Ristorante Mona Lisa, in San Francisco, serves classic Italian dishes crafted with top-quality local and seasonal produce in its charming and welcoming eatery. The saute di cozze e vongole clams and mussels in tomato garlic sauce and the garlic bread with cheese make delectable and sharable appetizer options. Some of Ristorante Mona Lisa's specialty entrées include the bisteca Maria sista steak in gorgonzola sauce, the chicken San Francisco with tomatoes, artichokes and olives in a white wine garlic sauce and the salmone al cartoccio with mussels, shrimp and clams in pink sauce. A large selection of pasta dishes are also available. Popular options include the fettuccine Mona Lisa with ham and mushrooms in cream sauce, the crab ravioli granchio in tomato sauce and the cheese lasagna al pesto.
Ristorante Mona Lisa's pizzas, like the diavola with spicy pepperoni and the Maurizio with pesto and oregano, are simply divine.
We love going to Mona Lisa every time we are in San Francisco. The staff is very friendly and the owner seems to always be there at the dinner hours. The food is very good Italian fare and the portions are abundant. Mona Lisa is the restaurant we always suggest to family and friends.
Always a fun old school italian place to visit
Eggplant was breaded and frozen , as it tasted like freezer burn or very stale bread crumbs. Too thin and like leather. The spinach, sauce etc was delicious, but couldn't get past the terrible eggplant.
Great service, appetizers were great. Main course just was ok, seafood dish not allot of flavor. Wife got ravioli and not great.
Great service though, and apps great..
I would consider again but would try all the other spots around there first.
The best Italian food in CA.
Our service was great and the food was like you were going to your mom's home . The food was very authentic and tasty!
Our hotel recommended Mona Lisa and my spouse loves great Italian food. Where we live there aren't any great Italian restaurants.
We arrived and we sat right away because there was barely anyone in the restaurant. We all figured out what we wanted to eat. When the waiter came over we gave him our order and I asked about a chicken dish, he said it was just okay. I then struggled to find something else to eat. I don't eat pasta or carbs so I settled on the GF pizza.
Our food came our pretty fast and I bite into the pizza and the crust was awful and not cooked. I tried to flag the waiter down but no luck. I got up and carried my pizza to the front and told another waiter and the hostess/owner?
They took the pizza and made it warmer but it was still disgusting.
After a while, our waiter came over and I told him that the crust didn't taste right still. He asked if I wanted something else and I said no thank you.
The bread that they give you to start with was stale. My spouse said this place wasn't good and we should have gone elsewhere.
I complained to our hotel and one person said he never recommended Mina Lisa.
If you go, good luck!
Mona Lisa was absolutely amazing. From the authentic Italian dishes to the warm and friendly owner. Everything was great. Can't wait to return!
Third time at Mona Lisa in SFO and as always you are welcomed and seated by the owner. Great locations on Columbus on trolley line and close to the wharf.
This was our 4th visit. It used to be our "go-to" Italian restaurant when we visit SF. First time - awesome. Second time - same trip - still awesome. Third time - another trip - huh? what happened - maybe an off night - 4th time - food just fair, - nothing special - like time #3.
Oh well. need to find a new local favorite.
This is by far the best Italian food you will find anywhere, I am a full blooded Italian and I travel one hour by Bart and 1/2 hour on foot to get to this place at least once every month or so. The menu is huge so look at it online or you will go nuts sitting at the restaurant. The Lasagna is to die for the pasta de mare is wonderful the service is lovely and the ambiance is great.
This restaurant served my entree then 10 min later served my husbands. My soup tasted like canned soup. My husbands food had obviously been microwaved because it was too hot to eat for 10 to 15 min. Our server seemed
clueless. Between the poor service and poor quality of the food I would never go back.
We ate at Mona Lisa. The spaghetti Bolognese was delicious as well as the complimentary Bruschetta. The Chicken picata was a little chewy, not sure what kind of chicken it was. The atmosphere is old school Italian which was nice.
Mona Lisa is located in a great area of North Beach. They have a few tables outside you can dine and people watch ...which is always fun! The ambience inside the restaurant has a great vibe and has that cool old world Italian look. Their food is very good and authentic. I've eaten here a few times and the portions are not overly generous but I feel you get what you pay for. If you're concerned that you may only be eating Italian one night while in San Francisco, Mona Lisa is a sure bet. You will have a good dinner. Just don't be in a hurry because the service, from my experience has been a little slow
Some fellow travellers recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The seafood risotto and veal dish were exceptional. Service was friendly and efficient. Would defintely return.
