Great table location on the patio, good service, great food.
Food was great! My husband's steak was huge! Maybe because we were sitting too close to bar area, it was a little loud. My husband couldn't hear what l was saying.
Service was excellent. Loved the vegetarian Superfoods bowl with the impossible burger patty. I will be back just for this.
Great job start to finish. Wait time, service, quality of food. Helpful, accommodating wait staff ready to help. I will be back.
Always consistent service and food no matter what time or what day I visit
The food was pretty average but the service was fantastic. Can’t blame the service for the food and can’t give the food credit that the service group earned, so 3/5 stars.
Fabulous hamburgers...fresh tasting meat cooked to requested temp and SUPER fries!!!
Great experience in spite of the weather!!
Lamb chops weren't as good as I remember them. I felt they were lacking the seasoning. We ordered them medium but next time need to order them medium well as I didn't like the chewiness of the meat. The crab cakes were delicious. More crab than bread crumbs. Perfectly cooked perfectly seasoned
The key lime pie was a special treat. Perfect in taste, consistency and flavor!!
Beautiful atmosphere always 💕
Def a revisit soon
We had made a reservation and we were sat in the bar that was very loud. Our waitress seemed to forget about us when we didn’t order alcohol. It took so long to order and to get our bill that I don’t believe I will go back.
Great market fish with fabulous vegetables
Great burger and excellent crispy fries!!!!
I had high expectations to be having dinner in such a nice 4 star hotel but unfortunately it was disappointing. Our experience started when we asked the waiter for a gin cocktail. We explained we liked cucumber or basil. Of course he said and recommended something from the cocktail list that sounded good. A few minutes later he returned with two Whisky cocktails. I asked him to come back and explained the problem. He quickly recommended another and I asked to read the description which turned out to be vodka based. I eventually ordered a G&T. Now for the menus....this was 8pm and we were sitting with lunch menu's and I asked for the dinner menu. He exchanged them for almost identical menu's. One said dinner and one said lunch. There was no mention of the HRW menu so I assumed they were not participating. We ordered two appetizers and one entree which were good, basic but good.
Our bill was $150 for a basic meal and inadequate service which we paid and left. We reached the valet parking who wanted $15 for parking. I commented that it seemed high when we just eat in the restaurant for 90 minutes. She reluctantly suggested we ask the restaurant to validate our parking.
Again, another example of poor service from the restaurant staff. Why were we not told this when we checked in or by the waiter. Why were we not offered the HRW menu. Why does the waiters not know the 8 or so cocktails on their list. It may be a 4 star Hotel, but it is a 2 star restaurant. I will not be going back when Houston has so many amazing restaurants with well trained eager staff.
Best steak I’ve had in a long time. Looking forward to going back. The table next to us was obnoxious and loud for such a nice place. Not much you can do about that. I highly recommend this place
Great market fish
While it was quite crazy busy and little warm in the restaurant, the food was outstanding. There were 4 in our party and we all loved our food! The service was wonderful!
Great food. Great desserts. Great portions. Attentive waiter. Beautiful. Will validate valet. Sleek classy clean.
The Hotel and Restaurant both have a great ambiance! Service was nice, but disappointed in the food. Super bland. Overall...3 out of 5.
Our waitress forgot drinks, we had to ask fir bread and had to ask someone else for the check. She disappeared for long periods of time.
Food was great and place is nice.
The service is excellent, our waiter took very good care of us. The food was uneven, certain dishes worked well while others were not very good at all. The desserts in particular were mediocre. The ambiance is nice, the terrace looked pretty. All in all, we were glad to have tried it but I’m not sure we’d go back.
Great food and service
Had a lovely meal with friends and the service and lighting was great. I will make a point of going back
We love to stay at the hotel, and we always eat there at the Monarch. The service is top notch, everyone that walks by wants to make sure you are happy and need nothing. The food is always great, love to try something new each time we go. It is not loud like a lot of places that you can not carry on a conversation with your friends! The atmosphere is great. I really enjoy sitting outside in the garden area. Always enjoyable!
Really appreciated the manager coming by the table to talk to us about our day
We discovered the ZaZa Hotel in the Museum District a few weeks ago and enjoyed a couple drinks and appetizers at the bar. We had a great experience and now it was time to explore their dining menu:
The Gulf Coast Crabcake was a pretty good size and well seasoned.
