I'll give this restaurant a negative star if I can...
asked the waiter for a paper napkin...never came, had to ask twice
ordered a second drink...never came...had to ask again after 15 minutes
I ordered Grilled Pork Chop...that dish does not come with any carbs...it's a salty dish that should traditionally come with either rice or noodles...i ordered a side order of noodle (rice vermicelli)...they brought out a few bites of noodles and I had to order a second portion b/c it was so small...then the bill came out...
YOU CHARGED ME $3 for a few strands of noodles??!!! a TOTAL of $6...
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Pathetic attempt to overcharge your customer(s)??!! Why, because you're in BELLEVUE?
Whatever it is...the charges were unacceptable...it's not the $6, it's the principle...a salty meal without carbs should come with either rice or noodles for $30.
and worst, the SERVER did not informed me that it will be a $3 charge for a few strands of noodles! I would have not ordered!

Future customers, please be aware...
I was seated at the bar when i booked a 4 seat table, right by the door, on a very cold night.
The waiter was aloof and not attentive at all. The food took a while to come to the table. I had a wet napkin on my plate. the table next to me dropped a glass of red wine all over me..... no one offered to help clean where it spilt all over my seat. When they did come, they cleaned the glass, but not fully. My clothes and boots were covered in red wine. Neither the restaurant or the women who spilt it cared........The food is great and I like the ambiance, but I was so disappointed in everything else. Really shocking customer service.
The service misses the mark at the Bellevue location, I've been to this location twice and was disappointed with the service both times. Both times the drink order was mixed up. The last time I was there, we were given a table for 2 because our 3rd person was running 15 minutes late. The hostess said "since our third wasn't here, she can sit us at a 2 seat table and then move us. There were plenty of table open when we arrived at 6:30 and there were still plenty of tables open when we left at 9:30.
I recommend getting the luc loc oxtails , tender with great flavor.
We enjoyed our meal, the food was fabulous....hot, fresh and bursting with flavors. We look forward to going again! A neighborhood gem indeed! The restaurant is warm, inviting and classy. Our server was friendly and quick with his service. We'll definitely be back.
mushroom soup was fantastic! coconut drinks were a pleasant treat. spring rolls are good as always. we sat in the bar, which we love. the waiter had a spirit of helping as little as he possibly could.
Went with a friend for Seattle Restaurant Week. Fast & attentive service, varied selection of interesting & delicious cocktails, and outstanding pork belly.
It's time to ignore the construction and head to Monsoon, on Main Street in "Old" Bellevue. There's free parking around the corner and the food is delicious. My husband and I randomly found ourselves there for Happy Hour a couple of weeks ago, and I was really glad we did. Amazingly reasonable prices for large portions, and my margarita was great. A few days later I had lunch there with a friend, and we both raved about the meal. Ingredients are super fresh, the flavors are flawless and the prices extremely reasonable. For lunch dessert, we shared the creme caramel and it was an A+. Our server was attentive and pleasant, and the food arrived quickly. Great for business or pleasure. Highly recommended.
We had a positive experience dining at the Seattle Monsoon years ago and thought we would try the one in Bellevue. Overall the food was mediocre. The crispy imperial rolls were just OK, the bok choy with lobster mushrooms struck us as bland, the lemon grass prawns were OK and the whole branzino was dry. It was our anniversary and I was looking forward to a memorable meal. There are much better places to go in the International District for tasty Vietnamese cuisine. This place has lovely decor, however the food falls short.
Hadn't been for a while but still as good as ever. Never disappoints! Excellent food. Excellent service and wait staff!
We had a wonderful experience, great food and service and elegant ambiance. We'll be back. One small problem: apparently there was msg in the food, probably in the eggplant dish? (which was my favorite). I could not sleep at all after eating there. I am very sensitive to msg.
Good food and a great server. Noise level acceptable, easy parking. I would definitely go back
Great location and food was better than most in Bellevue
Five of us had appetizers, drinks and dinner. We shared three appetizers, ordered five different entrees, had five different drinks and shared two different desserts. Each was fabulous. Interesting ingredients and textures.
Food, banana cake, and drinks were excellent, and service was great. Walked a couple blocks from parking due to construction in the area. Nice portion sizes on lunch menu.
Food great as always. Service spot on. Made reservation two weeks in advance via open table and surprised they seated us in bar vs dinning room. Bar too loud for one of our guested that has hearing aid. Will call in advance next time.
I've been to Monsoon several times. The food is consistently delicious. Our server was great. When I made the reservation for our last dinner, I made a note in Open Table that we were celebrating a birthday. With no further prompting from me when we arrived, our server brought out a delicious birthday dessert with a candle. Thanks Monsoon, for the complimentary birthday dessert! My partner was surprised and delighted. We had a great time.
we order the duck appetizer, fish in clay-pot and pork shoulder in clay-pot. All dishes came out very sweet, almost too sweet. The clay-pot dish was very very hot. Almost burn my mouth. Be careful.
This was my first time at Monsoon East. I've been wanting to go for a while. We had the fried spring rolls, which were quite delicious and the outside of the roll texture was very different from other places I've had fried spring rolls (in a good way).
I had the Lemongrass Tofu and my husband had the soft noodles. Both were quite delicious and well prepared. I will definitely visit Monsoon East again.
this is a restaurant in bellevue that simply does not disappoint. the food is prepared like magic. we had brunch recently. both offerings were superb. it was my wife's birthday. the ambient is very classy so monsson was a great choice of venue for this occasion. the table service shined. you might ask for our waiter, named Jay. and ask him to smile. his smile lit up the room. excellent on all counts.
