They took excellent care of us!!!!
Music in restaurant was to loud.
Well--We have always enjoyed ourselves at the MBFG, but this visit was extra special. My sister, niece and her husband are all seafood lovers and none of them had ever been here before. The combination platter/appetizer was great as usual. 3 of us tried the arctic char special and it was fantastic. However, EVERYTHING else was great also. Between the appetizers and entrees we had salmon, char, shrimp, scallops, tuna, swordfish, crab, and crab cakes. The artisan salad with the passion fruit dressing is our favorite and never disappoints. The Sauvignon Blanc was superb. Dessert menu is challenging as everything looks good. The angel food grilled cheese is my favorite, but others enjoyed the lemon ice box, and creme brulee. We live 2 hours away and find it very easy to justify the drive.
It was the best night out and dinner we have had in over a year. Mark our server was the best ever and made it the most memorable and romantic experience. Before dinner we had drinks at the bar with breath taking views of the city. The bar tender Lauren was so incredibly amazing at making drinks that we literally went back down to bar after our meal to have more. As a longtime resident of Pittsburgh who gets to eat out a lot and expense it for business, I would say that Monterey Bay is by far my favorite in Pittsburgh PA.
Anniversary dinner. Excellent food. Beautiful view. Sufficiently quiet for conversation. Only complaint was having a chatty waitress. She was polite, but not really paying attention to customers except to stop and chat. Hence we were often waiting.
Great food and view
Disappointing. Used to be my go to place for a great meal with a great view. Now it’s an average at best meal with a great view. Servers are tired and sound pre-programmed. Not pleasant. Not very accommodating. Food has too much sauce and/or breading. And the prices are much higher than before with everything a la carte. Desserts were too sweet. Menu hasn’t changed in a while - same boring appetizers and desserts. Sadly, not the best experience.
Great food, friendly staff, beautiful view of Pittsburgh.
Service and food were fantastic. We really enjoyed our evening.
Our servers Cindy and (I forgot) were excellent and they and John Bellan truly made our large group's experience to be outstanding - all 17 of us loved it and were raving about all night (and Saturday as well)!
Thank you again, and I'll be back!
Food, service and view all excellent. It made for a memorable evening for a retirement dinner.
The only thing I was surprised with is we were not given an itemized bill - just a totaled receipt . Other than that the experience was wonderful. We were here about 5 years ago and was concerned it wouldn’t be the same but it was just as fabulous!!
Prices weren’t as high as I expected. Definitely not an every day restaurant for most people, but definitely do-able as a special occasion restaurant without going completely broke.
Great food and great service!!
Great selection and combinations of fish and seafood, perfectly cooked. The angel food dessert is sublime
Blackened Grouper seasoning was overwhelming and thick.
In the large dining room, pretty noisy with music and full house.
Pretty expensive for the quality.
It was outstanding. My husband and I spent our 4 wedding anniversary there and it was a wonderful evening. The staff was very professional, they seated us at a window table just like we requested, we also got free dessert! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a high class dining experience!
This was for my husbands birthday. It was the first time for 3 of the 6 guests and they enjoyed it immensely!! Thank you all so much for the great experience!!
Perfect, my 1st wedding anniversary, .y wife just lovedit, and the meals where fabulous, worth every dime, thank you , Monterey Bay
First night together in Pittsburgh for us. B-Rad did a great job with us tonight! Food was amazing and our dessert (angel food grilled cheese sandwich) was HANDS DOWN the greatest slice of heaven I have ever had. Unbelievable views - great time.
Great spot to celebrate an occasion, had a great meal and looking forward to coming back sometime.
Beautiful views and amazing food.
Ate there while visiting Pittsburgh after a work colleague recommended it and I loved it! The food, service and views were outstanding.
First look at menu I thought oh no what is my 84 year old mother that has never been to such a nice place going to eat. But everything was delicious. Beautiful view. Great service
This is a wonderful venue for service and ambiance. The protein part of the entree is undersized for the price. The sides sizes are oversized even for two guests.
It has been awhile since we have been to Monterey Bay. Honestly, it has been years. We stopped coming because the prices went up and the portion was cut in half. We came this time because we wanted a view of the city and we were not disappointed! The quality of the food was amazing, the taste unbelievable, the portions larger and overall a great experience. We loved the side dishes served family style. You don't mind paying more if you are getting great tasting food with a view and impeccable service. Thank you. We will be back.
