I would recommend going to Monterey Bay for the view of course. The food was above average but I would not recommend the oysters with beef tenderloin, there were only three small breaded oysters with tenderloin on top, for $24 I expected more. The Chilean Sea Bass was good but very close to over cooked. Two people enjoyed their lump crab cakes. We had a lovely evening regardless with family and the view is spectacular. The waitstaff was great, I do however feel the food could have been a little better for those prices.
It was my birthday. We got there at 6:45 & were lucky enough to get a table by the windows. Dinner & service were wonderful & we got to see a beautiful sunset over the city. Great night.
No place better in Pittsburgh
Excellent views, outstanding seafood. Pay a visit and you will not regret it.
Wonderful food and service
My wife and I visited for dinner twice last week Tuesday and Saturday. Both were special occasions. Our servicer Angie W. was the best. She was so good on Tuesday we requested her again for Saturday.
If you give rewards to employees then Angie should be at the top of the list.
Russ and Helen Dean
Great views. Wait staff very attentive and accommodating. Portions on the small size but well prepared
Everything was perfect! Great food and great service!!!
Our waitress was awesome. She tops all others. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. The only negative thing I have to say is my dinner came out on a plastic plate, with a restaurant like this you should never give someone plastic.
Our food was cold the view is beautiful. The drinks and service was great . By who likes cold fish?
Outside of the view, this restaurant is way overpriced, and I am a fish lover. I would definitely not go back.
Our waitress was wonderful! The view was breathtaking and the food was a 10! Wonderful experience
But not on a Saturday night. It was loud and crowded to the extreme. I called for a window table with a 7pm reservation and was told fine as we were celebrating my birthday and out anniversay. Got there and told they do not promise window tables on Saturday night. I we wanted we could wait another hour. When finally seated after being crowded in the bar, we were seated at a dark table away from the windows.
Unacceptable. I will say the manager was extremely helpful and we did get a lovely table, secluded at the front window. Most appreciated but at that point extremely frustrated. Andrew was a lovely waiter and they did include complimentary desserts.
Excellent food and service.
The view was exceptional, but the food and service were also top notch. Prices also were high end, everything is a la carte. I would recommend and will go back again.
The food and staff are so amazing. I love this place, every time my family comes to Pittsburgh we go to this restaurant. Love it!
I was a part of a group of 18-20, celebrating Mom's 85th birthday.
From the moment we came through the elevator doors, we were greeted warmly and felt very welcomed. The wait staff, especially Angela, was phenomenal. They allowed us to bring in a cake and sing Happy Birthday. It was a good evening!
We went for my fiancée’s 30th Birthday. The food lived up to the hype! I highly recommend the Chilean sea bass! It was incredible! Definitely on the pricey side though.
Service was timely and efficient. He figured out the pace of our dinner and accommodated us very nicely. Food was very good as we have come to expect!
Great views and great service. Food was solid - some dishes better than others. Overall, really enjoyed our experience.
Pricey but the view is fabulous and makes it seem worth it.
One of the best meals I have had dining in Pittsburgh. The Artic Char with crab was absolutely outstanding. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. An all around wonderful dining experience.
Great service great food! I would recommended this restaurant for anyone traveling downtown Pittsburgh for a quality meal!
They took excellent care of us!!!!
Music in restaurant was to loud.
The food was not up to the level of previous visits and the service was fair to poor. They cannot diminish the view however we have come to expect more from Monterey Bay.
My wife and I had booked a table for my dad’s birthday. We had drinks in the lounge while we waited for the dining area to open. When we were seated upstairs by the window we had a great view. The server (Gretchen) asked for our water preference and we chose one of the two brands of sparkling water. She brought the other brand rather than the one we chose. She then took our food order and we asked for a bottle of wine. The appetizers came out and before we could finish our entrees arrived. After the entree we ordered coffee and dessert. The coffee arrived and it was a full thirty minutes before the dessert arrived. The coffees were empty or cold by that time. They brought my father a candle with his dessert and wrote “Happy Birthday” on the plate but they brought it while I had excused myself from the table. When the bill arrived I saw we were charged 50% more for the bottle of wine than what was listed on the menu. When I asked our server she brought the wine list over and said she thought I was pointing to another bottle. She amended the bill however the whole thing could have been avoided by her asking for clarification when I ordered. Also, our server really talked up the Arctic Char special saying it was the consistency of salmon but a much milder flavor. And the server who delivered the entrees said it was her favorite item on the menu. They both raved about the mild flavor of the fish and great sauce. My father and I both ordered the special and found the fish to taste exactly like salmon and sauce to have a greasy texture. We also ordered the lobster mac and cheese and found the noodles were tough.
Well--We have always enjoyed ourselves at the MBFG, but this visit was extra special. My sister, niece and her husband are all seafood lovers and none of them had ever been here before. The combination platter/appetizer was great as usual. 3 of us tried the arctic char special and it was fantastic. However, EVERYTHING else was great also. Between the appetizers and entrees we had salmon, char, shrimp, scallops, tuna, swordfish, crab, and crab cakes. The artisan salad with the passion fruit dressing is our favorite and never disappoints. The Sauvignon Blanc was superb. Dessert menu is challenging as everything looks good. The angel food grilled cheese is my favorite, but others enjoyed the lemon ice box, and creme brulee. We live 2 hours away and find it very easy to justify the drive.
It was the best night out and dinner we have had in over a year. Mark our server was the best ever and made it the most memorable and romantic experience. Before dinner we had drinks at the bar with breath taking views of the city. The bar tender Lauren was so incredibly amazing at making drinks that we literally went back down to bar after our meal to have more. As a longtime resident of Pittsburgh who gets to eat out a lot and expense it for business, I would say that Monterey Bay is by far my favorite in Pittsburgh PA.
Anniversary dinner. Excellent food. Beautiful view. Sufficiently quiet for conversation. Only complaint was having a chatty waitress. She was polite, but not really paying attention to customers except to stop and chat. Hence we were often waiting.
Great food and view
Disappointing. Used to be my go to place for a great meal with a great view. Now it’s an average at best meal with a great view. Servers are tired and sound pre-programmed. Not pleasant. Not very accommodating. Food has too much sauce and/or breading. And the prices are much higher than before with everything a la carte. Desserts were too sweet. Menu hasn’t changed in a while - same boring appetizers and desserts. Sadly, not the best experience.
Great food, friendly staff, beautiful view of Pittsburgh.
Service and food were fantastic. We really enjoyed our evening.
Our servers Cindy and (I forgot) were excellent and they and John Bellan truly made our large group's experience to be outstanding - all 17 of us loved it and were raving about all night (and Saturday as well)!
Thank you again, and I'll be back!
Food, service and view all excellent. It made for a memorable evening for a retirement dinner.
The only thing I was surprised with is we were not given an itemized bill - just a totaled receipt . Other than that the experience was wonderful. We were here about 5 years ago and was concerned it wouldn’t be the same but it was just as fabulous!!
Prices weren’t as high as I expected. Definitely not an every day restaurant for most people, but definitely do-able as a special occasion restaurant without going completely broke.
Great food and great service!!
Great selection and combinations of fish and seafood, perfectly cooked. The angel food dessert is sublime
