All food was spectacular. Cocktails were the same. Sherry (Sherri?), our server, was one of the best we've ever had.
Can't recommend enough.
The food is great and it also gives you a great view of the city from up high.
One of the best meals you can get in Pittsburgh and the view IS the best. This may also likely to be nearer the most expensive meal in the city but the quality and experience match up with the price. They do a nice job with the valet parking at reasonable cost. Chef selections offer nice variety along side the traditional crab cakes and fresh fish. Still feel the overall experience is worth the money.
Truth be told, it was a bit underwhelming. We had a 5:15 PM reservation and the restaurant had plenty of seats but we were seated at a table where my husband was looking at a plain wall. Upon request, we were offered another table of choice which was much nicer. For starters, my meal and side were delivered at nearly room temperature. I prefer my food to be served hot. There was no bread brought to the table until I requested it half way through the meal. My meal was disappointing in flavor. I’ve had better crab cakes and the shrimp was bland. My husband said the salmon was good so my review is based on my meal only. On the positive side, the staff was lovely, the ambiance very nice as well as the presentation. The desserts were delicious and one was complimentary for our anniversary which was a nice surprise. For me, it’s all about the food and despite all the positives, this meal left me questioning whether I would return. At these prices, I expect more flavor. One last note, this restaurant in the past had a sophisticated atmosphere where patrons dressed in somewhat dressy attire. I was disappointed to see people in blue jeans and hoodies. That does not comply with the business casual dress code indicated on the website and tends to diminish the fine dining experience.
Came to celebrate my birthday dinner with my bf who is a vegetarian. I had mentioned about my bf’s dietary restrictions while reserving. Just to make sure we were on the same page, I had called the restaurant. I was told that they will make something vegetarian for my bf.
I come to the restaurant only to be told that there will be no vegetarian appetizer/dessert. And just one vegetarian entree.
To top it all, our server is probably the most rude person I have ever come across. He kept mocking my bf for being a vegetarian. Asking about desserts, he told him he can get fresh berries. On asking about appetizers, he asked my bf to look at my food and be content with it.
In short, never going back again. Not suggesting anyone to go there. Such a bad end to my otherwise happy birthday.
Drink prices were ridiculous but not a surprise. What was a surprise was how salty the mussels were and the fact that I ordered a drink that I'd never tried before, but our server brought the wrong drink, I learned later. No good enough considering the over $225 bill.
We went to Monterey Bay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food and service were excellent, and the dining room and view were lovely.
Very much enjoyed the experience: excellent food and service with a fantastic view! We arrived early and had a cocktail in the cozy bar area and took in the view.
After moving to our table we re-ordered cocktails and moved onto the recommended SheCrab soup. Great start- just a hint of sherry. We both had seafood: I had the salmon-perfect; my date had the Caribbean Halibet-again perfect. Our server was very attentive but not over bearing.
We finished it off with an Expresso Martini and a slice of the Banana Foster cheesecake!
Not to forget: We added the Brussel Sprouts to complement our main courses - a must have!
Wonderful evening with friends and delicious food. Scenery beautifully
And service amazing !
Service was a little slow but it was nice not being hurried through dinner. We were there for about 3 hours though.. Food was very good. The crab cake from the seafood trio appetizer was excellent. I had the red snapper, Mediterranean style, entree and it was really good.
LOVED! Service amazing, atmosphere amazing, and the Swordfish was everything I expected. So good!
It was great and the food was awesome.
Greta was our server and she did a super job of taking care of us. We also appreciated the free desert for our birthdays!
We've been coming to the Monterey Bay for our anniversary for many years . Other than my dinner (hawaiian sunfish) everything was exceptional. It's not that the fish was bad or fishy, it had no flavor and seemed overcooked. Again all other aspects of the experience was wonderful!
Food was decent (best gluten-free crab cakes), service was not good; when ordering the crab cakes, I’d asked for the dinner size (which come with 2 for $38) as my friend and I were each going to have one. The server Sherry asked if we wanted to do the appetizer size instead ($19 each), and so I asked what the difference was and she couldn’t really answer the question (“one is the appetizer and one is the dinner size”), so my friend asked if there was a difference in price and Sherry responded defensively by saying, “I’m not trying to drive your bill up, if that’s what you’re asking.” It was completely uncalled for, tacky and besides the point. We were trying to understand the difference between the two, since they seemed to be priced exactly the same, so we were wanting to understand if there was a size difference or why she would suggest two separate ones in the first place. There was no reason for her to escalate and respond how she did. We were very surprised by her tone and unimpressed with the service for a supposed upscale restaurant.
The view is captivating: service needs major work.
The food was fine, the view beautiful and the service great. But there was a woman walking around with an iPad recording who’s eating when and what ALL OF THE TIME. I wish we could eat w/o being recorded.
One of the best restaurant in Pittsburgh. They used to have better food I feel the decline started in the last 3 years.
This was amazing. Great service. Our waitress was extremely attentive and kind. The view was out of this world. The food was perfect. Great wine selection. Couldn't ask for a better, more romantic end to our trip in Pittsburgh. A must-go!
