Monterey Bay Fish Grotto - Mt. Washington Ratings and Reviews
Very pleased with our dinner. Our server was excellent. The view is arguably the best in Mt. Washington. Valet service and coat service was a nice addition. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a romantic, fine dining experience with excellent seafood, and an incredible view.
With the prices so high i expected quality food and that is not what i got. Lobster was over cooked and dry. Filet was asked for medium and one side was rare and the other side medium well. Potato side was dry and lacked flavor. The view was amazing but i feel like your paying high prices for the view and not for the food.
Major disappointment since ownership change. Menu has shrunk. Restaurant needs a facelift. Just worn and dated. Food not nearly as good as the previous owners. Extremely overpriced, including cocktails. I have entertained clients for 25 years in the Pittsburgh area. I will be back to this one.
We were here for Valentine's day. My girlfriend absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was great and the food was excellent. Our waitress was extremely helpful and just overall amazing. I would highly recommend. Even dessert, and I'm not a dessert kind of guy.
Valentine's Day dinner was a disappointment. Prosecco was almost flat. Caprese & watermelon salad was very good, grilled oysters were tepid and expensive ($18 for 6 small ones). Crab stuffed lobster tail was tough and not sweet and lobster risotto was watery and not very flavorful. All in all a disappointing $200 dinner.
It's always a lovely experience however this time around it was a very busy night, and all of our courses took forever to arrive. The waitress was very knowledgeable, helpful, and a pleasure to have as a server, but everything took WAY too long and unfortunately it detracted from the overall experience.
Birthday dinner for my fiance brought us to Monterey Bay. It was an incredibly busy night and didn't get seated until 30 minutes past our reservation. The restaurant did comp us an appetizer for our wait, which was very nice and really good. For dinner, I had the swordfish and my fiance had the grouper. Both meals were excellent. The lobster mac is a great side to share, as well as the angel food grilled cheese. We will definitely be back.
If you realize that you are paying for the view and ambiance and that the food is a component of that then the price is somewhat justified. Without the ambiance, the food price and quality would not support a more mundane environment. Menu is somewhat ostentatious and more show then go. Staff was great and helpful.
The food we ordered was really average, especially from the price. My filet, ordered medium, was underdone and really medium rare, almost rare. The waitress did offer to replace, but I'm personally ok with it being under cooked (my wife would have sent it back). The accompanying lobster was a little tough but tasty. However... the manager came over and even though I said I wasn't sending it back or asking for different steak, took my entire meal from the bill, and offered my wife a free dessert (I got a free dessert as it was my birthday). This absolutely floored us, and it told me that they were not happy that I wasn't 100% happy. I plan to go back some time.
The view --- wow. We were there in the evening, and was able to look out over the city all lit up (including Heinz Field) and was spectacular. Great atmosphere.
The last time we were here was before the remodel. Our dinner was amazing then . Well worth the price and still comment it was the best meal ever had. This time was very disappointing. Will not go back. The food is completely different. Totally overpriced for the portion and preparation. I would put it on par with eating at Bahama Breeze . We both had different version of sea bass with potato’s and asparagus. There was nothing special, unique or different to say this was a great meal- especially to the tune of over $150.00. They lost their touch. If you want the view go to the bar the next level down and hang out for drinks.
Were in town from Salt Lake City for a Steelers playoff game. Had a great experience there earlier this fall, and wanted my kids and grandkids to experience it. Were given a great table and were greeted very well by the general manager and the staff. Our server was great, and the food was excellent.
This was a great experience with many options for fish preparation. Service was wonderful. Only downside is the tables near the window are extremely close together (other table had to get up to let us out) and as such it’s noisy. But all in a great experience with a wonderful view.
I've been here a few times and every time it's amazing! They are very accommodating , we were there about 40 minutes early for our reservation and we were still able to be seated with no issue.
My server was Anthony, he was very friendly and informative. He made great recommendations for food! Always impressed !