The Pan-Seared Sea Scallops were a great combination of flavors, but couldn’t impress comparing international cuisine in Portugal and Mexico City.
The Grilled Salmon Filet with the shaved cauliflower and golden raisins and pine nuts: This was the best salmon entree I had, ever! Well done! No, actually medium done! Maybe that made all the difference!
However, the service lacked the attention and passion we expected in a beautiful ambiance like the Monarch @ Hotel ZaZa to round up our dining experience memorable in a positive way:
It started with pouring ice water in a tall glass: I stopped the busser and asked the server for water without ice or if they have any mineral water available. When he suggested Topo Chico I ordered it with a glass please, but no ice. During that conversation the busser came around the table, grabbed my empty glass I pushed away to avoid pouring water in it. I told him that I do not want water with ice. He poured it anyway, responding to me like they ALWAYS pour water, no matter what.
Which really concerns me considering other restaurants only serve water if ordered to reduce consumption and considering water preservation.
My Aperitif was served WITH ICE and my Topo Chico was never served. The server suggested to bring me a new drink without ice but that did not happen either. Needless to say that I tried to save my aperitif by fishing the ice out with my fork.
We rounded up with a Port Wine. I savored the last bit to really finish with a good note. One moment I did not pay attention, the busser grabbed our glasses, one empty and one NOT YET FINISHED. I must admit: He was fast and did what he was told to do: If he only would have asked if he could take it...
Excellent market fish special with great sides
We started with the Artisanal Meat and Cheese board which was wonderful. The Salmon Filet was probably the best i've ever tasted and it was sitting on a bed of shaved cauliflower, golden raisins, and pine nuts, in a lemon vinaigrette... OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD.!! We ended the night with the Cheesecake and it was possibly the creamiest, most decadent cheesecake ever! I'm a food snob, but THIS was an amazing experience all around!!!
The food was great. Portion size was generous so go hungry or share. I will definitely be back
The food and service were very good. However, it was so hot in the restaurant, it was uncomfortable. The waiter told us they were working on the air, but it never cooled down, so very uncomfortable.
As always good!!!
Just good food. Ate here twice while in Hotel great lobster roll and fabulous appetizers.
I ordered something that came with a side dish with pine nuts. I told the server I was allergic to pine nuts and he happily changed the side dish. Unfortunately, when my order came up pine nuts were sprinkled ALL OVER the substitute side dish. Hmmm. Either the chef or food runner did this —or server didn’t make it clear about the allergy. The order was remade fairly quickly which I appreciated and my wine was comped. After all that the food was delicious and the salmon was cooked PERFECTLY.
We had a nice lunch on the patio. Although it was a warm day, the outside dining was pleasant. The food was delicious!
Excellent place to eat, gather with friends and family! Very well appointed!
Plesent staff with a really friendly vibe . The decor was cool it was very different. The drinks were perfect and plentiful great paring to wonderful food, had a little of everything from salads to entrees!
Was very disappointed with lunch at Monarch. Waited a very long time for our food and service was slow and disinterested. Dirty appetizer plates were left on our table for the entire meal. Food was okay. Two people got fried chicken and said it was good. Two of us got the impossible burger and it was not very good. Had high expectations for the restaurant because it was in Hotel Zaza, but missed the mark completely. Would not go again.
Great food and service!!!
Monarch was a lovely location for a pre-show dinner and short walk to the Miller Outdoor Theater concert. I would choose it again and recommend it to friends. Service was prompt, professional and friendly.
A few years ago we read good things about the Caesar's salad, we ordered it and really found many inconsistencies with it. Although you could tell the dressing was made on-premise, the square-cut lettuce tasted just like the ones that come in a bag. The leaves lacked moisture and the edges weren't freshly cut which took a lot away from the overall dish. The rest of the food was what I consider average even a tad below average considering and depending of who you compare it too. The Bloody Mary at the bar was made with a horrible commercial mix that was ghastly to say the least. They need to strive in making their restaurant be above your typical hotel chain restaurant. Service was surprisingly good given the fact that the servers looked and talked as if they were about to go night clubbing. Overall it was ok but not something to write home about which is something they should aspire to. The hotel Sorella in Houston's West side for example has an excellent restaurant inside of it. One of the Monarch's managers should go there to see how it's really done.