You pay for the view. The food is good but not great. Service is good. We paid about $40 for each entree which is a smallish portion with no accompaniment. Everything else is ala carte: soup, salad, vegetable. For $40 I would expect my entree to be outstanding. Did not feel we got the value we paid for. Seems like an expense account place. Would not go back.
Arctic char was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The bisque was also phenomenal.
Brought my sister from Philadelphia to the Monterey Bay for a birthday dinner. Food, service and atmosphere were 5 star.
Food was excellent, service was so-so. We ordered the sampler appetizer and all we got was a crab cake with the waitress stating she had to have the cooks make the rest of the appetizer!
Dirty plates stayed on table for minutes on end and when we were offered to look at dessert menus they finally arrived 15minutes later while our waitress tended to larger parties. Needless to say, we didn’t order dessert and too the check instead, her loss for larger tip!
Friends recommended Monterey Bay for our first time in Pittsburgh. Didn't really know what to expect. Upon arriving it was clear that this was a special experience. The first thing that hits you is the view. It is spectacular. Once we sat down, Brad, our Server warmly greeted us. He was extremely professional and friendly. The food was terrific. Wine selection is very good and the sommelier helped us select the right wine for the three dishes. I highly recommend Monterey Bay Fish Grotto.
Crab cakes were perfect. Mainly crab no filler. Only negative were the speciality drink. Tasted like a glass of oj. Skimpy on the alcohol.
Food was prepared very elegantly. The staff was marvelous, taking very good care of us and our guests.
My husband and I have been going to the Monterey Bay Fish grotto for about 20 years, often to celebrate our birthdays or anniversary. We always have a wonderful experience going there obviously. Food, service, ambience and the view are all great! Oh, and can’t forget the delicious cocktails!
My fiancé and I went for my birthday dinner yesterday evening. This was our first time and oh my goodness the view we had was amazing! We made reservations but had to wait for a window table, we only waited maybe 5 minutes probably less than that, so that wasn’t a problem at all because we got to go see the bar get a drink and they have a lounge area! And our server Mark was wonderful! He explained so much from specials, the menu to drinks, he also recommended this amazing sauce I can’t remember what it is called but it went on our filet and pork chop.... he did all of this explaining with out us asking and that’s how every restaurant should be because some people wouldn’t know to ask! So he is a really good server! I would highly recommend him! Super nice, friendly, helpful and laid back. Our food was delicious also only thing I wish could be a tiny bit better is the menu... not the food on it or not that there is anything wrong with it, just a little bigger menu would of be amazing, to have more choices, but the food was more than great too! Oh and it wasn’t as pricey as I thought it would be so that was also nice, id say it was priced perfectly, cooked perfectly, served perfectly! After our dinner our server Mark asked if I would like a birthday dessert on them, and he also asked if I was allergic to anything so that was also a plus for him! But the dessert was again amazing!! There was a little candle in it for my birthday so I got to make a wish lol but it was sooo yummy!! It was some kind of angle food cake with cheesecake in the middle of it with vanilla ice cream and strawberries and Berry’s and sauce on top with a lot more it was really amazing!! I ate all of it lol plus ate almost all of my dinner, ate the left overs today!! I would highly recommend Monterey Bay, definitely a Great Experience and Beautiful View!! Thank you for having us and we will definitely be back!!
I brought guests into Monterey Bay for a business meal and could not have had a better experience. Blaise and Angie went above and beyond and the service was outstanding. Angie was present but not intrusive to our conversation. We had everything that we needed when we needed it. Thank you so much for everything. My guests were very impressed and It was absolutely perfect.
The food, ambiance and service were good. Everything is a la carte, so not the best value.
The view was beautiful, food was excellent and servers were great!
Well I went in Open Table. Table and view great. But the Deviled Eggs? Really, I should have sent them back: way too much mustard, such that the delicate salmon was swamped and totally disappeared. The oysters — a dozen, six east and another west— great. But your mignonette was truly weird. Rather than red wine vinegar and shallots, it had a load of something sweet in it. Not right! Dessert of Apple Brown Betty best of the eve. The superb!
I would recommend for the gorgeous view, but never for the food, which could be way more better.
