The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse.
Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.
Great food, classy and dignified atmosphere, excellent service, too pricey.
we have been here a few times before and it's a wonderful place for a special occasion. the food was delicious and the rom has a wonderful 1930"s NYC vibe. Make a date!!!
It was a very good experience with good service and good food. My table for two was quiet and the decor, including the wonderful murals and monkey themed artisan pieces.
We loved the ambiance but our waiter (really the bartender) was so rude and inattentive, it was shocking; he was more interested in acting like a guest than working. He was just ridiculous ... Our food was fine until we found a big hair in it. They did apologize and take that item off the bill. So, the place is really cute but they need to stop the attitude and pay attention to details.
Best spot in the area for old time fun and food. The Monkey Bar never disappoints. Great burgers, pastas and cocktails.
Met my Fiancé here 3 years ago on first date so I have only had good experiences here!!
a beautiful room, friendly and patient service. the vibe was convivial but not crazy, all the wine by the glass top notch, and the cocktails looked excellent (and the bar room with a live pianist is worth a visit too!)
Professionally polite waiters, timed food delivery well. Historic place, current vibe. Elegant!
Poor service, inattentive and careless waitstaff. Food is delicious.
Great food, cool old school but very elegant room, and good service. Possibly the best ceasar salad in Manhattan.
A rather off-hand waiter and expensive but average food made this a less than perfect venue.
Classic NYC establishment that continues to deserve its position as "go to" when dining in midtown.
Sat us in the bar--loud conversations by neighboring patrons. Mediocre food but good service.
Absolutely love this restaurant and have already gone back for lunch
The ambiance is second to none - and the food and service is fabulous.
We are returning soon.
Food was very good.
Service was excellent.
Room very warm/comfortable.
Great food, great service
I’ve gone here for restaurant week several times in the past and it was always a wonderful experience. This time the food was mediocre at best. Looks to me like Monkey Bar has joined the ranks of restaurants using restaurant week simply to get people in and collect their money. I won’t be back
The ambience is from another era (in a good way), and the food was very good. My friend and I were served well, and could easily converse with each other.
Food was amazing and the ambiance on point! Will definitely be frequenting for business lunches
Once again, the Monkey Bar was a wonderful evening out, with good food, great service, and classic NYC ambiance. Love the red leather banquettes, the surrounding Jazz age murals, and elegance of this 1930's era gem. A not to miss NYC experience. We went during restaurant week, and they had a lovely menu. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but it is elegant and fun. The service is great and we had a lovely, unrushed dinner with a dear friend we had not seen in a long time. Highly recommend--not just for tourists but also for locals seeking a bit of the elegance of NYC's classic restaurant scene.
Over priced, low quality food. Had to send vegetables ALL back for being undercooked. Terrible service. Too expensive for what it is which is too bad because I used to go there A LOT! Was one of my go to faves.
The ambiance is unbelievable. Just to be in the presence of such detailed artistry was worth the visit.
Great atmosphere and service, classic new York
Dinner was fantastic. This place is a real gem! The staff is wonderful and the food is great.
Love this place!
We had a very comfortable booth for the 4 of us for Restaurant Week lunch. We started with 4 warm rolls. The appetizers were all good-soup, crab salad, and green salad. All 4 of us had the salmon which was cooked perfectly. The waiter was okay, just a bit stiff and not welcoming, but certainly efficient. When 1 person left the table for a few minutes, the plate was covered with domed lid. It was a very good meal for $26.
Monkey Bar is a wonderful eaterie which my parents enjoyed in the 1950s, long before its most recent incarnation. The menu sings and the cuisine is dependable and good value for money. The waiters are very, very engaging without seeing obstreperous or obsequious. This is a true jewel in a splendid location and we have come to enjoy it equally for lunch and dinner. The one mi or objection I have is that the Men's toilet is hard to find..
Always a wonderful evening with great food, stellar service and attentiveness without being intrusive. Can’t wait to come back! Thank you. Ted Miller, Owner, Proprietaire / Restaurateur, Maison Hospitality Group, Philadelphia, PA
Great food ambiance and drink . Service was excellent
Everything about the Monkey Bar was wonderful -- from the food (which was unusual and yet so good, obviously made from the best ingredients!), to the ambience, to such great staff and service. It was a good place to have conversation, enjoy the meal with friends or business associates, etc. The music is just right and so is the noise level. Would love to come back and enjoy the place again.
The ladies bathroom has an approximate 6inch step up with no sign-my 75 year old stepmother tripped fell on her hip and flew across the marble floor and hit her head on the opposite wall.
Many restaurant folks were kind regarding her injury but they kept saying that the bathroom was the Hotel Eleysee’s and they couldn’t do anything. When we called for the hotel management(Greg); the staff lacked alacrity but Greg was very kind; although he did give us duplicitous answers on his experience there when we asked if they could just put a “watch your step” sign to protect other patrons, initially he said he was there less than a year and then upon further questioning he told us he was there for 8 years, managing for a year and half.
The only “watch your step” sign is on the inside of the bathroom door. Patrons be forewarned.
Loved everything about the Monkey Bar, and will definitely return.
Great service good if not outstanding trad French based cuisine decent value great interesting history and ambience. Pork chops excellent.
I love this restaurant and we go several times a year. This last experience was a bit off because there was a huge private party in the bar which was quite noisy and seemed to impact the service. We had to ask for bread and it was actually a bit stale and cold (usually the buns they serve are superb). Sounds a bit fussy but at these prices I would expect perfect service even with a private event next door. We also had to enter and leave through hotel lobby which I found annoying. My suggestion is that if there is a private event which could detract from dining, the client should be told when making the reservation.
I was a big fan for years,,, the service was terrible,,, they had a private party which the noise was deafening and ruined the dinner. They would let one know if there will be a private party of that magnitude,,,, they did not
Atmosphere was excellent- elegant old New York feel. However, food was fair-bread was hard, salad and salmon were okay but nothing special, and dessert was not very good. The chocolate torte was cold and hard, although the hazelnut crust was good. Service was efficient but not friendly. I would not return.
Amazing place, both for dining and bar. Great ambience, great dervice, delicious food
Great classic atmosphere, bar had great vibes. Service wa good. We went for restaurant week, the food was uninspired, but drinks were fabulous. Def worth going for an iconic New York moment
Good food, good service and good atmosphere!!
A great classic bar with a very comfortable, reasonably quiet restaurant. Good food, great service, Restaurant Week pricing so I thought it was very good value.
