Mon Ami Gabi - Oak Brook Ratings and Reviews
The food and service was good as always. We went for my wife’s birthday and were very disappointed that no one acknowledged her birthday or they didn’t offer any champagne or dessert. I had noted in the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and in the past Mon Ami Gabi has usually done a better job with recognizing special occasions. We like the restaurant but may look elsewhere in the future for celebrations.
Very slow service-we were there an hour before I was served my lunch. Others in my group
had good food but the soup was cool and had to be returned to be warmed up.
My lobster roll consisted of a very large bun, shredded lettuce and a tablespoon
of lobster for $19. I told waiter who took the $19 off of our bill. We were given
a dessert with birthday candle.
Mon Ami Gabi long a favorite. However, rather disappointed this time. "Dover Sole Meuniere" heavy, laden with far too much spinach and butter, and NOT Dover sole. This is a delicate dish of tradition. Suggest getting it right or taking it off the menu. Waitress was not well informed in manner of describing special items.
I’ve dined here a lot. The service is great and it’s a beautiful place. Food is generally very good. This past time though I ordered a steak medium rare, and it was cooked medium well. My friend who ordered her steak well done had a steak that was cooked less than mine at about medium.
My extremely picky teenage stepson was up from TN, and wanted to try some French food. I've only found 2 really great places for it (so far), And suspected he would love this one. I was spot on! We shared a country patè - and he thoroughly enjoyed it, much to my pleasant surprise! For our entrees, he had 'Chicken Grand Mere', and didn't finish it, only to save room for dessert - the dark chocolate, salted caramel tart, which was beautiful - rich, but not too sweet, and a latte. I had a small bowl of the lobster bisque, which was betty good, my 'usual' entree - the skate with pureed cauliflower, which I love, and for dessert, satisfied an insane (2week!) craving for bread pudding with the banana brioche bread pudding. It was well worth the wait! He's gone back to TN, but I'm now looking forward to visiting there with my husband again, very soon!
Husband and I took 27 year old son here on 12/24/17 for his birthday. This was our first time here. The food was very good even though son's steak was "blue". We didn't inform server because it would set us back from eating while waiting on a new plate. We plan on returning in the near future.
Christmas Eve tradition. Loved it, as usual. Only one exception, they have reduced the portion size of the smoked salmon. We’ve always split it between the two of us, but last two occasions there is only enough for one. No longer a reasonable value.
Christmas Eve festive atmosphere is wonderful at Mon Ami Gabi
