I dine at Monarch several times a year as well as Dragonfly at ZAZA Dallas. I am never disappointed. ZAZA management knows how to properly run a restaurant.
Had a delicious Christmas brunch, the quail starter was very tender and tasty as was the turkey entree. The pecan rum tart was to die for. Great experience made all the better by our wonderful waiter Ernest. Top marks Monarch!
We booked for an early dinner on Christmas Eve. Everything was wonderful, very attentive staff -- but if you eat inside you will see TV screens on over the bar. Nobody was at the bar and in my opinion, they took away from the ambience. Nonetheless I highly recommend.
Impeccable food, service, and atmosphere. Very few restaurants will provide you with a "WOW" experience like the Monarch is able to provide. It is a restaurant run by experienced chefs and a staff that is trained to provide the highest quality service.
Every dish and drink is amazing and unique, the presentation is superb, and the food selections offer a variety of tastes and options. While you will find the restaurant located in a hotel, local Houstonians are ever present and have already spotted this place as unique and a place for fine dining. If you are looking for outstanding cuisine, meals that appeal to all palates, and service that always meets or exceeds customer expectations, put this restaurant on your list for your next dining experience or special occasion.
Excellent steak and salmon dishes. Crab cakes were the best. Attentive service.
Quiet for conversation
Amazing brunch! Everything was delicious!
went to this place for brunch, great service will be sure to come back when family and friends are visiting.
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner at Monarch on Saturday evening.
The restaurant area we found nicely organized and pleasant. We had some mixed appetizers to start with, including a tasty crab puff amuse-bouche courtesy of the chef.
The lamb lollipops were awesome - the right mix of juiciness and flavor. We could've eaten those 3 times over. The tuna tacos I have mixed feelings about. The wonton wrapper was dark brown and very oily (too quickly fried or too high a temp? Not sure...) while the tuna filling was soft, moist and perfectly spiced. I left the shells and ate the filling. The fish cake was fresh, soft and delicious.
For the main course, I had the scallops and my husband had the mahi-mahi (the special of the day). I found the seafood to be very fresh. The scallops were perfectly cooked, as was the fish. The chef clearly knows and appreciates his seafood.
The ambiance was kind of quiet for a Saturday which we certainly didn't mind and was refreshing actually! The restaurant kind of joins on to the bar but if the music is kept low, it works fine. They also have an outdoor option if you prefer your dinner al fresco.
The menu is a little eclectic, which I like, although my one criticism would be the dishes - apps and main courses - all seemed to be a little heavy on the oil, but that might just be my opinion. The fried items had a lot of oil dripping off the breading and the other items were glistening and had visible oil drops on the plate. I'm not sure we had anything which wasn't quite oily.
I ordered the apple and brie cheese hand pie for dessert out of curiosity and wow - this was the best part of the meal! We couldn't finish it (just too much food in all!) but seriously, if you like apple with cheese (just a little touch of brie) then order this dessert. It's so good!! I'm not crazy about brie unless it's melted but it was so subtle in the dessert I loved it., Seriously, order this!!!
Love love loved the food and the ambience! Service was superior!
My son and I were there for Thanksgiving meal. I wish I could say the food was amazing but it was not. The Menu was all Al Carte. The waiter did not seem familiar with the Thanksgiving Menu. The food was salty and taste like liquid smoke was used. Not a glass of wine for less than $16. I found the food below average . Total bill for 2 $240. I do not recommend this restaurant.
Fabulous as usual! Ask for waiter Earnest he is the best! C*
My sweetie and I had brunch before heading to the spa for a message!! Super yummy!!
Very nice restaurant. Nice ambience, specially the patio with the views. Excellent and friendly service. We were greeted for our anniversary! Will definitely celebrate it here next year!
We were celebrating a friend's birthday and were pleasantly surprised to find several gluten free entrees on the menu! Even delicious gluten free bread. It was a treat. Our server was very professional, yet friendly. We will return!
This is such a lovely venue, but the service is not good. Restaurant virtually empty and yet we never received drink or water refills, took forever to get check, and wait staff was aimlessly wandering around doing nothing. Food is good and if service would improve it would be a great choice.
The atmosphere is great. The food was really good. The service was outstanding.
Definitely I will come back to this place, never disappointed
Planned husbands dinner date here, made the best choice ever! The food choices were great, the service was amazing, and the drinks were superb! Definitely going back for more getaway times!!
