I dine at Monarch several times a year as well as Dragonfly at ZAZA Dallas. I am never disappointed. ZAZA management knows how to properly run a restaurant.
Had a delicious Christmas brunch, the quail starter was very tender and tasty as was the turkey entree. The pecan rum tart was to die for. Great experience made all the better by our wonderful waiter Ernest. Top marks Monarch!
We booked for an early dinner on Christmas Eve. Everything was wonderful, very attentive staff -- but if you eat inside you will see TV screens on over the bar. Nobody was at the bar and in my opinion, they took away from the ambience. Nonetheless I highly recommend.
Impeccable food, service, and atmosphere. Very few restaurants will provide you with a "WOW" experience like the Monarch is able to provide. It is a restaurant run by experienced chefs and a staff that is trained to provide the highest quality service.
Every dish and drink is amazing and unique, the presentation is superb, and the food selections offer a variety of tastes and options. While you will find the restaurant located in a hotel, local Houstonians are ever present and have already spotted this place as unique and a place for fine dining. If you are looking for outstanding cuisine, meals that appeal to all palates, and service that always meets or exceeds customer expectations, put this restaurant on your list for your next dining experience or special occasion.
Excellent steak and salmon dishes. Crab cakes were the best. Attentive service.
Quiet for conversation
Amazing brunch! Everything was delicious!
went to this place for brunch, great service will be sure to come back when family and friends are visiting.
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner at Monarch on Saturday evening.
The restaurant area we found nicely organized and pleasant. We had some mixed appetizers to start with, including a tasty crab puff amuse-bouche courtesy of the chef.
The lamb lollipops were awesome - the right mix of juiciness and flavor. We could've eaten those 3 times over. The tuna tacos I have mixed feelings about. The wonton wrapper was dark brown and very oily (too quickly fried or too high a temp? Not sure...) while the tuna filling was soft, moist and perfectly spiced. I left the shells and ate the filling. The fish cake was fresh, soft and delicious.
For the main course, I had the scallops and my husband had the mahi-mahi (the special of the day). I found the seafood to be very fresh. The scallops were perfectly cooked, as was the fish. The chef clearly knows and appreciates his seafood.
The ambiance was kind of quiet for a Saturday which we certainly didn't mind and was refreshing actually! The restaurant kind of joins on to the bar but if the music is kept low, it works fine. They also have an outdoor option if you prefer your dinner al fresco.
The menu is a little eclectic, which I like, although my one criticism would be the dishes - apps and main courses - all seemed to be a little heavy on the oil, but that might just be my opinion. The fried items had a lot of oil dripping off the breading and the other items were glistening and had visible oil drops on the plate. I'm not sure we had anything which wasn't quite oily.
I ordered the apple and brie cheese hand pie for dessert out of curiosity and wow - this was the best part of the meal! We couldn't finish it (just too much food in all!) but seriously, if you like apple with cheese (just a little touch of brie) then order this dessert. It's so good!! I'm not crazy about brie unless it's melted but it was so subtle in the dessert I loved it., Seriously, order this!!!
Love love loved the food and the ambience! Service was superior!
