Monello Cucina - Mpls
Executive Chef Mike “YC” DeCamp has created a menu for Monello that features cuisine from the Campania region of Italy. Our menu celebrates the abundance of the farmer’s field and the fisherman’s boat. Standards like fresh pasta and panzanella are offered alongside more adventurous choices, including a razor clam crudo and whole fish for sharing.

I don't know the reason why you change to family style Italian on Sunday... but it is about Buca's level. I value Monello to be higher level than Buca. Service was awful - short staff, slow service. We did not get what we ordered. Very disappointing.
We’ve been to Monello a few times when we have tickets to MN Opera. We like the valet service and their weekend brunch but we were disappointed with their pre-performance evening meal. Portion size for the main entree was tiny and the waiter seemed rushed and stressed, even though our reservations were 2 hrs 15 minutes before the performance. We were told that the whole table had to either order ale carte or pre-performance meal, which we didn’t like.
This is our second visit in less than a year. One is always concerned that, returning to a great restaurant, we will be disappointed. We were not. Service was congenial, thorough and helpful. Food was excellent and plentiful portions. Drinks (Manhattans) and wine were very good with the Manhattans being, perhaps, the best I have ever had.
We visited on Sunday evening when the restaurant is a "pop-up" Italian restaurant featuring traditional cuisine different from Monello's usual fare.
We will be back.
Sunday brunch has one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten.
Wonderful food and excellent service...friendly, timely, and perfect!
Great experience. Our server,Alex, explained everything. We got the wine pairings and he deacribed them perfectly. We will visit again.
We had dinner before going to the Pacer event. The food was delicious, would highly recommend going .
We were very impressed with the Italian wines as well.!
Food was delicious , but overpriced and service was slow.
Dined early before going to the Orpheum for a show, so it was not busy and quiet. Service was excellent, the server very attentive and knowledgeable. They do offer an interesting chef’s menu, however we decided just to order off the menu. The food was creative and tasty. Overall, an excellent dining experience, although a little pricey.
Curious for a long time about this place, we decided to try the pre-concert menu before our Saturday night concert at Orchestra Hall. We made note of our schedule when we made the reservation, and again when we arrived for our 6 pm reservation. Rather than order the 3-course pris fixe menu, we ordered less: the grilled octopus first course and a pasta course.
The unfiltered prosecco recommended by the server was unusual but excellent. A gougere amuse bouche was a nice touch and made us eager to continue with our meal. The focaccia was excellent, light and flavorful. The grilled octopus was just right, the paprika-laced sauce and (dare I say) Nordic-style cucumbers contrasting nicely with the octopus. With some help from the server, we each ordered a glass of red wine to accompany the pasta: a cabernet franc for the gnocchi with lamb and a nebbiolo for the torch with rabbit - both excellent.
Then we waited.
We had reminded our server of our schedule when he delivered the wine, and he assured us our food would arrive soon. At 7:30 we decided that we did not care to have to wolf down our food in order to dash for the concert, and just as we started to get up to leave, our food was delivered. Too late.
I didn't mind paying for what we had consumed, because it was all excellent. We'll probably return when we have no impending schedule to finish our meal and use the gift card we received from the manager. But I certainly have to admit that our enthusiasm about Monello has dimmed. The cookie we ate at Orchestra Hall was not the dinner we had anticipated.
It was a great choice for a yummy dinner and nice glass of wine before a concert at Orchestra Hall. Service is especially good, attentive and informed, but not overbearing or obtrusive.
The cuisine is marvelous, interesting and delicious. Service from all staff was wonderful. The venue is attractive, though tables are quite small. The only drawback (if you consider it that) is that portions are teeny. That may make them more delectable, but if you have a large appetite, best to go elsewhere.
Food was fantastic and the service was excellent
Alex, was an excellent server making sure our needs were met through every course. It was a truly unique experience with the staff and food exceeding our expectations. The courses were portioned perfectly as well. Would recommend to anyone and we will be back.
Great service and food.
Loved the option of small or large portions of pasta! Delicious dinner!
Second time here and it was not as bad as the first time but not great. On Sunday the food is served family style and it’s grossly overpriced for what you get. I will not be back. There are many amazing restaurants in Minneapolis. Skip this one!
We have been 4x to your Sunday night dinner. We usually bring a group of 6-8 friends. Each time has been great!
Probably not. Portions small. Service pleasant but inconsistent and the bill presented was wrong and almost double our actual bill...
