Mon Ami Gabe has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Reston, taking clients, friends and family and over the years....all have enjoyed their time there.
We made reservations and while the staff was a skeleton one, they tried so hard to please as there were only three other tables of diners. This stupid Covid-19 situation is killing the best part of civility and culture. The people who are making these broad based rules (which they do not follow) are going to be death of the restaurant business. My heart goes out to anyone that braves the masks, the drive and the empty restaurants to make a concerted effort to patronize them...they deserve it.
Food good as always. Restaurant has spaced out tables nicely for Covid. We went on a Sunday at 6:30 and there were only 2 other tables occupied. Too bad more people aren't out dining.
Family always enjoys our trips to Mon Ami Gabi. Only thing that was off was the ambiance and not their fault. The lively gathering experience was muted somewhat by the COVID requirements that we must all follow. Even with this, we plan to return soon.
The sauces on the steak were not wonderful. Not a ton of taste in the peppercorn or red wine. Steak was good quality. I would prefer the thin sliced frites but these were just regular fries. The service was amazing, just thought for the price the food was average. Covid precautions were excellent. They have hand sanitizers, everyone is wearing masks and they take temp. Seating was far apart...felt very safe. Mussels were really good and onion soup was great...pretty large serving.
Very good food, reasonably priced and good Covid protections! Open outdoor tent with good spacing.
All was great.
I eat here frequently for dinner and it is always great. This brunch was terrible, crepe was burnt. Ordered juice it never came. Waiter could not be understood and was not helpful.
Mon Ami’s French martinis are the best around ! So glad the restaurant added the tents and out door heaters so I can continue to visit . Food is always great !
First time visiting and it was memorable. Service and food was excellent and the desert was a WOW. Will eat here again.
As usual, very good meal and dining experience. Only regret is the current lack of chocolate souffle as a dessert option that will hopefully return eventually.
Birthday lunch. Outside dining. Impressed with all covid safeguards.
Another good evening at Mon Ami Gabi. I like that they're taking advantage of outdoor dining for distancing - and that the wait staff was excellent. The food was great as usual.
We were celebrating our recent wedding. Service was subpar and slow. Soup we ordered was cold and did not taste good. Drinks took a long time to get to the table. Mussels were delicious. The skate entree and steak frites classique were subpar. Our entrees were delivered literally one minute after our appetizer. We were really underwhelmed by the experience.
We had a lovely dinner outside on the patio in RTC on a warm November Sat. night.
Last Sat Nov 07 - My friend & I had an early dinner @ Mon Ami Abi in Reston.
We loved the French cuisine & the ambiance but the service truly was disappointing.
We had to ask 3 different waiters at least 2-3 times for everything otherwise we would just wait for awhile...simply- we get no service!
It was not that busy Sat. We sat outdoor. Anyhow- I would have given a 5 stars but I could only give a 3 to service! Chef deserves 5-STARS!!
I have been coming to Mon Ami for years and have always enjoyed my experience but this last visit I did. It. My server was not attentive at all. I had to request what the specials were and he really did not seem interested in assisting me. I ordered the filet with Bordeaux butter, one of my favorites and it wasn’t great. It seems as if management has changed as well but I hope this was a one time occurrence and not the new normal.
This is a great restaurant and they have been in business for years. The service was excellent. The food was very good although the menu is rather limited. The drinks were outstanding, made as order and definitely not diluted. Caesar salad and bone in ribeye were prepared to perfection.
Late afternoon reservation for a business luncheon. Service was good (was surprised crumbs were not removed from table cloth between courses). Overall good service and meal.
friendly, professional staff. Great food. Good value.
We always enjoy Mon Ami in Reston. Great management and service, solid and tasty food. It is our go-to place!
Great food, and my waiter Doug was wonderful! He made great suggestions and was very helpful!
Love MAG. . . But barely anyone was there. It is sad COViD dining these days. Food & service were great though
Wonderful restaurant. Hoping they get some heat lamps so that people can eat outdoors in the cold weather.
We came for an anniversary dinner. We requested outdoor seating and all the waitstaff did their best . Food was nicely prepared and served. I realize that all of the outside schlepping is a lot more work than inside. We enjoy the escargot and get them whenever we come.