Very nice place! I will be coming back and recommending people to go. Thank you for such a pleasant experience.
Excellent food and view. Pricey for us - we had 1 glass of wine, (a la carte) 1 shared salad, 2 entries, and 1 vegetable side dish ... the total including tip was $140.
Even though we arrived early for our reservation, we were seated immediately. Our server, Lina, was excellent, friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and more than we could eat. Our table had a terrific view of the Point. (The photo of the city is from our table.) This was our third or fourth time here and have never had an unpleasant experience.
There was a pretty large group of us for a birthday celebration. Our servers were very friendly and did a great job. i don't know if anyone complained about their food but mine was delicious. The only problem was cold pomme frites and they brought me hot ones very quickly.
Outstanding service and wonderful selection of sumptuous menu items!!
This reservation was for my niece and her husband. They had a good time and had nothing but positive things to say. They were especially impressed with all the food. It’s pricey but worth it! And the staff came out and presented them with a note from me saying congratulations on becoming USAF staff sargeant! It was really nice!
My husband surprised me with an evening out & he could not have picked a more perfect place! The environment is instantly soothing & the music selection makes you feel as though you’ve traveled back in time to the best era of music. (In my opinion anyways!) We had a quiet, corner table by the window (& the heater which was a very pleasant surprise since the weather has been brutally cold.) & the view of the city was absolutely breathtaking! Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable, attentive, & helpful & the food was absolutely delicious & everything was cooked to perfection! We just went last night & I’m already looking forward to returning!
Food and views were great. Our Server interrupted our conversation a few times and the martini's did not have enough vodka, especially for the price.
I normally dont write reviews but my Girlfriend and I were extremely surprised at how mediocre and bland our food was.
We both shared the Mac n Cheese - which is massive. She had the Lobster Deux and I ordered the signature crab cake with 4 jumbo sea scallops.
The mac n cheese had a healthy amount of scallops and shrimp. It can easily feed 2-3 people for a side, it's big. Everything was cooked very well, however the flavor just wasnt there. It was extremely bland much like everything we tried.
The Lobster Deux my girlfriend ordered looked great. The lobster claws were excellent, but didnt even come with butter. We asked to get some after receiving our food and wasnt a problem, and not a huge deal.
The lobster/crab cake she received was bland and flavorless. I tried a bite of it, and, surprisingly I can say I've had FAR better at other restaurants at a fraction of the price. Most of the flavor was from the breading on the outside, with the lobster and crab lacking a lot of flavor.
The Signature Crab Cake and 4 Jumbo Sea Scallops was decent. The sea scallops were cooked perfectly and were extremely fresh. The crab cake on the other hand, was again, like most of everything we tried, lacking a lot of flavor.
We would most likely not return to this establishment, since the city offers a ton of restaurants that offer great food for the same or fraction of the price. If the flavor was actually there, I'd definitely return but every dish we tried was bland.
Loved the view and comfortable space. Scenic from every table
Girls night out. Service and food were great
Everything and ever was great. That is why I continue to come back
Great experience and ambiance.
The calamari was absolutely delicious-light & flavorful. Crab cakes are the best we ever have anywhere else, as always. Our server was great ,except she forgot to bring my coffee ever .When she brought our bill , I asked for it again, & she brought it . I thought it was a shame as I had really enjoyed my Birthday celebration until that point. We thought she was brewing a fresh pot when she left dessert without coffee , but she never came back.
Great place. Excellent food and service. We got the best seat in the house with the best views. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Been there several times, always great! This this was during Pittsburgh's restaurant week, great value! Will go again next year for sure (if not sooner) Waitress was excellent--very observant, personal and polite!
Really enjoyed the view and the food. The service was prompt and professional... not overly friendly!
Took my kids for their birthday and they really enjoyed it!
This was our first time dining at the restaurant. The views were amazing and the service impeccable. The She Crab soup was by far the best thing we had. The salad was blah and the entrees were just OK. Neither my husband or I were very impressed with our actual dinners. They serve 2 kinds of crab cakes and the menu does not give you a good explanation of that. I had the "Lobster Deux" - supposed to be chilled crab claws. The claws were actually lukewarm and not chilled and actually not that good. The crab cake was shaped like a hockey puck with a bread coating on the outside - the kind you generally do not see on a fine dining plate. My husband had the scallops and crab cake. His crab cake had very little breading with ample lump crab - the kind I expected as well. He was impressed with the scallops. I would have loved to have written a better review but I should have been a bit more impressed for the $300 we spent.
Great restaurant week experience
My wife and I tried this out to see if it would be a good place to bring her relatives and our grown kids when they are in town. The view is spectacular, the service was excellent and the selection of fish and its quality was quite good. I had oysters on the half shell, which were good, and I had Chilean Sea Bass chimichurri, which was very good. My wife had monkfish, which was overcooked and not very good. Overall, this is a very nice restaurant, especially for its fish selection. However, at prices for the fish entrees mostly in $32 - $42 range a la carte, expectations are very high. With cocktails, a glass of wine and sharing a desert, our check came to nearly $200. We probably won't consider it worth $800 for an extended family of 8, but we will come as a couple for special occasions again.
