Monello Cucina - Mpls
Executive Chef Mike “YC” DeCamp has created a menu for Monello that features cuisine from the Campania region of Italy. Our menu celebrates the abundance of the farmer’s field and the fisherman’s boat. Standards like fresh pasta and panzanella are offered alongside more adventurous choices, including a razor clam crudo and whole fish for sharing.

I tried the tasting menu hoping to be wow'd. The presentations were very good but taste and flavor were just ok.
Honestly it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had to date. I had been here several times and had a lovely time, so you can imagine how frustrating it was to plan my best friends birthday dinner here and get the service that we did. It actually started off great- we were seated right away, it wasn’t too crowded in our section so we had some privacy and could enjoy our conversation. We already new we wanted to do the tasting menu, and ordered a bottle of wine- which was a great recommendation from their server. We waited about 20 minutes before we finally got a bread basket and another 5-10 after that before we got our first course. Not a single time did someone check in on us after that. Our second course came after we waited for a while with our cutlery down and wine glasses empty. The servers were being very attentive to any table around us, filling their drinks, checking on their meals. We sat in silence, I poured our drinks, sat with empty plates again for 5-10 minutes before being checked on and asking if we were ready for our next course- which obviously we were, then 10 more min go by before the next course is brought. At this point we are getting tired, losing our appetites- we finish our 3rd course and our wine. Wait another 10 minutes- I wave down the nearest person walking by, noticing nearly 2 hours have gone by and we are waiting on our 4th course to arrive still, I mention the service has been very slow and see if we could speed things up as we are now potentially limited on time for the remainder of our meal. Someone comes by to clear our plates, no acknowledgment of the delay or apology. 10 minutes our next course arrives. My friend is frustrated because her birthday guests are on their way to the next destination and we have not yet gotten through our meal. There was so much of a delay at this point we request the check and the rest of our meal to go. We watched people around us get exceptional service, while we were ignored- why?
New Year’s Eve
We all thoroughly enjoyed our experience Thank you
The food was fantastic but when going to a restaurant of this caliber with a world-class Somelier you expect top of the line service. We have been looking forward to the restaurant for a while and we were greatly let down only because of our server. Our server was an older gentleman and not socialble. When we asked questions of the menus or wine he pretty much just read the menu description back to us. We could have done that. Very little personality. You need to pay attention to your staff. They are as important as the food. I have been to places with lower quality food with great service and I would choose that over the poor service at Monello
Visited Monello for my second time with a party of 6. The service was amazing. Thank you Amy and Alex. Amy and Alex helped us out by really knowing the entire menu as well as pairing amazing wine with the Dinner. They also kept us informed of our upcoming Walker Art Museum event and made sure we had an great dining experience plus being conscious of time. The food and drink were AMAZING but paired with AMAZING service made the entire evening. Highly recommend Monello.
Delicious emotion inducing food. Great wine and service .
We went for dinner on Christmas Eve. The food and service were excellent.
Living downtown, Monello is one of our go-to restaurants. The food is always good, the wine list is interesting and the service exceptional. We are never disappointed. HOWEVER, this particular night, everything was absolute perfection and it was probably the best experience we've ever had here. Every dish was truly done to perfection. I dream about the torchio! It was a beautiful evening out with dear friends to celebrate the holiday season. Kudos to YC, Corrine and their entire staff for consistently delivering a world-class experience!
The pre-theatre fixed price menu is a fantastic sample of the menu and the paired wines were worth the price. The Calabria region, in Southern Italy, is featured in the restaurant and reflective of all the dishes we tried. Wines came from Calabria and Peidmont regions and some were daring flavors that may be a bit too much on their own but match up with the food perfectly. We look forward to returning to try additional dishes and wines that we may not have tried before.
Enjoyed dinner with a friend to celebrate his 50th birthday. The staff was attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the menu (refreshing) and was able to help me pair my wine to perfection. The tables were spaced appropriately for intimate conversation but yet the vibe of the place was good for both couples and groups alike. We will definitely return, I've requested a return trip for my birthday in February. BRAVO Monello Cucina, well done!
Enjoyed another fabulous dinner at Monello. Service and food was outstanding.
Fantastic pastas. Our server was excellent. Nice ambience. It was perfect for our anniversary night out.
They did not even have the menu that they post it online since I'm Sunday night they just had the bar menu so the food was terrible
Four us us met for a dinner before a concert. The waiter recommended that we consider the Prix Fixe menu prepared for concert goers. Being new to the restaurant my wife and I chose to follow his advice. Our dining companions decided to choose from the a la carte menu. We were immediately told that the entire table had to choose the a la carte menu or non of us could choose it. My wife and I chose to find a single entre each to accommodate our companions. We each chose a salad to accompany our dinner. Over a twenty minute period each of us received our salads. Our waiter acted as if we were inconveniencing him and was either not present or rude.
When we complained the management could not have been nicer. Without asking they removed the charge for the salads. The food was delightful. I would love to attend this establishment when I do not have the time constraints of a performance. I still do not understand why two members of the table could not be allowed the "theater" menu.
