Monterey Bay Fish Grotto - Mt. Washington Ratings and Reviews
This place is great... no longer the Monterey Bay of yesterday. The decor was beautiful and compliments the view of Pittsburgh. Now, the food was excellent. My wife enjoyed the lobster risotto, which pretty much a whole lobster in it! My dish, the crab cakes with scallops was perfect. Nothing but crab in the cake, scallops cooked and seasoned perfectly. We will definitely be going back in the coming months.
Dined her for late Valentine's Day celebration. Despite their being a whiteout most of the meal obstructing the city view, my wife and I had a really great time. Food was excellent as were the cocktails. I would certainly make another trip to dine at this establishment.
Very pleased with our dinner. Our server was excellent. The view is arguably the best in Mt. Washington. Valet service and coat service was a nice addition. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a romantic, fine dining experience with excellent seafood, and an incredible view.
Best crab cakes I have ever had, including ones I have had in Baltimore/DC and North Carolina. Sea bass was perfectly cooked and great suggestions from waiter on wine pairings with the food we ordered. Great spot to take the incline up and walk to as well. You get what you pay for, it is expensive but the quality of food is phenomenal.
Food and atmosphere were excellent. My wife and I had been referred to this restaurant by a friend and it exceeded my expectations right down to the food and the staff. Would highly recommend if your looking for a nice date/evening and dinner in the Pittsburgh area.
With the prices so high i expected quality food and that is not what i got. Lobster was over cooked and dry. Filet was asked for medium and one side was rare and the other side medium well. Potato side was dry and lacked flavor. The view was amazing but i feel like your paying high prices for the view and not for the food.
Major disappointment since ownership change. Menu has shrunk. Restaurant needs a facelift. Just worn and dated. Food not nearly as good as the previous owners. Extremely overpriced, including cocktails. I have entertained clients for 25 years in the Pittsburgh area. I will be back to this one.
We were here for Valentine's day. My girlfriend absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was great and the food was excellent. Our waitress was extremely helpful and just overall amazing. I would highly recommend. Even dessert, and I'm not a dessert kind of guy.
Valentine's Day dinner was a disappointment. Prosecco was almost flat. Caprese & watermelon salad was very good, grilled oysters were tepid and expensive ($18 for 6 small ones). Crab stuffed lobster tail was tough and not sweet and lobster risotto was watery and not very flavorful. All in all a disappointing $200 dinner.
It's always a lovely experience however this time around it was a very busy night, and all of our courses took forever to arrive. The waitress was very knowledgeable, helpful, and a pleasure to have as a server, but everything took WAY too long and unfortunately it detracted from the overall experience.
Birthday dinner for my fiance brought us to Monterey Bay. It was an incredibly busy night and didn't get seated until 30 minutes past our reservation. The restaurant did comp us an appetizer for our wait, which was very nice and really good. For dinner, I had the swordfish and my fiance had the grouper. Both meals were excellent. The lobster mac is a great side to share, as well as the angel food grilled cheese. We will definitely be back.
