Montano's - Roanoke

Baked locally here in Roanoke; it's light and full of coconut flavor! A real slice of heaven for the serious coconut cake lover
Giant Club Sandwich
Shaved ham, turkey breast and Swiss cheese piled on three decks of toasted bread with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise
Pizza & Salad
Hand-made with cured tomatoes, artichoke hearts, caramelized shallots and lots of mozzarella cheese. The ultimate pizza experience
Excellent as usual, very busy night but Everything running well. Fried green tomatoes were Devine.
Everything about Montano’s is outstanding. The food, the service, the value.
Too noisy, the food and service were very good. The coffee was terrible
Made reservations through Open Table. Informed the host when we got there and was informed that she needed to clean off tables. While we waited I overheard her complaining to another server that this one table had been there for 2 1/2 hours and they needed to leave. It was a large group of about 8 to 10 people who are all drinking obviously they finished dinner but they were still staying and drinking so spending money in the restaurant. A few minutes later two people walked in and they did not have a reservation and they were immediately sat. So I said something to the hostess and she said that they told her that they were me. Which was a lie because I was standing right there and they did not say that. But I wasn’t going to argue, not really worth it. Our server was fine, very busy but we expect that now with restaurants being short staffed. Our food was great! We have the sirloin and the Italian sub. Salads and bread were fresh. The only other concerning thing, was that they have a small table set up behind the host stand as kind of a server station. So the servers and or the hostesses can grab clean silverware and other items they may need for the table in a hurry. However a younger hostess sat down and was rolling silverware while eating a jar of cherries that the bartender brought to her. She was eating them with her fingers while rolling clean silverware. She also dropped a fork on the floor and placed it back into the silverware bin. I just feel like Montanos has reached a point of being a nicer casual restaurant, with a great menu and lots to offer. Having a more laid back, casual staff, is probably not a good idea.
We haven’t been to Montana’s in over two years. Again, this visit did not disappoint. We were seated promptly a few minutes before our reservation time. We were greeted by our friendly server. He took good care of us, checking back multiple times to see if we needed anything. I ordered their shrimp and grits, and my husband had their seafood paella. Both meals were delicious! The meals came with a nice side salad, and their delicious bread and dipping oil. I had forgotten how good that is! I took a piece of their lemon cake to enjoy later. Overall, it was a very nice evening in Roanoke.
Excellent meal! And the variety is amazing. If anything, my only problem was trying to figure out exactly what I wanted...
Montanos is a regular go to. Great menu & service.
Birthday and Christmas lunch with friends was the occasion. It was super busy with many celebrating the holidays. Despite the business, our service was outstanding and the food was delicious! Our waitress had the best personality and was very attentive. We always enjoy the good food that Montano’s is known for! Thank you!
Soup wasn’t good as usual. Salmon was dry.
The food was fantastic! Our server was awesome and the bartender prepared excellent drinks to pair with our food. We will be back!
Our waiter was spectacular: knowledgeable but not arrogant; very friendly and personable. I would highly recommend the Scampi Filipe.
We requested a table by the window, but apparently it was taken. The person that seated us wanted to seat us in the middle of he room, but my husband told her that we wanted to sit on the side. She didn’t seem to know we had reservations because she said those seats were for people with reservations….We were able to sit on the side, but disappointed that we had to have a conversation about it…
Food was bad everything was cold. None of our food had flavor.
Probably one of the best Steaks in Roanoke. Good wine selection. Although very busy, the service was spot on. Live jazz on Saturday evenings. I would highly recommend reservations several days in advance.
Great food as always actually. Restaurant was slammed on this Friday night during the Christmas Holiday. Even with a reservation we were seated late. Understandable. Best restaurant in Roanoke.
We had a reservation but had to wait 20 minutes for the worst table in the restaurant. Tools 15 more to get a glass of wine. Salads were haphazard, one just lettuce one had a couple of carrot slices, one had a cherry tomato. Served with dressing from plastic cups bread was awful. Each dinner had a problem. Steak too rare, pasta like mush. Expensive too. So loud we had to keep repeating ourselves. Like being in a large diner but not as good.
