Table was not ready for us when we arrived. Hostess did not get back to us to let us know it would be awhile. She left us standing in very crowded area wondering what was going on. I found her after ten minutes and she said people were still at our table and she couldn’t ask them to leave. She directed us to an area with some chairs where we could wait. About five minutes later, table was ready. Service was prompt and friendly but all 4 of our meals were just average, lacking in flavor. The meal was a disappointment.
Great food and service, as always. Many thanks!!!
You might wonder how I could recommend Montano's after giving it single stars, so let me explain.
I have eaten at Montano's for decades including when it was in an earlier location. I have always trusted it for good food and service, but was completely let down on Saturday.
My wife and I arrived slightly before our reservation's time, but were promptly seated which was the last "prompt" part of our evening. I worked in restaurants years ago, as has my wife, and we both understand about how a busy evening crowd can slow things down. Without dragging things out too much, we got up to leave when, after nearly an hour, our meals finally appeared - or rather I should say mine did, but hers was completely not what she'd ordered and mine wasn't much better than warm and looked the part. She was never even given the non-gluten bread for dipping in herb-infused olive oil that she was promised to have something to enjoy before her meal.
In short, this was about the worst service I've ever had at any restaurant and certainly not what decades as a customer led me to expect from Montano's. I appreciate the manager's presentation of a gift certificate which I may not have the opportunity to use for some months as I'm only rarely in Roanoke on business, but the certificate hardly makes up for a ruined evening.
In fairness, I have looked forward to Montano's when I am in Roanoke for the food and the service. I hope this was only an isolated incident and wouldn't say to others that it's not worth a try. However, if it happens again, regretfully, that will be the last time for me.
It was great! We had a great time with our children for our Anniversary!
Huge selection on menu plus several specials. Something for everyone.
Montano's is our "go-to" restaurant as we know we will always have a good meal. Family-owned for many years.
I got to montanos at least three times a week for lunch and business lunch. And been a few times for dinner with our friends Brad Chase and this night we went out and was not welcomed at stand I had to say hello and tell the lady we were here to eat, also we did not greeted at table for 15 minutes, we ordered a bottle of white wine at that time, we had gotten our appetizer and salads before we were told they didn’t have any chilled and it would be a few more minutiae. We got our dinner and about 15 minutes after dinner, we got our bottle of wine. Now for two people and $130 ticket I felt the service should have been better. Especially because we have never had this issue during busy lunch times. We were not offered a different wine or a credit to say thank you for waiting until after you had your entrée before getting your bottle of wine.
Can be hit or miss. Tonight was a miss.
The wine which was recommended was nice, but not worth $30 a bottle! The charcuterie board was delicious, & we love the house dressing. My shrimp etouffee was disappointing -- tons of rice, not enough sauce or shrimp. Didn't really have much flavor.
2 crying and screaming children at a close table was very disturbing. We understand children in restaurants but no one at that table seemed concerned about the noise created by these two.
While I frequent Montano's for business lunches, I don't go so often for dinner. Celebrating my wife's birthday, I made reservations without a hitch. The service was perfect, the food (I had the ribs and my wife had the petit filet) was excellent. The ribs had just the right amount of barbecue sauce and were fall-off-the-bone tender. My wife's filet was cooked just right and she seemed to enjoy it immensely. A good experience all around.
Thank you for always providing a great dining experience!
We love this restaurant. We are in Roanoke a couple of times a month, always come here. Solid value. Food and Service are always good!
Great service, great food and a great evening, as always.
Montano's has been our favorite restaurant for years. Always a good experience.
Excellent food with great service. Has never disappointed.
The food is excellent and the service is even better. Everyone has always been pleasant and efficient! They make you feel important and welcome. Summer has consistently given us friendly and prompt service. More recently, Zach waited on us a few times and he is also a joy. I think the Brazilian dishes, salads and the daily specials are the best way to go.
Donna is always just perfect. She is attentive, but let's never makes us feel rushed. The food is always delicious.
Outstanding food options and quality esp with vast variety of international dishes. Our table was served dishes from: Japan Italy, Portugal, Brazil and China along with some Creole fish dishes...Yummy!
Has been a favorite for years. The owners and staff always cordial and helpful. And the food is quite good.
BUT I now find the noise level too loud to bear. Too bad it can’t be fixed.
Most might say a restaurant in a strip mall is not going to be "all that" but our Valentine meal here was rather nice. the food was great. the server was wonderful and the deserts amassing. The entire night's meal was wonderful and came out fast considering the holiday.
Will come again.
It was Valentines Day. Despite a huge crowd the service and food were great
We eat here frequently. We like the ambiance. Service is always good. We have a few dishes we particularly like. We do not like all their choices. The salads are good and pasta dishes. It can get very noisy.