Very odd mishmash of decor. Exceedingly dark, but that could be because we were seated in a far back corner next to the patio door. (Women dining alone are treated differently? I never believed that until now.) So dark we had to use the flashlight apps on our phones to read the menu.
Wine list was the usual same old stuff, and more than usually marked up. My dining companion had only one choice on the menu (she’s vegan) and it was so thoroughly dark, she was unaware that the root vegetables in her dish still had stems attached until she bit into one. (I’m always a bit leery of a place that doesn’t want you to see the food.) The food was good, but nothing special for the price.
Valet parking was confusing and momentarily disconcerting... they had us enter at one location, then when we left, there was nobody at that door and the driveway was blocked off. We had to go around to a different side of the hotel.
Not the great night we had been expecting, and we are really pretty easy to please. We have each managed restaurants across all levels and cuisines, so generally cut some slack because stuff. The wait staff and host staff were friendly and professional, though. (Again with the odd mix of styles, the wait staff uniforms were completely out of sync with the restaurant. And what’s with the mirrored lower walls in otherwise black (!) restrooms? Is this whole thing the project of a trophy wife?)
We have no photos to add, because none of them came out. Did I mention it was very dark?
We came in for a birthday dinner and Martin treated us like kings. If you ever come here make sure to ask for Martin!
Best Lamb Lollipops!
Unfortunately hot coffee was spilt on my husband & I, waiter apologized, however, did not do as much as he could to check we had everything we needed, including g, making sure we hadn’t been scolded!
Stain on my husband’s short needed to be treated.
The breakfast was very well done. All the food was perfectly prepared. Service was excellent. The hotel was very swanky. We ate up on the patio. Did not have to deal with the humidity.
Romantic setting on the porch for dinner. The portions are generous and expertly prepared. Had the lamb lollipops which were great -medium. The caprese salad was very good. The scallops for dinner was a hit. The special fish was well done. Loved the butternut squash soup too.
Did not have dessert but the chocolate cake looked good.
friendly setting, our waiter was amazing..Richard.
Great experience per usual! Food was great, service was great ! See you soon Monarch!
Once again, service was amazing and impeccable. Tiki loved every moment. Both the restaurant and the hotel has been recommended to our friends, however, we would much rather keep this gem to ourselves.
Service by Richard and Josue were outstanding! We went there for Houston Restaurant Week but will definitely be back!
Pleasant relaxing experience.
On the pricey side but very good and we enjoyed it for brunch
Beautiful patio for a delicious brunch with a friendly staff that took great care of us! The sweet potato and house made breakfast sausage hash was incredible and so favorful. I'll definitely be ordering that again!
We came here for dinner and it was very good. The staff was very courteous. When it came to the food, oh wow! It was a great meal. Plenty of flavor, everything was cooked to order. We had a lot of fun here and would come back.
2 dollar signs needs to be raised to 3. Service was good.
Very expensive for what it was...food average at best. Best thing we had was the complimentary amuse bouche. Least expensive wine buy the glass $11 no bottle under $50. We usually trust open table reviews but this one let us down.
Earnest and Richard were great both nights we ate there. Food was outstanding
Wedding anniversary and it was great
Service great and yummy brunch with a complimentary mimosa-
Perfect for our Sunday girls brunch and the church bells ringing at noon was charming
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel ZaZa for his 60th birthday. Even though we live in the Houston area, we checked-in late afternoon and lounged by the awesome pool area for a few hours. We had 7:00 PM dinner reservations at the Monarch. We do not usually eat at hotel restaurants, but like to try different local locations. We decided to try the Monarch and are so glad we did. We did not feel we were in a hotel. It was decorated very classy, the food was wonderful and the staff was very attentive. They have a very nice enclosed patio and also a great bar. We ended up eating breakfast back in the Monarch the next morning with equally delicious food. I am ready to go back!!
We came for breakfast on the morning after our 5th wedding anniversary. The service was great and the food was amazing. I highly recommend it and we will without a doubt be returning!
Great place! Surprised at the food quality given this is a hotel restaurant. We were extremely pleased, especially with Richard's excellent service.
Instead of the dining room, we stayed in the lounge for our dinner. We had a great relaxed experience. The food was great. Cheese plate a bit pricey for what you received (very little cheese). But, overall we really enjoyed our visit.