Was seated promptly and waited on very quickly by our very knowledgeable server, all were very pleased with our food
Service was really good; very friendly wait staff. Food was average, unfortunately.
Great food and great service. Thank you for providing an enjoyable dining experience!
Great food, great service!
Our waitress was fantastic and the food was delicious! We had a large party the day before Thanksgiving and had a wonderful experience. Thank you!
Short wait. Great service (one fish dish undercooked). And the place was warm!!!
Our server Joe couldn’t have been more attentive and helpful. Young man who seated us cheerfully and promptly accommodated our need to increase the size of our party.
Montano’s has always been one of my absolute favorite places in Roanoke. I moved away 6 years ago but when I come to town, I always eat at least one meal there. However, last night’s meal was a disappointment, to say the least. Our waitress was great but the food was not. The menu has been severely condensed but she said they could still make one of my favorite dishes (Diver Scallops) that no longer appears on the menu. When it came, the sauce was not even close to the same & the meal was pretty bland. My friend ordered the Chicken Corleone and she said hers was bland as well so she added salt. Apparently they no longer use Hollywood’s for many of their desserts but we didn’t realize how different they were until another friend ordered the carrot cake (her favorite there) and she said it was not good at all. I believe their wine list needs to be updated because the wine I ordered listed it at $10 a glass but when I got my bill, I was charged $11 a glass. I paid the bill without raising the issue (even though that particular wine is $13 max for an entire bottle in the grocery store). I was so sad that one of my all time favorite places was such a disappointment. I did make sure to tip our server well because she did an excellent job and it was not her fault that the food wasn’t what it used to be. I will try to give them another shot when I make it back to Roanoke again so I hope it’s much better next time.
Place was slammed on a Wednesday night. Steak was $37 and I’ve had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse for half the price. Fettuccini tasted store bought.
Always great food and tons of fantastic options.
What a nice place to show off Roanoke to out-of -guests.
Great food and service! We will be back.
First time in a while. Noticed new menu, new prices and ABOVE ALL SMALLER PORTIONS.
Place was busy and very, very noisy, the bar area was so loud we couldn’t hear ourselves talk. We had reservations and requested a both or a 4 top table. Neither was honored Our reservations were early, 6:30 on a Weds.
The portions were skimpy. We had to ask for Parmesan cheese which should have been offered and had to do this because the food was not delivered by our server. Food was on the cool side.
Calms with linguine was very bland, virtually tasteless. The scallops were about the size of a quarter, all 5 of them.
I wanted to love the place. Service and ambiance were excellent. The food was OK but not extremely flavorful. I was expecting more.
The menu is very broad, almost overwhelming. Our reservation was quickly honored. The service was very good and the food was excellent. Highly recommended.
Pork chop this time around was dry but, we love Montano's.
Got take to our table immediately. The food was great! The waitress was very attentive in spite of being very busy.
Jared, our server, was excellent! He was knowledgeable about the menu, and made suggestions that were excellent. The food was delicious, and there was plenty!
Steak came and was not edible. Meal was refunded but I believe they knew it when they sent it out!!
Great food and great service. Love the familiar faces! Thank you!
Fantastic place, not to be missed! It’s like stopping by your aunt’s house, that happens to be an amazing cook, for a delicious meal! The menu is one winner after another and yes (!) the carrot cake is the best I have ever had. On the way out their desserts (including the amazing ‘Marry Me ‘ cookies), are available for take out. Do not miss this place, it’s a Roanoke institution!
Our waitress was great and the Brazilian dishes were wonderful. The kids meals were probably the best I’ve seen. The beer selection is awesome!
On time, server very good. Potato Feta soup was outstanding. My friend's oysters were not bad, neither was my chicken Marsala - but both entrees could best be described as very ordinary - not at all what I expected from Montano's. The bread tasted a bit more stale than crusty Italian.
The ambiance was great - quiet, clean, and so on ... the gnats were distracting, but other than that, ambiance was pleasant.
I will return when the weather is cooler, but will likely only have the SUPERB potato Feta soup with a fresh salad (The salad was quite fresh).
I will recommend Montano's as a great place for atmosphere .. and the Potato Feta soup and the fresh salad.
Kelly was a great server. So are Chip and Donna.
