Mon Ami Gabi - Reston Ratings and Reviews
Table was available upon arrival. Warm bread with cous cous was wonderful. Several selections available for our 12 yr old son. Wine paring for dinner was suggested. Waiter provided an excellent suggestion. Very nice dinner for our party of 4. Would dine here again.
Mon Ami Gabi in Reston Town Center was definitely an experience. From the beginning, the noise level in the restaurant was overwhelmingly loud. It was impossible to hear what was going on, and even the wait staff was yelling just so they could be heard. The food was good, the service--only so-so. It seemed as though they brought things out in batches. Even though I'd ordered 10 minutes before the table next to mine, they brought all four entrees (one for me, three for them) out at the same time. I saw my actual waiter only 3 times--when he asked me for my drink order, when he asked me what I was going to order, and when he delivered the check. Everything else was other staff!
Was shuffled off into what ended up as the kid's section, in the back ... super loud and totally unfit for a quiet romantic brunch! Geez.... even the service was juvenile ... had to ask three times for more coffee!! Guess if I wanted milk I could have had that faster! Am very disappointed in MAG ... it used to be a great, quiet, romantic place with a jazz group playing during Sunday brunch. Too bad ... I'll have to look elsewhere.
My fiancee and I went here for brunch for our anniversary... and the experience was perfect! Our server knew the menu and everything about the cuisine and the restaurant immediately. There was not a single question that he couldn't answer. We enjoyed a full brunch with mixed drinks, appetizers, meals, and a dessert to finish off... a few of them were recommendations made by our server, as we had never dined here before. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we would both gladly go back!
This was our first time at the restaurant. Loved the bread. My steak was great, my husband's was too rare, sent it back to the kitchen and it was burnt. The manager was very apologetic, my husband got another steak - and they took the fillet off the bill ($30.00) and we got a free dessert. Very classy establishment!!
Great restaurant ! Little crowded, making it noisy... The tables are so big (at least the 2 they put together along the booth wall) combined with the noise level makes it difficult to have a conversation across the table. The tables in the center of the room appear to be the right size...
we celebrated the birthdays of two friends at Mon Ami Gabi. I booked the reservations online in the morning for lunch later that day. In the reservation request, I included the fact that we were celebrating. To my/our surpise, at the end of the meal, the waiter brought out individual profiteroles (with candles) for all of us! Very thoughtful on the restaurant's part.
While the food was excellent our table was in the middle of the room with barely enough space between the other tables for the wait staff to get through. They were constantly bumping into our chairs while we were eating. Not sure if we would go back until the outdoor seating is open.
Very enjoyable evening. Wife's dessert was not as warm as we expected but the matter was rectified. Pleasant surrounding but perhaps a little frenetic for a truly romantic evening (it was valentine's so I suppose that was to be expected). Overall, however no compaints. We will return to try the brunch next..
This was my third time dining here. The food is good but the service could be improved. The first glass of wine I ordered was out of stock - unusual for a very common wine and for a restaurant the notes the wine selection as a special feature. No attempt was made by the waiter to suggest an alternate. I was surprised the waiter took plates as each of us finished instead of waiting for all diners to finish. Not what I expected. Also, dinner reservation indicated we were celebrating an 18th Birthday and there was absolutely no comment from the waiter. This information is available on the reservation and should be acknowledged by the staff. Not sure I would select this restaurant for a special occasion.
Excellent food and service! The waiter made some suggestions that where superb. We planned on going for dinner. We ended up having waffles and crapes that were out of this world! To give you an idea of the service, the table next to us had a very small baby that was fidgety. Mom and dad were doing a great job. When their meal came they first tried taking turns coddling the baby. One of the waiters came over and offered to hold the baby for a while so that they could both eat while the food was hot. He did a superb job giving the parents a break to enjoy their Valentine’s day brunch.
There was no wait with an open table reservation! Our waiter was superb, patient (it was our first time at the restaurant) and friendly. The only drawback - seemed like the tables are set way to close to each other - the room we were in could lose 4 tables and be much comfortable. Other than that it was an excellent brunch restaurant.
The lobster bisque tasted like broth with a slight lobster aftertaste, the salad was some shredded romaine lettuce and a crouton, and the filet fignon came with french fries, or steak "frites." The mean would have been acceptable if the wine selection had been decent. The wine list however offered no American options, it was all French. And let me tell you one thing, if you want to be a nice restaurant, you don't make Louis Latour your creme de la creme for your Mersault or Montrachets. Simply put, we went down the street afterwards and had great wine at a little wine bar type place. Oh, and on a saturday night and no sommelier? What's up with that- and on Valentines weekend! I can't see myself going here again, it just wasn't worth i
We enjoyed our meal and our attentive and entertaining waiter, Steph.
It's a nice French Bistro, but without the small, bistro feel - more like a chain. Thankfully, they put us in a quieter back room where we could hear each other, so we had no complaints. The lobster bisque was wonderfully rich and flavorful (but could use more lobster meat), and the steak was done perfectly. Nice place for a late night dinner in Reston Town Center.