My only disappointment was the chicken in the food. All other items were cooked perfectly. I had the BBQ Pork dim sum and drunken chicken, which were both incredibly dry. Kind of like what you would get at Safeway. The breading on the chicken, pork dim sum and shrimp dim sum were cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful!
Used their happy hour for a mom's night out. The food was very good and reasonable. The server was minimally friendly and as soon as we were almost done eating, it was clear that they didn't want us to stay and occupy the table so we were hurried to leave.
Very under whelming.. Stuffed at a small table and the server just continued to drop plates and go. We needed to stack plates on top of each other and combine dishes just so we could eat.
Not with the $100 bucks spent in 45 min. Food was ok, had better off a food truck.
After many excellent meals at the Seattle Monsoon, it was very disappointing to visit this sister restaurant. Do they even use the same recipes? My husband has enjoyed several great lunches here, but our dinner was really bad: clay pot fish was mushy; soft egg noodles were brown and slimy; ahi rolls had very little fish in them. The only dish up to their regular standards was their spare ribs. Wine list is still good, and service was friendly, but slow. We won't spend our money here again, at least for dinner.
food, service and ambiance were all wonderful. Kale Salad was surprisingly delicious and yes, i like Kale to start with. Black Cod main course was well prepared and well flavored. I'll be back. Oh. Parking is difficult.
Food was very tasty, but poor service will not make me return. Not greeted for 10 minted after seated. Had to get her attention several times. No silverware when food was served.
We've eaten at Monsoon East many times, and enjoyed our experience every time. The catfish claypot absolutely is a must-have, one of their most (if THE most) popular items. For Restaurant Week, we had the Imperial Rolls, Cabbage Salad, Braised Pork Shoulder, and lychee ice cream, and (of course) the catfish. How can one go wrong? Wonderful.
Went for Restaurant Week with a friend, wasn't impressed with the standard of food. Chicken was chewy and curry noodle was overpowering with the curry powder smell..
Dined on 3/27/15 to celebrate a birthday. We had to wait about five minutes to be seated for our rez, for which we arrived on time. Seated in the very back room which had the same decor as main dining area, but was much quieter (and pleasant). Food, as always, was top notch. Their imperial rolls are the best in town, and their choices for the 3 for 33 promotion were varied and worthwhile. Would certainly return again. Our go to place for a nicer Asian/Vietnamese restaurant.
Was on Monsoon first time and was little skeptical . But absolutely love it now...... Great food , normal size portions, very light. Great service, convenient parking, kid- friendly. Thank you
My wife and I had a nice Friday night dinner at Monsoon East while on a visit to Seattle. We started with the spare ribs and had woked lamb and claypot catfish with brown rice for our mains. We always get the catfish and enjoy it (especially the onions at the bottom). The lamb was okay but didn't have the same depth of flavor, so we likely won't have it again. My wife had the banana cake with coconut sauce for dessert (I was too full for dessert), she loved it (as she always does). This was quite a bit of food for two and we could have had less. The ribs are generous with six ribs which is quite huge for a starter for two We could have taken food home and had a nice lunch for one but were staying in a hotel, so no opportunity.
Everything was fine as my expaction. My friends liked this restaurant. Parking lots are hebind the restaurant. The food is modern.
We went for dinner, but decided to sit in the bar area during happy hour. The food was great. We loved the bok choy with mushrooms the sauce was very flavorful. The curry over the claypot mussels was delicious; however, I think my favorite was the claypot catfish. The mixture of catfish with the bourbon sauce, onions, and jalapeños was perfect. Oh and try a White Lion...it's like a spicy margarita. This was my first time trying a drink with a chili pepper and I loved it. The aftertaste has a little kick. Loved it and the restaurant.
I made reservation for special "Dine around Seattle" for Lunch $18, it was a special promotion event since March 1! What a pity! This restaurant was not well-prepared well! They said not available for today lunch! I suggest Monsoon East should prepare well in advance!
Could not have been better! I would write more if I were not typing on my phone.
It is always a problem what NOT to order on any given visit since so many things are wonderful. I can never leave without the Claypot Catfish, and the Eggplant with coconut milk is not far behind. I am a huge fan of most appetizers and this visit I regretfully did not order the oysters due to selecting so many other dishes. Go with friends so you can share the bounty and try lots of things.
Although the seats we were given felt like we were in the middle of the ocean, not a big fan of middle seating, the place was overall great! The yellow curry soup with crab I had was absolutely delicious! They left no empty spaces in the dish and every bite left you wanting more. Also, the lamb chops was one of the best dishes was we were ever served. It was cooked to perfection and every bite was divine!
The food here is pretty good. We have been here a few times and most of the dishes we ordered were pretty good, though not always what was expected.
The service has been poor to just awful. This time the waiter kept telling us what he would order after I ordered. I did not ask for suggestions. Also had an offensive haughty attitude. I thought it was rude and condescending. .
He forgot to bring us several dishes but remember to put it on the bill. Some of the food we brought home was not ours.
Food was pretty good but every thing took too long. Waited too long to be seated, waited too long for menu, waited to long for drinks, waited too long for food, waited too long for bill.
It's rare that we have the opportunity to dine out on Valentine's Day-we were pleased to be able to do so and that we were able to find an available reservation at Monsoon East. We've eaten both at this restaurant and it's Capitol Hill counterpart perhaps 6 times. The ambiance is pleasing, the decor stylish and comfortable. Our server was attentive and helpful, representing the restaurant very well. The entrees were varied and excellent. My only regret in ordering the curry crab soup is that although delicious, it was laborious (and very messy) to eat.-since it was served in the shell. I would have preferred a shelled rendition, especially given the nature of the holiday. But we'll be back!