We were disappointed overall. The food (simple pastas) was very slow in coming, no explanation coming from the service staff. Staff was not particularly attentive, never asked how our food was after delivery, no offer of more tea or wine, no time for coffee after the meal as we were on deadline at the orchestra - of which the staff was well aware. Not a good experience. The venue is pleasant and convenient to MN Orchestra Hall, but the area competition is better.
We had an excellent meal, we had a group of 5 and each truly enjoyed their meal with everyone trying a different entry. I tried the duck which was cooked perfectly and quit possibly the best duck I have ever tasted. I wish I could remember the waiters name but he was professional, knowledgeable and attentive without being nuisance. I am not sure why this restaurant is not more popular possibly because its expensive but worth it. We will return.
We went to Monello to celebrate a family 60th birthday. The staff was really great in commemorating the birthday and making the occasion feel special, and in providing a wonderful experience. We really liked the ambiance and the decor. The food was quite good as well - I liked the housemade pasta a lot.
The "pre-show" menu was perfect! Great taste, appropriate portions, fabulous wine pairing - and they got us in and out with plenty of time to catch our Orchestra Hall show.
Great atmosphere! Tom our server was attentive and thorough very detailed quickly corrected a cocktail order. He gave good suggestions for food items and made sure we got them in plenty of time so we could make our orchestra schedule. The food was ALL delicious, proportioned perfectly, a wonderful variety and simply DELIGHTFUL. Our compliments to Executive Chef “Nick” and his team! Monellos is certainly a restaurant we will be returning to and will be one we will definitely refer others too also.
Amazing. Great value with the pre-theater prix fixe menu!
We had a wonderful dinner. Their idea to make a dedicated menu for theater-goers and get you there on time is terrific.
Yes - an excellent restaurant. The server forgot one of my courses, and gradually it was delivered, but I wish she had been initially more attentive.
Incredible food. Excellent ambiance and service. Our server Reed was exceptional. A bit pricey but worth it. Definitely will return.
Mama Decampos is a most delightful classic Italian meal with amazing ambiance !!
A great place to go before heading to Orchestra Hall. The three-course tasting menu was perfect — and the wine pairings added a nice touch. Would definitely go again.
Wonderful food. We loved everything we had from the Yellow Tail and Vegetable Tart to the Beet pasta (beautiful and tasty) and the Lamb gnocchi.
We had a wonderful waiter but the service from the kitchen was slow. We were hoping to eat and finish within an hour but instead it took two hours.
Other than the low class table of dance moms that created unnecessary noise and were looking for marinara instead of elevated coastal Italian, the evening was perfect.
it was disappointing to celebrate our anniversary there. The waiter felt like he didn't want to serve us and other tables were more important than ours. we felt like the gentleman that was serving us water was more attentive to us than our waiter. you could tell that our waiter paid more attention to the return guests more which is cool to be tipped better but also us been new to the area you want us to come back and bring more friends and family with us. From both of us been servers to another it could have been better. This place was highly recommend by one of our liquor reps and bragged about it, but was not the case when we left.
Celebration with my husband
Pre-orchestra dinner with friends. Waited a bit before we even saw a server. Wine pairings came after food was served. Was still excellent— just didn’t feel as coordinated as usual.
This is the perfect pre-Orchestra Hall dinner venue. Free valet and a skyway over to the Hall. The food is exquisite. The service top notch. The space beautiful. A perfect evening paired with a concert.
Great tasting menus. Desserts miss the mark : unremarkable, unimaginative and not at the level of the rest of the food or the experience.
Great food. Nice pre theater menu
I understand that Sunday evenings they change their menu to a limited option and call it "Mama DeCampos". I knew this going in and opted to keep my reservation to give it a try. I spent many years in restaurant management and I could immediately tell this is a money grab by the restaurant because they probably don't have the sales to warrant a full staff on Sunday evenings....I get it. However, that is no excuse for incredibly poor service and even worse food. The Chicken Picatta was luke warm and served "Family Style", however, we never received any plates so we just used our salad bowls to eat from. We were never offered anything else to drink outside of the initial order taking. The marinara sauce for the pasta was as if it were pulled directly from an old can of Chef Boyardee.
We are very tolerant of service and food, and I rarely if at all, write reviews. But this was terrible. We had enjoyed a nice afternoon at the Guthrie and we left Monello angry and frustrated. We won't be returning.
