute old-time restaurant suffers from a lack of trying. The service from our behemoth of a waiter couldn’t be worse. His attitude toward his job was well characterized by his slovenly appearance with a poorly knotted orange tie and complete lack attention to his tables. Our drinks were empty (usually something that most restaurants want to encourage you to buy more since they are such a profit center), our salads took 45 minutes to get out, the food was marginal. This place has a reputation because it’s been around so long, but it’s really not worth going to at all. Food is average or below, and the service is horrible

Visited NY to see our daughter who recommended Monte's for family dinner. Fantastic vibe good basic Italian food. Excellent service and enjoyable evening . So good we went back fro a second visit. If you are in NY looking for a a basic pretentious meal try this. Noticed complaints that tables too close but all part of the vibe not a problem for us - and thank God they can be we were all moaning about distancing two years ago !!.