Regardless, we will try this establishment again. Should the wait staff continue to be rude we will find a different venue for your Orchestra evenings.
We love Mama DeCampo's on Sunday nights, the food is AMAZING, the chicken parm is one of the best! Cannot wait to go back!
Our server was not very personable. This can make or break a meal as you know.
We love your place during the weekend as well but Sunday is special as it is supposed to be fun.
Our sever was not into it and maybe works during the week when the audience might be different.
This will not stop us from returning as your food is so
Consistently one of the best restaurants I’ve ever dined at. The food and service are always exceptional and it will continue to be a favorite for any special occasion.
Amazing pastas, tasty cocktails, chic but comfortable atmosphere.
Our meal was delicious, memorable. The atmosphere both classy and comfortable. We
The Sunday brunch service and eggs benedict and custom omelet were excellent and the bottomless mimosa option was well handled and delicious. A great place for meal pre or post MN Orchestra event. The skyway connection to event was much appreciated in cold weather.
Wonderful tasting menu!!
The food was tasty and well prepared, but you get very little and this makes it a poor value. I don't expect to be fed like I would at a less expensive place, but I seriously left feeling hungry. My family of 6 accompanied me and all agreed they needed to be fed after dinner. I was also disappointed there was no chicken option.
We ate here to celebrate our wedding anniversary before attending a Minnesota Orchestra concert, which was a close walking distance away. Service was excellent and the food was amazing! My only regret is that I didn’t order the large-sized pasta (instead of the small) because it was SO good! Nice quiet and romantic ambience, perfect for a special occasion.
I have eaten here several times and it is my favorite place for a romantic night out, pre-theater dinner, and/or creative cuisine.
We came here because the tasting menus looked great. If you do decide to go, I think the general tasting menu was superior to the pasta tasting menu. The entire party did a tasting menu, some the pasta and some the regular and some dishes were hit or miss. We all enjoyed the torchio pasta dish with braised rabbit and agreed we could've eaten a gallon of it. I would definitely order that as an entree if I were to return. The crudo was good, it just needed a little more oomph in the flavor profile. The dry aged beef ribeye course was also perfectly cooked at medium rare and well-seasoned. The octopus was cooked and seasoned well. They were able to accommodate dietary restrictions. My friends who ordered the pasta tasting said the first dish was the star of the meal, the Spaghetti Nero ala Chitarra. We also ordered the wine pairing as well. When the dishes and wines were brought out, none of them were described. I had to finally get the menu out on my phone to look it up. When we kept asking about the wine, we were maybe told the grape and the region; otherwise it seemed to be one or the other. They knew little about the wine. A couple of the pairings were a little off, especially towards the end, they were barely drinkable and I do love a good dessert wine. Although it doesn't matter much, I don't love seeing the dribbles come out of a bottle and then mixed in with a new bottle. Who knows how long the other bottle has been opened for. I would say for $160 + tax + tip per person, more service would've made this go from an overall 2.5/3-star experience to a 4/4.25-star experience. The restaurant had only two other tables, maybe 8 people in the restaurant, so the lack of service was not due to being overly busy. All in all, I would say there are other tasting menus and general menus in the Metro that have a better value per dish and a significantly better service standard that makes you walk out of there obsessing about when you'll be back.
This has been our go-to for several years when in downtown Mpls, but their limited menu has finally bored us. The quality of the food and service is wonderful, but the arch parings of ingredients is off putting. And with a garlic allergy, the options are limited (in the pasta items - to one). I do hate menus that use terms that make you resort to Google. Carta di Muscia? Yikes!
We came to Monello for an anniversary dinner and we were incredibly impressed. Not only was the food of the highest quality, but the service and hospitality we received from our server, Alex, was amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique food experience.
we can always count on great food, wine, service and ambience.
The ambiance is great for a date. The food, while focused on Italian is often light and skillfully executed. It was great.
Not great. Would not return.
Very poor waiter and the Octopus was way over cooked. Very disappointed with the restaurant. I assume my experience was a one off.
Went for the Sunday Supper. Large portions, delicious food and prompt friendly staff
Never disappoints -- Outstanding Crudos and pastas
Delicious! And the wait staff was great! We will definitely go back!
We have been to Monello several times and it is always a great experience. The food is exceptional and the service is top notch. We ordered the tasting menu and my partner added a wine flight but I don't drink so our waiter arranged for a non alcoholic flight to accompany my meal. The bartender did an exceptional job pairing my drinks to the courses, especially since this was all done on the fly! Thanks to Reed and the staff for a wonderful night.
excellent fish, Italian noodle creations, and champaign. I would however have loved to have some moet chandon, too.
Yearly tradition for my bf and I to eat here before going to the orchestra. We love it every time. Food is amazing and impeccable service.
My husband tried the chef’s tasting menu and I did the pasta tasting menu with wine pairings. Every course was delicious and we had a great server. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan to go back.
