The view was fantastic, the food was outstanding and the service was great. This was our first visit and we were not disappointed. A bit pricey, but overall a good value if you are looking for a special evening. My wife and I each had a beer and I was surprised that it was only $10.75 for the two. I would not have been surprised if the beers were closer to $10 each. Overall a wonderful evening.
The food, the service, the view; all stunning! Try the goat cheese salad and a ‘grilled cheese’ for dessert. Plus, they are all about the fish, which is cooked to perfection! Torrey is so welcoming and accommodating. His efforts really pleased my strict vegetarian friend. Now, she wants to return. The wine list is lovely also.
Food was fabulous... server was great. Will definitely be going back
My meal was excellent. Good service and atmosphere.
The food was fantastic and my girlfriend and I had a blast. Greta was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and had great recommendations on what to order. We will definitely be back and would love to have Greta again if possible we loved her!
Thank you for making our first experience wonderful! 😊
Service was fantastic. We were talked into the crab cakes and glad we were.
Birthday. From the gentleman at the desk to our server, everything was terrific.
Alexis was wonderful and very attentive. The view was amazing at sunset!
I would definitely recommend this place. The crab cakes are wonderful.
From stepping off the elevator upon arrival to getting back on it to depart, it was A Five Star experience! The view is incredible, the service is top notch, the drinks were smooth, and the food was outstanding! Our ever Nick did a great job explaining the specials and any questions we had.
Definitely recommend Monterrey Bay if you are celebrating something special,or just want a great night out!
Fabulous time! Very nice place to spend a romantic evening!
Great experience with family and friends
There is no debating that the view here is gorgeous, and most likely what draws so many people to celebrate their special occasions. The food is good,
Very warm welcome as well as check-ins from the manager. Our waitress was fantastic!
MBFG is one of my two favorite destination restaurants. I am from Northeast Ohio. There is no rival to the food, the service and the PGH city views. I learned this visit that the chef favors a Southern-style cuisine, and it was evident in the Fried Chicken menu item. This is not your run-in-the-mill chicken. It was tender and juicy, and the batter was the lightest I have ever tasted. Absolutely delicious! I suspect I received more than the customary breast and thigh portions--there was plenty to eat. I also think that the prices on the menu may have gone up a little because of the bill's final total. Be prepared accordingly. There were a lot of photos taken during my visit because the view of downtown with the full moon and the colors was breathtaking. Of my three visits, this was the best, and all of them have been spectacular. Great atmosphere and environment to have a wonderful dining experience.
LOVED Monterey Bay. Service second to none, the view incredible, The Rat Pack Tunes playing in the background and of course the food. Oh the food! Lovely an interesting pairings and preparations. This goes down as one of my new favorite spots in Pittsburgh
this restaurant is truly an overall amazing experience. not only the food was great, but the view and staff were extremely pleasant & they also threw in a free dessert to celebrate my anniversary. I am so glad I got the chance to dine here!
Amazing view! Delicious grouper dinner!
Monterey Fish Grotto is one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. From the beautiful cocktail lounge to the stunning views from the dining room. The service is impeccable and the food is delicious. We can’t wait to go back in December!
The entire experience was somethjng we will be talking about for years to come! Thank you so much. Couldn’t recommend this place anymore than I have
Outstanding restaurant! Great food. Exceptional service. Classic skyline view. All make a special evening in Pittsburgh. Treat your special one to a night over the city. You won’t be disappointed.
Awesome view, great service and delicious meal! Highly recommend
First time visiting, for our anniversary. Even though we couldn't get a table by the window, I don't think there is a bad view in the entire place (which is quite large, with several floors). We really liked that there was plenty of space between tables- we hate feeling like you're about to bump elbows with the people next to you! Our server, Mark, was outstanding (we asked how long he had been there; 4 years). We like when our servers have strong opinions about the food and aren't afraid to share them. We started with grilled oysters and the seafood trio; Mark recommended West Coast instead of East Coast oysters, noting that he found the West Coast smaller but more flavorful. They were definitely good. The seafood trio has been written about in many reviews, and lived up to all the positive ones; all I have to add is that swordfish is literally the one fish I don't like, but the bite of swordfish on the seafood skewer was DELICIOUS. I couldn't believe it. For entrees, I really loved the special, a paku paku (Hawaiian white fish) with mango aioli, pickled mango, and avocado puree. I could just eat the mango aioli with a spoon and be happy. My hubs ordered the rockfish in coconut lobster broth, and Mark immediately guided him to try it with the chimichurri instead, as he felt the broth messed up the texture of the fish. Again, another excellent recommendation; it was delicious. We had the caramel pot de creme and bread pudding for dessert. The pot de creme was fantastic, and Mark noted it is a favorite of his. He asked about the bread pudding, and we told him it was a bit dry- needed more custard, and a bourbon sauce. He said it and most other desserts on the menu were new, and it was only the 2nd night for the bread pudding, so he'd be sure to pass on our comments. Overall, a wonderful experience and we are sure to be back (and to ask to sit in Mark's section).
Great way to celebrate a wedding anniversary! Wonderful view of the city!
Food was excellent, service was the best we’ve had at a Pittsburgh restaurant in a while . Manager stopped over twice and was great. Appetizers were great , crab cake is the best around . A perfect night out
Great surroundings and excellent food and service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all who have an inetrest in great food and ambiance.
Dinner was delicious, the service was fantastic and the view was beautiful.
Food and service is always amazing and the view is spectacular! Special mention to the bartender Keith who offered great suggestions and service before dinner!
Try the swordfish, brussel sprouts and grilled cheese dessert!
One of the best meals of our lives! Thank you!!
Spectacular and outstanding!!! Those words describe the food and the service. Only complaint was that the Brussels sprouts were undercooked. Can’t wait to go back! And don’t worry if you don’t get a window seats...there are views from every table
Everything was excellent. Waitress was outstanding! This is one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh!
Great view and great service a bit over priced but worth it for a one in a while thing.
Exquisite food and service
My girlfriend and I came here for her birthday. Midway through the dinner I became ill and both our waitress and the manager did everything within their power to make me feel better so we could stay and enjoy our evening. Their efforts worked and not long after I was feeling better and we were able to stay for and finish our meals. Excellent service, the view was amazing and the ambiance was fantastic.
From the view to the service everything was wonderful.
The food was excellent.
1980’s music and I’m older. I would still expect something that is more upbeat. We felt like we went into the twilight zone. Very disappointed with the food. The Bronzino was covered so you couldn’t taste the actually fish. The size was the smallest I have ever had. The views are amazing but they really need to update their atmosphere and bring up the food quality.
We go to Monterey Bay for special occasions. My birthday was last week, so we went to dinner on Saturday night. Service was great and the view is spectacular. The issue was with the food. For starters, they replaced my absolute favorite dish - hot smoked salmon - with cold smoked salmon. It was the only place in Pittsburgh, as far as I know, to have hot smoked salmon. They changed it to cold smoked salmon, which you can get anywhere, including Costco. The rest of the food was fine, but not to the standard we have had in the past. None of us finished our entrees. I hope this is a temporary thing, or just an off night. We are going back for Light Up Night in November and hope to have a better review.
One of the nicest restaurants I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Great service. Food is presented fast. Everything delicious. Views can’t be matched. We’ll be back!
We had a perfect meal in a beautiful setting on a crystal clear evening in the Burgh. Looking forward to going back on our next trip to PA.
The service and views are always excellent! Favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh!
