The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse.
Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.
All perfect, but no vegan options made one guest experience disappointing.
Friend’s birthday lunch! Our server was very nice, knowledgeable and efficient!
Food was great. Atmosphere was great. Plenty of space between tables--didn't feel like NYC.
Enjoyed a quiet delicious meal with a long time friend. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends.
Uncharacteristically unique in an area with many dining options! Each time we enjoy ourselves in NYC we make sure, at least, one moment is shared at the Monkey Bar. Whether we eat in the bar or dining room the wait staff is attentive and responsive. It can be a bit crowded some weekends, but if you expect it then it simply is added ambiance. The food is wonderful and the drinks are served quickly.
Despite being expensive my wife and I booked a meal to celebrate my retirement.
To say we were disappointed is an understatement. For starters My wife chose a Shrimp cocktail which consisted of four shrimps and one lettuce leaf. I had calamari and vegetables in batter, it was discusting 10 times more batter than you would have on English fish & chips.
The mains were equally as bad my wife had trout in pastry and some green liquid which tasted of nothing. I had duck which was very tough. We skipped desert, wanted to get out ASAP. All that for 160 dollars.
All personnel very engaging and accommodating, they make you feel at home. Food terrific
Excellent food and atmosphere. Don't go at 9:30 during the week. They rushed us out as we were the last diners after 10 PM. Very disappointing!
Quintessential Manhattan restaurant. It’s just as you would imagine, chic in a 1940’s kind of way, old world service and delicious food. Loved it!
Wine with meal was late, a little noisy, but otherwise good
Great service, pretty interior, staff great. Food decent seafood base but needs more flavor
Nice conversation with Laura the manager
Fantastic spot for lunch, dinner, a drink, or anything in between. Best mini cookies I've ever had! Might sound silly, but my colleague and I (who are true cookie lovers/aficionados) thought the tiered trays of little cookies were some of the best we'd ever had. Wonderful waitstaff as well. Love this place.
Always spectacular. Perfect for a business lunch, romantic dinner or get together with friends. Love the murals.
The food is phenomenal, but the service mediocre and the cocktails are overpriced.
One of the treasures of Midtown. An oasis from the frenetic pace of Manhattan. Invisible yet attentive service, great courses, and a dining room which embodies a refined living room.
The decor and atmosphere are exquisite, the food and cocktails are delicious and the staff are warm and welcoming. A beautiful dining experience that I cannot recommend enough.
I went there during restaurant week for lunch.
Great food. Much more creative than a lot of other places. Good service. Quite busy but not loud at all. I really liked it.
Restaurant Week Lunch
We had a wonderful time here. The food and atmosphere were great. The waiter did an awesome job. Will definitely be back when we are back in the city.
Outstanding wait staff. When bartender noticed us trying to guess the notablesnon the mural wall she brought over a “map” that made it all the more fun. A lovely special evening with excellent food service and ambience
In comparison to my previous visit last year, the food has declined as well as the service. It was a lunch I was looking forward to and was disappointed to say the least. Not sure if ownership or management have changed, but won’t be planning a return, which is sad as it’s a wonderful atmosphere.
The restaurant has a very old world mad men feel to it. The wait staff is attentive. The food on the restaurant week was prepared perfectly--I don't think I have ever had a grilled tuna steak that I enjoyed as much as this!
An NYC classic--and the prettiest bar in midtown. Highly Recommend!
Wonderful meal in cool setting. Our server Edward was outstanding!
It was good. Service was good, but only one waiter for the entire room, so a little slow.
Food was good, ambiance was very nice.
I would recommend.
We made a reservation for 9:30 and upon arrival to our table our waiter said very bluntly that we need to order soon because the kitchen closes at 10.
This isn’t how I wanted to start my meal and considering the prices...this isn’t how we should be greeted.
We let it go though.
The ceviche was CRAZY salty! We didn’t finish it.
The lamb was fatty and the wine was overpriced and just “so so”.
Honestly, I rarely give bad reviews but sadly this restaurant was a HUGE disappointment!
My favorite place in midtown when I want a fancy burger.
This is a beautiful room with excellent servers. And I'm usually favorably disposed to places that have been around awhile, and aren't trying to follow fashion but offer consistently high quality food and professional service in an elegant setting. Which makes it a shame that they delivered a "NY strip steak" that was not only disappointing but barely edible. Yes, it was overcooked, but even if cooked properly, it just was not a good cut of meat -- in fact, I've never seen a real NY strip that looked like that. In 21st century NYC, it is utterly routine for steaks to be priced at $50+, but there are tons of competitive options and the baseline level of quality that one can expect both at respectable steakhouses and good restaurants generally is quite high. I can't fathom how the Monkey Bar thinks it can get away with serving this piece of beef. The appetizer (tuna tartare) was much better, and the potatoes were fine. So were the drinks. I'd like to believe that this was an aberration, but it's a hard one to explain.
Took my kids out to dinner and had a wonderful meal and get together
Great prime rib special!
Having moved out of the City seven years ago, I was thrilled to re-discover one my favorite haunts, the Monkey Bar. I hosted a friend for lunch on her birthday and she too is now an enthusiastic fan of the place. The service/food/scene was excellent and the experience every bit as good as my fond memories of former ones.
The only surprising aspect of our meal at Monkey Bar last Saturday night was that there was no one else there... Why is this? The service was excellent, the drinks were fabulous, the food was delicious and the dining room itself is delightful. Can't find a single fault.
Solid choice for a good meal with good service. Was there on a rainy Wednesday and while the seating area was 70% full the noise level was very low and that made for easy conversation. The scallop ceviche was excellent. Well made cocktails. The bar was kind of hopping when I arrived, which was fun while I waited for my dinner guest.
The food was fantastic, the restaurant was beautiful, the hostess was very friendly. The waiter could have been friendlier and more attentive.
Classic old-school restaurant in a great neighborhood.
Overall from the reviews it sounded as if this was a hot spot but it wasn't even close. The crowd was very old...very. The food was basic considering the price.
Went there for early Mother’s Day w my sister My parents used to go there back in the day. We celebrated our parents who are no longer with us. A treat was meeting the original mural artist who happened to be dining at the sane time an over the top experience fir us! Food and service excellent