Thanks for being so accommodating of our large group - loved the appetizers and desserts!
Took about 15 minutes for the waiter to acknowledge us, then another 10 to take our order. Despite the food being good the tension between the cooks, wait staff and hostess was palpable.
I go to a restaurant for the food and the food at Mona Lisa was FANTASTIC. I want to go back now. The space is small and I expected it to be noisy for a group of people who are hard of hearing, but we found the noise level was low. Thoroughly enjoyed the time spent and the quality of food. The service was strong. Not just one person took care of us. I felt the entire staff was looking out for us. I will return and bring many others to Mona Lisa. Compliments to all and especially the chef.
Food and service were fabulous. Great neighborhood gem! We will defiantly return our next time in San Fran!
The service was slow and the Lasagna sauce was very salty. We were there for our anniversary while on vacation.
My boyfriend and I went out for a lovely date night out in North Beach and we're pleasantly surprised by this little spot. The décor is kitschy, but the food is wonderful. If you're looking for a slowed down and delicious meal, this is the place to go.
We went for our 40th wedding anniversary travelling from the UK. We had previously found this restaurant when we visited San Fransisco for our 25th wedding anniversary. It didn't disappoint.
We had a delightful dinner with our two teen-age granddaughters. They chose Mona Lisa, having dined there once before. The food and service were excellent. We'll plan to go again the next time we are in San Francisco!
Excellent food, very extensive menu to satisfy all tastes. Nice wine list and conveniently located. Very nice Italian spot in SF.
Great surprise. Very authentic food. Great glass of wine.
I love the fun Italian decor of this place – it encompasses all aspects of Italy in one Italian restaurant. I definitely would return to try more dishes when I return to the area. The caprese and prosciutto wrapped melon were great. Three people in our party got spaghetti and said it was excellent and one person got Chicken Piccatta and I got the Gnocci Sorrentina which was fabulous. Everyone loved their meals. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable and a big pour."
We had a great time. Our server was Italian and very nice.
Good food overall and extensive list of wines (but not cheap).
The wait was worth it because the food was amazing. I ordered the risotto and my husband ordered the lobster ravioli and I was eating from my plate and his. Both were delicious. Make sure to make a reservation, because the wait line is very long.
Last night in San Francisco. Enjoyed our dinner but service was not up to par....
I love Mona Lisa. The food is wonderful and the staff is charming, friendly and efficient. We have been there many times because sit is a favorite of my son, who loves to practice his Italian with the waiters. They are very appreciative and always give us complimentary antipasto. Wonderful place - I will go there as often as I can.
We happened upon mona lisa and were very pleased with this place in "little italy
Excellent, excellent service. My sister and I celebrated her birthday at this restaurant on Friday, May 13, 2016 and had such a wonderful experience. From the welcoming and lovable staff, to the gorgeous views of North Beach, the entire experience was perfect.
I am Italian, my mother was born in Italy, we know good Italian food. This was terrible. What a waste of money. Don't go if you want authentic Italian food. All the sauces were the same, just mixed in with seafood or plain or meat.
Always a great time and great meal. Wine pours are always healthy! We love the Mona Lisa
Been here before and food always great just like this time. However, service was a little slow, tables crowded very close together and it was uncomfortably warm. Could not get comfortable. Food was very good, just couldn't enjoy it due to restaurant temperature and uncomfortable seating. Past experiences have been early dinners and lunch so maybe the 730 dinner time was the problem.
Enjoyed the sitting arrangements. We were escorted to a corner table with open window view of the street. Beautiful temperature outside.
May be the worst meal I've ever had. I'm convinced they were serving food other restaurants had realized was too old. Even worse, no one asked why I wasn't eating what they served. Just gave me the bill.
This wasn't a horrible meal, but it wasn't good either. We ordered the homemade pasta and didn't get the homemade pasta. They forgot the bread, there are too many tables and we got the one by the door. The server wasn't nice and wouldn't recommend any wine or something to eat.
We have been in the Bay Area for 17 years, living in the East Bay the entire time. To eat at Mona Lisa is a 60 mile round trip for us, not to mention the traffic, toll, and parking. We tried several other Italian restaurants, settling on them only because we didn't want to make the trip. We have eaten at Mona Lisa MORE than any other restaurant of any type in San Francisco, even more than our favorites at Fisherman's Wharf. What more do I need to say...
We will be moving out of state. This was our farewell to one of our forever favorites. We will sincerely miss them.
