Montauk is one of our favorite restaurants. The mussels were amazing and the short ribs were to die for! My husband loved his prawn pasta but I never tried it. Their service is top notch, the waiters talk to you and will make you laugh. You can dress up or down. We will always go back to Montauk, it's never a disappointment.
We went to Montauks on a double date on a snowy night. The ambiance was cozy. The service was wonderful. Three people had the filthy martini and they all loved it.
The short ribs were spectacular , the Alaskan steel head trout was above par, and the lobster tail was superb. Even my salad with apples and nuts was small but delicious. The only thing lacking was the pre dinner bread. It was plain and not even worth the calories.
Our meal was served quickly. We actually wished it had taken a little longer because we were all enjoying ourselves so much!!!
New owner, New menu but very nice selection and quality of food.
The new owner has brought new ideas to the best fish restaurant in Vail. New flavors and combinations. Get the Sand Pie for desert.
Alaskan King crab legs delicious, filet mignon, Caesar salad 👍🏻
Good seafood but not as varied fish choices as I hoped. There were the standard salmon and tuna you can get pretty much anywhere and then only cobia and sole as other fish choices - very limited in my opinion for a seafood restaurant. The other issue was that the noise level was very loud - nothing in particular just generally a very loud dining room. So loud that it was difficult to hold a conversation with the person across the table or hear the waiter. Otherwise the service was very good. The food was good with other seafood options (scallops, mussels, crab legs, oysters, etc.). There were also non-seafood options - chicken and steak. Overall, it's a pretty decent restaurant but the lack of fish options and annoyingly loud environment was a real turnoff for us.
Had the unfortunate experience of being seated next to an obnoxiously loud table of four...not the restaurant’s fault...just a bummer for us (and a number of other patrons also seated nearby)
Montauk has been around for 30 years. We’ve come on and off for many. It had become sort of stale and last fall was sold and reimagined by an earlier owner.
The menu is completely different I suspect it’s more cost/ labor/ food efficiency oriented . I appreciate that are only a few pre-arranged plated dinners.
BUT with the name Montauk, there should be more fish. There was salmon, colbia, shrimp +1 special sole. I’d suggest at least 2 more fish options—-always swordfish and sea bass. Served as plated or plain.
We had a difficult time finding something to
The service was good, sole good, oysters very fresh. Just need to tweet new menu. Please.
Good food AWFUL SERVICE.
Good ingredients but food was just ok
Clean professional lots of fun would go again
We had a really great night here- a fantastic wine list and everyone's meal was excellent. We also had a baby with us and they were so welcoming and friendly
Excelente los mejillones y el cangrejo
Lobster Mac and cheese. Is shell pasta with a tiny amount of lobster. Don’t order.
Two lobster tails were minuscule. Not worth the price. Don’t order.
Prawns with pasta. Was actually Med-large shrimp pasta. Not Prawns!
The only problem : it was too noisy!
The food at Montauk is still fantastic after 30 years even under new ownership. Excellent waitstaff and food.
Service too rushed. Not particularly relaxing or friendly. Great food, nice remodel, nice restaurant. Doesn’t need to “act” like a fast food joint.
Service, noise level, ambiance and FOOD were all stellar! Who would expect to be served such delicious FRESH seafood in Vail, CO?! And the short ribs are fantastic, so my non-fish eating guest was thrilled. I dine at Montauk as often as possible and recommend it highly!
Have gone a number of times over the years when we ski in Vail. Food always top notch. Fresh fish. Prices good for Vail
