The food was great. Portion size was generous so go hungry or share. I will definitely be back
The food and service were very good. However, it was so hot in the restaurant, it was uncomfortable. The waiter told us they were working on the air, but it never cooled down, so very uncomfortable.
As always good!!!
I ordered something that came with a side dish with pine nuts. I told the server I was allergic to pine nuts and he happily changed the side dish. Unfortunately, when my order came up pine nuts were sprinkled ALL OVER the substitute side dish. Hmmm. Either the chef or food runner did this —or server didn’t make it clear about the allergy. The order was remade fairly quickly which I appreciated and my wine was comped. After all that the food was delicious and the salmon was cooked PERFECTLY.
We had a nice lunch on the patio. Although it was a warm day, the outside dining was pleasant. The food was delicious!
Excellent place to eat, gather with friends and family! Very well appointed!
Plesent staff with a really friendly vibe . The decor was cool it was very different. The drinks were perfect and plentiful great paring to wonderful food, had a little of everything from salads to entrees!
Was very disappointed with lunch at Monarch. Waited a very long time for our food and service was slow and disinterested. Dirty appetizer plates were left on our table for the entire meal. Food was okay. Two people got fried chicken and said it was good. Two of us got the impossible burger and it was not very good. Had high expectations for the restaurant because it was in Hotel Zaza, but missed the mark completely. Would not go again.
Great food and service!!!
Monarch was a lovely location for a pre-show dinner and short walk to the Miller Outdoor Theater concert. I would choose it again and recommend it to friends. Service was prompt, professional and friendly.
A few years ago we read good things about the Caesar's salad, we ordered it and really found many inconsistencies with it. Although you could tell the dressing was made on-premise, the square-cut lettuce tasted just like the ones that come in a bag. The leaves lacked moisture and the edges weren't freshly cut which took a lot away from the overall dish. The rest of the food was what I consider average even a tad below average considering and depending of who you compare it too. The Bloody Mary at the bar was made with a horrible commercial mix that was ghastly to say the least. They need to strive in making their restaurant be above your typical hotel chain restaurant. Service was surprisingly good given the fact that the servers looked and talked as if they were about to go night clubbing. Overall it was ok but not something to write home about which is something they should aspire to. The hotel Sorella in Houston's West side for example has an excellent restaurant inside of it. One of the Monarch's managers should go there to see how it's really done.
The restaurant itself was very nice. We enjoyed the ambience and the staff was very welcoming and pleasant. The drinks were very good and there was an array of food choices on the menu. We ordered medium steaks that came back well done. When we brought to their attention, they were quick to remedy the issue and replace them. We would definitely go back.
Great meal, well worth it!
Delicious and excellent service.
Monarch Bistro is always my first choice of places to dine when I am in Houston, whether from the lunch or dinner menus. The restaurant is beautiful, the service is top-notch, and the experience is perfection. I'll be there again soon!
Food and cocktails are amazing. Service was just perfect ! Very, very good !!
Really excellent service and atmosphere.
Beautiful environment with a friendly and helpful wait staff. Although not perfect, they made up for any shortfalls.
Van Gogh exhibit at MFAH
The food and the service were excellent. The waiter was very knowledgeable and made excellent suggestions. The manager stopped by to check on us a couple of times. There was a noisy large group near our table which almost ruined the dinner for us but, thankfully, they left by the time the appetizer arrived. We highly recommend the lamb lollipops. The food is not overpriced for a restaurant of this type but the wine is. You normally expect to pay double the retail for a bottle of wine in a restaurant. Monarch marks up its wines by factors of three or four.
Although my fried buttermilk chicken was delicious, my husband's steak was fatty and tough for $44.00. Also, the crab cake (appetizer) was tasteless and was just one small crab cake. We also had breakfast there on Sunday morning, and the waffle was made with olive oil I believe? It had a very strange aftertaste.
The service was great! The food was not great what so ever.
Perfect in every way! Mommy vacation!
Good hotel food but
I had a chopped chicken salad, it was bland consisting of iceberg lettuce. Not tasty at all. My friend had onion soup which had no favor. The beef open face sandwich was good but not excellent. For the price of the dishes food needs some favor.
We enjoyed our meal very much. Service was prompt and cordial we started out with the guacamole and pimento cheese appetizer. It was a very large portion of the cheese and a good sized portion of guacamole. We couldn’t finish all of the cheese portion. My kiddos both had the cheeseburger and fries and they eat it all up. The were cooked to order and they both received them exactly the way they requested them. One likes well done and other prefers medium rare. I had the 8oz filet and subbed out the sides for the chili garlic broccoli. The steak was properly cooked and well seasoned and the broccoli was delicious. We didn’t have room for any desserts after the large portions of the meals.
I love this place so so much. Twice we have stayed at the hotel and enjoy multiple meals at the Monarch. Service is outstanding, atmosphere is lovely, and the food is amazing. I savor it all, and can’t wait to come back. Awesome experience.
Like the new menu.... management was visible and visited tables....I like that
Fabulous first anniversary dinner here! Attention to detail was outstanding. Salmon was perfectly cooked, & the 4-oz filet was great for me (not a huge portion). We ate here as we were spending the night at Hotel Za Za. But we will be returning just to dine here again!
We were staying at the hotel and went to the restaurant several times. I liked the patio which was pleasant and the tuna tacos were great. I didn't like the booth inside because it was so loud. We had made a reservation for 6, requesting the patio, arrived early and were told it was booked for a private party. But there didn't seem to be many people out there. We asked to move and finally did. Once outside, it was very pleasant. It just seemed a little hard to get the servers attention but it may have been the time we were there. I would always ask for the patio in the future.
We were on the patio on a perfect spring day for Houston. Lunch was pricy but worth it.
Lovely dinner on the veranda for a night out out w/ my husband. Perfect spring setting and view in H-Town!
The host gave us a friendly greeting and sat us in a beautiful spot outside. Just beautiful! We started with the delectable tuna tacos. That aioli on the tacos... heavenly! My husband ordered the fish special. He was so happy with it. He said everything on the plate was full of flavor. I had the fried chicken breast with potatoes and green beans. Also very good. Fried perfectly and juicy inside. I would love to have a spicy option though. I'd requested a side of the aioli to eat with my chicken but I guess the server forgot.
The drinks were also very good.
Great spot for lunch!! We really enjoyed the outdoor seating and kind staff.
Marriage proposal celebration
Really wonderful. Very personable service and excellent kitchen.
The Monarch Bistro at Hotel ZaZa never fails to please: wonderful atmosphere, great food and drinks, and reasonable prices. Monarch is top-notch all the way!
Very popular spot which means the wait for service and food can be a tad long . Having said that, the staff is quite pleasant and the food delicious . I had a business breakfast and lunch here and would recommend the place .
The ribeye was full of fat it was sent back - he got a fillet instead medium rare- came out medium well - never offered dessert Menu or coffee ? Have stayed at Zaza and eaten there before - it was our anniversary and could’ve picked any place in Houston to eat and we picked the Monach - Bad decision ! We ended up going to another restaurant to get coffee and a dessert -