Restaurant venue happens to be in one of the most sought after eatery spots in Reston. Great location, ok service, decent food.... nothing special.
We sat in bar during happy hour and it felt much like old times other than it was less crowded. Love their happy hour bar food and we enjoyed the escargot, French onion soup and salad plus cocktails.
Fresh and delicious the baguette was on par with what I get in Paris!! Attentive service and wonderful ambiance
We love our waiter! Just the best. And the food is always great.
Open table allowed me to make a reservation on a day they were closed.
This is my favorite restaurant and have only had excellent service prior to this meal. I made our reservation for a special birthday dinner well in advance. We were held up in traffic and I called to let the restaurant know and they were very cool about it saying to take my time and be safe. He did not state that we would lose our reservation or have to be seated at a different table. When we arrived, they set us in the side of the restaurant which is usually used for private events. I am all about location location. Sitting the birthday girl in a side room and not in the main restaurant was extremely disappointing. The restaurant didn’t even look very full so I’m not sure why we were not seated in the main dining area especially since we were there for a celebration. Not one single person said Happy Birthday to me. I say this because I have been spending my birthday at this restaurant since 2010 and have always been greeted with a Happy Birthday and a birthday dessert on the house. We also celebrate many anniversaries and special events such as Mother’s Day at this place. On Saturday, the manager walked around and greeted guests and changed the tv station to a college football game but not once did he come to our table. Our niece was a GM of a sister location and when we’ve dined before, they have gone out of their way to greet us. Our waiter never asked to fill our drinks and we felt ignored most of the evening. Our meal was just so so this night which is also very disappointing because it is usually absolutely amazing. Overall, we were very underwhelmed with our dining experience.
My boyfriend and I had the best experience at Mon Ami Gabi! Our server, Johanna, was so kind, attentive, and just helped make our experience. Not to mention, the food was absolutely spectacular — as always! I also definitely felt safe dining inside with temperature checks about arrival and far distanced tables. 5/5 stars! We’ll definitely be back :)
Great place for everyday, date, special occasions, business meals and meeting up with friends.
Great food and service. Sat out on the patio that was spaced out. Great, friendly service. We both had the specials that were fantastic. Will be back again.
The restaurant week menu provided great value! While the portions were small that's to be expected for restaurant week menus.
Joanna was awesome! She made a great wine recommendation and she is such a sweetheart. Great evening out in downtown Reston.
Our go-to restaurant for a great meal with friends.
Servers were quite attentive...overall a great dining experience.
We have been to Mon Ami Gabi many times before tonight. We go there each year to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Given the current environment we are all trying to navigate through, we were especially excited as we try to limit the amount of places we go. With that being said, we were underwhelmed to say the least.
To begin, when I had made this reservation, I had requested a specific table. When we arrived, I had noticed it was occupied. Ok, fine. It was a nice night so we opted to dine outside. Onto our server - completely and utterly disappointing. After he finally took our order, we had to wait for at least 30-40 minutes for a Caesar salad to come out. He passed by our table numerous times with not so much as a “let me go check on your salad.” Once our meals came out, thankfully they were everything we had expected (the food never disappoints). As we had finished up our meal, all we got was a casual passing by and “dessert?” Not even like a full stop to check in and see how our dinners were and then the offering of a dessert menu. Just super disappointing. If our server had paid just a bit more attention, we more than likely would have ordered another bottle of wine, dessert and would have tipped a bit better like we usually do. Hopefully our next experience is way better than what we had tonight.
We sat in an outside table that was comfortable and safe. The precautions taken for health protection are visible and very good. The waiter was attentive but the food took a while to arrive. Seemingly there was some confusion in the kitchen and things slowed down a lot, so the waiters were frustrated even if they tried hard to apologize, they were nervous and a bit erratic.
I've been dining at MAG-Reston for over 10 years, perhaps 2-3 times a year. I think it's a Covid-thing, but this particular evening just fell flat. It was the LEY chain's restaurant week. The quality of the hangar steak was okay, but not as good as in the past. Other items were quite good though. The service started as rushed then ended quite slowly and to us not as good as in the past, but again with restrictions, etc., these days it's hard to come down on restaurants trying to navigate the new [and hopefully shorter term] normal. The next time I try MAG, perhaps I'll give the brunch a try.