Enjoyed a nice Valentine dinner. The service was excellent - even on such a busy night. They limit you to a 90 min dinner, but with no issues, that’s plenty of time for four courses.
We have always liked Montano’s and decide to go there with friends for our anniversary and Valentine ‘s Day. We were told about the one and half service time wish we had been told this when made reservation. Waitress took order and right away our salads came out. Maybe 3 minutes later our dinner came no place to put salads which we had just started. The table was very small for salads, dinner plates ,wine glasses ,water glasses and plates for oil. From the time we sat down till the waitress brought the bill 45 minutes had passed could not enjoy meal or conversation with friends. Food was good ...steak was little dry and veggies were not hot. Not please with this dining experience.
The waitress was excellent and right on top of things. Very attentive. The order was taken quickly she refilled our glasses and checked on us numerous times. The food came out quickly and she even asked if we wanted her to bring the toddlers' food out first (which we did!). Food was excellent. The only thing I was disappointed in was our table was crammed in a corner with hardly any room against the wall to pull the chairs out, plus there was too much extra "stuff" on the tables, i.e., flowers, mason jars, etc., for toddlers to play with. We asked the waitress to take all of that away. I should have stated that we had 2 toddlers and an infant with us; perhaps we would have been seated at a better angled table with a little more "wiggle" room; but that was my fault I didn't state that on the reservation form. Overall a good experience with the exception of the crammed table.
Excellent, unfortunately their seems to be a disconnect with the Opentable reservation system as the reservation was not on their books. We had called to change the number in our party and found they did not have the reservation. We were told this was not uncommon and we should call instead. I’m glad we called. We tried to change the number of our party through Opentable and were unable to do so.
I took my friend for her birthday dinner. The meal was delicious and the service excellent. I can always count on Montano's.
Unique and tasty food matched with great service.
We were taking some friends to dinner and chose Montanos over other options for two reasons....creme brûlée and great wine selections. Unfortunately we drove an hour to find that there was not a single bottle of moscato in the place and they were out of the second option..a sweet reisling. After eating our meal, which was delicious as always, we ordered dessert only to be told they were out of creme brûlée. Very disappointing to drive such a distance and not enjoy what we drove there for.
Great! Crab cakes were on point as usual and I had the twisted surf n turf that was spectacular!
Montanos has the best selection of food in Roanoke, and the meals we've ordered have always been delicious. We were seated promptly, and our server was excellent. The food came out promptly although the restaurant was busy. We had wine, various entrees and desserts. Montanos has the best dessert menu in town, and everything we ordered was great. There were only two real complaints. The tables at the rear of the restaurant were packed so closely together that our guest kept getting his chair bumped everything someone walked by and it happened a lot. The staff kept pushing tables together to accommodate larger groups and there just wasn't enough room. Second, while we were finishing our dessert and wine, the hostess came by and put a reserved sign in the middle of our table for the next party which was rude and seemed to be trying to force us out. My friend commented "well, I guess we're getting kicked out." She could have waited until we got up because the sign she put on the table indicated the next party's reservation wasn't for another 45 minutes. Anyway, that is a small issue. Overall, I have very positive things to say about this restaurant. I love coming to Montanos.
In spite of our specific request to be seated in the rear dining room as a part of our reservation, the host hustled us off to the bar, where it was very noisy and not the most pleasant dinner environment.
Montano’s is one of my favorite restaurants in Roanoke. The service is always outstanding, the selections rival the menu at a Chinese restaurant and the food is always excellent. We had a nice lunch - soup and salad for me, Reuben sandwich for her.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Found a great new to is wine. Need to go more often!
We loved everything we ordered! We will be back! It’s our family’s new favorite?
Oysters Rockafeller..smothered in cream cheese? Nasty, just plain nasty
However, the fries on my husband's plate were excellent.
Thanks, again, to Chris for GREAT SERVICE. Yep, it was worth shouting about.
We were seated within minutes of our reservation time. Staff are friendly and efficient. They have a very nice wine list. There are many offerings and the prices are very good. We had a lovely bottle from their Interesting Whites list. Food was average. The bread in the bread basket was dried out. It is served with a nice olive oil dipping sauce. I had a shrimp and veal dish that was good but the sautéed vegetables had a musty taste to them. My dining partner had a Brazilian stew with mixed meats and sausages and he liked it. I’d try them again but probably for a more casual entree like one of their subs or sandwiches.
Consistently great food over a number of years. Have favorites we enjoy as well as sampling specials offerings. Had a great server who made helpful wine and food recommendations.
