Mon Ami Gabi - Reston Ratings and Reviews
Family dinner for three. David, our waiter was fabulous ~ sensitive, not overbearing, very knowledgeable, allowed us to have a quiet intimate dinner. Artichoke appetizer had no flavor, and my husband's meal (beef) was well overdone. We made a small comment and both were taken off the bill. The lamb shank was fabulous, as were the kale salad appetizer and the soup of the day. Manager came out to speak with us frankly about the meal, and invited us back. Good experience overall.
The food was excellent
Our server took quite a while to get to our drink order after we arrived. The server that brought our charcuterie platter literally dropped it and ran, and no one explained what anything was on the platter.
We were seated next to the group room and as a result, we were constantly trying to avoid large platters of food being brought in and out of that.
Could have been much much better in terms of service however the food was excellent.
Mon Ami Gabi is a great favorite of ours. Very good food - the lunch salmon was terrific. Good value with their active couponing program, nice Sancerre wine, and super desserts. I particularly like the mushroom soup along with the great crusty bread. The only downside is that the restaurant is somewhat noisy - so it's hard to hear the people across the table. Very nice staff that have been there for years.
1.Little things rushed dinner unpleasantly, leaving few improvements'd be beneficial for both, so asked for MOD. A Spanish mgr volunteered to talk but no name exchange. When relaying the concern, he immediately cut off and started lecturing me on what service should be/how each staff should behave. He talked 20 min. and did I 2. Don't lecture what ideal service is to customer; obviously it wasn't happening under his mgmt.
2.He said there's record on me?? Now, Mon Ami profiles customers? of course the intent would be to serve better but 1. mgr tells the customer they keep record, and 2.because there's a record, he said he watched my table from the beginning to the end. So Mgr's personal attention over my table means 40 minutes of neglect? Is this manager telling me, he not only profiled me, but also watching me? and yet, let all those neglect happen? is that another his neglect or retaliation or simply he has no idea how to do his job??
3.He lectured me today that Bus-girl/boy do NOT take away finished dishes/silverware. They are only to do "pre-busing", and it is definitely not one of Bus-girl/boy's responsibility to assist and bus table for the next course of the meal and complete any task waiter delegated or relying on. I guess my school taught me wrong.
4.the manager said, the bus-girl does not speak English. and shortly after his lecture about ideal restaurant services, he defended the bug-girl is actually a waiter, not a bus-girl. So I can't quite complain about her not doing the bus-girl work. So, 1. why lie to defend her wrongs? then 2, as a customer, i do not care if she's a waiter or movie star. Even if she was a temporal busgirl, then my expectation was she does it well accordingly. If she was a waiter? then go wait a table. if she was a movie star? drop an autograph, not dish-clanking noises and rushing off diners, or extensive neglect to attend/bus the table.
I did talk to another manager, and I am sure he will talk to the owner and other staff.
We decided to check out the new fall menu. My husband had a fabulous Beef Wellington and I had an excellent Salmon. Our friendly, attentive waiter Everet, reminded us that it was Sunday and all bottled wines were half off.
Outstanding! The 3 very large profiteroles were so decadent and the perfect ending to our meal. Jedd, the manager was as energetic as ever bustling around making sure everyone was enjoying their dinner. We are locals and always feel at home at Bob Ami Gabi.
Because we had a coupon that was about to expire, we went to Mon Ami Gabi for an early birthday brunch. My husband likes their "make your own Bloody Mary bar" too. :) The crabcake eggs benedict were just ok -- mostly muffin. Our server was just that -- he served us and was attentive to our needs, but definitely not too friendly.
Service was wonderful. Both my niece and I got the chicken pot pie. Wow....best pot pie either of us have ever had. Lots of chicken and flavorful veggies and sauce. Only downside: we didn't have enough room for dessert! Thanks for a great dining experience Mon Ami!
This was a disappointing meal. The lamb chops were too salty, and the side dish was some sort of inedible potato gruel. This restaurant is owned by a chain in Chicago. It seems that they have too many MBA graduates from the Kellogg School and not enough culinary graduates.
We were looking forward to a great lunch. I ordered the prime steak sandwich and found it underwhelming, too much bread and very little portion of meat and felt that i didn't have lunch. We had requested a small soup with the salad and received a large, another colleague requested to have some things taken off her sandwich that was overlooked. Overall disappointed with our lunch.
