Mon Ami Gabi - Reston Ratings and Reviews
For the price of a filet mignon, which comes with French fries, I'd as soon go to Morton's down the street, where the side dishes are actual side dishes. The four of us ordered a side of Brussels sprouts for $9.95 and got a small dish - about 1/3 of a cup - of them, not even a standard serving for one person.
The service at Mon Ami Gabi never disappoints. I love the relaxed feel, especially for brunch. My quiche was flavorful and perfectly prepared. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable without being intrusive. My husband was very happy with his steak sandwich and we both adored the butterscotch pots de crème recommended by our waiter. I can't wait to return and would not hesitate to host a group at the restaurant.
This is was my 2nd time at Mon Ami Gabi Reston (I visited once before, but it was years ago), and I was very disappointed by the experience. My three friends and I were there to celebrate our friend's birthday, and two of us arrived before the other two. We had two waiters, and the first one (a young guy) put a loaf of bread in a bag and some carrots in a bowl on our table with no explanation of what the carrots were and no instructions about the bread. I had to flag him down to ask if we could have some plates for the bread, because he didn't provide any, to ask if we were just supposed to rip the bread into pieces (since there were no knives), and to ask what the carrot concoction was. He apologized and gave us an explanation and brought some plates. Once our other two friends arrived, it took about 10 minutes for either waiter to notice their arrival and to bring over more water glasses. Then it took an additional 10 minutes or so before they asked for our orders, and I had to flag down Hernan (our main waiter) in order to get him to come take them down. My scallops were amazing, but there were only 4, which was disappointing, especially for the expensive price of 27.95. I don't recall either waiter coming over to check in to see if we needed anything throughout the meal. At one point, I asked the 2nd waiter if we could have more bread, and he said yes, but he never brought any more.
When we first arrived, I asked Hernan if Mon Ami Gabi did anything special for birthdays, since we were celebrating my friend's, and he said they offered a free dessert. At the end of our meal, they brought out the correct one, but then they charged me for it. If I hadn't double checked the bill, I would have paid $8.95 for a dessert that was supposed to be free. Hernan also didn't ask if we were paying separately, so I had to ask him to go back and split the bill for us. Overall, it was a very frustrating and disappointing experience, and I don't plan on coming back.
This is a nice French bistro-style restaurant in Reston Town Center that provides additional diversity to the many other choices. The entree choices are very good and wines by the glass feature a number of fine French wines. Service is attentive and polite. Overall, a good choice for a night out in Reston!
We dine at Mon Ami Gabi frequently. The food is always excellently prepared and we enjoy the restaurants atmosphere. We recently celebrated our anniversary there and the staff went out of their way to accommodate the special requests I had made in in advance. Our server Steve is the best, genuine and unpretentious.
Been a long time for dinner at Mon Ami. We usually just do Happy Hour, a great value! We met friends for diner. Wife had the Boeuf Bourguignon, I the steak with red wine sauce and onions. Both were fantastic with large portions for take home. Our waiter provided a fresh loaf of bread for an excellent steak sandwich for the next day's lunch.
Great white table clothe, long white aprons on wait staff, tile floor and wood and brass restaurant. Yummy French standards, steak frittes, escargot and parpaillot filled with veggies for your vegan pals. Service is excellent. Reservations highly recommended for this popular bistro at Reston Town Center. I stay at the Hyatt Regency for holidays while visiting family and it’s a quick and pleasant walk by the ice rink and colorful Christmas decorations to this fun Bistro. Try the fresh croissants and cappuccino in the morning!
We had our traditional brunch after the Holiday Parade on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The restaurant was packed, but we had room at our table for 6. Service was great-attentive but not annoying. Everyone was happy with the food-for apps we had chicken liver pate and goat cheese w/ marinara, entrees were a variety of Benedict’s and a couple of burgers. Drinks ranged from water to bloodies to moscow mule variations. Prices are a little steep, but location, service, quality of food, and the nice decor make it worth it. Only suggestion is to have more appetizers that are not shell fished based, we had two people with allergies so we had to ask our server if they had anything else available, which they did.
So many restaurants try to pass themselves off as "French," and so few pull it off credibly. Mon Ami Gabi is authentic French, and doesn't try to Americanize the food or the service. Truly authentic French cuisine in an elegant yet casual setting and perfect service. Boef cooked to perfection per the customer's stated preference. Go here if you appreciate quality over quantity. So happy this restaurant is in Reston Town Center - I will probably eat every dinner there when I come back in May 2018.
Brett was our bartender/server at the bar. He was most enjoyable and attentive. I met my girlfriend at the bar and Brett suggested we dine at the bar, rather than in the diningroom. Very nice. Avocado toast was the special, very good. We split a salad and the salad came split already for us . . . .that's a plus.
Will be back . . . . .
The steak as always was quite good, cooked exactly as requested. The fresh warm bread is always appreciated plus little side dish brought with the bread. Unfortunately the frites tasted like they had sat under a warming lamp too long. The waiter wasn’t bad, just appeared uninterested in his job. He was pretty tall , when presenting the daily specials he kept looking out around the restaurant, rather than at his customers, so it was a little hard to hear what he was saying. It was ok, but have enjoyed the food and service which was more attentive in the past better.
