Montauk Seafood Grill Ratings and Reviews
We have dined at Montauk on more than 10 occasions, usually during Christmas or fall, but visited for the first time during the summer. It is always one of our favorite evenings, but not this time. Our server was terrible...no other way to describe him, and the food was definetly not the same caliber as before. We'll try again this Christmas and hope for a better experience.
Arrived 10 minutes late for our 8:00 reservation after the Vail Jazz concert and were told "no problem." Although the restaurant was less than 3/4 full it took us 15 minutes to be served our wine...half hour for our order to for our order to be taken. The waiter said they were out of several "fresh" fish, leaving us to wonder if the other selections were frozen. We never found out. After an hour and 15 minutes and NO FOOD we cancelled the order and left. The manager on duty did not even offer to comp us our beverages. The owner called the next day to explain that the restaurant is always slammed after the jazz shows. Well then staff up, if you know that is the case! Our party of four...including two locals...will never go back.
Excellent meal. My wife had the sesame salmon and I the blackened grouper jumbalaya. This was particularly interesting as I have never seen this combo and it was really good. The waiter was very knowledgeable about seafood. Desert was key lime parfait which was also delicious. Ambiance reminded us of a typica seafood place down in Florida. Highly recommend.
Have been going all my life. Surprised by the bad quality of the oysters (sick the next day). The King crab legs meat stuck to the shell... The service was bad including getting a second beer or more butter. The only thing that when well was that our glasses of water were always full. The owner was on site. A bad day for Montauk or is the restaurant loading its attention to detail?
Service was fast
Bread, bisque and field salad were good
Poke was too salty and too much sauce, you couldn't taste the fish
Amber jack was over cooked
Sides were not good
Cocktails were average
We waited a year to come here, but the food was very disappointing
It was nice to hear the music and sit outside on the patio
Montauk is a part of every visit to Vail..We were coming home from a week in Aspen and decided to stay in the mountains one more night to eat there. As always, we were not disappointed. The reservation process is seamless on Open Table. We were greeted cheerfully and seated promptly by a window that opened like double doors onto the patio. We got to dine al fresco and still be inside. Service was impeccable and the food was first rate as always. Oysters from both coasts, prawn cocktail and real honest to goodness Manhattan clam chowder. (no one serves this delicious bowl of red anymore!!) We were allowed to guide to pace of dinner which is something that is sometimes difficult in tourist areas..As usual, we loved the whole experience !
We have been here before several years ago and was hoping for the same experience. Unfortunately that didnt happen. Suppose you could chaulk it up to end of season but the service was spotty at best and the meal was okay but not memorable.
Nate was a very nice waiter. He was very attentive to our needs and took great care of us.
The food was awesome. Very good meal at a good price.
The host/manager was very attentive as well. He boxed up our meal and spent a few minutes with us.
It had been years since we ate there. This experience was much better.
Thank you for a memorable evening.
Food was great and fresh. Oysters were amazing. However, it was very quiet in Vail that night so they decided to close the kitchen early. So unprofessional and not acceptable. We were a party of three, had ordered very expensive drinks and food but were told if we wanted anything else we needed to decide in two minutes. Will never return because they are obviously all about themselves and not about customer service.
Swordfish was raw. Lobster Mac was fair Food was fair at best Waiter couldn't seem to be bothered to wait on us despite the fact it was my birthday. Overpriced and underwhelmed Have been here many times in the past and it was good. Not anymore
