The Capital Grille - Chicago - Downtown
only few authentic French bistro left in chicago always consistent
Mediocre all around. Food was not anything impressive. Cute decor and charming. Uniforms are beyond dated and blah. Menu was basic. Just an uninspiring experience. Not memorable.
Our waiter was phenomenal! Respectful did not rush us out . The food superb .
The ambiance perfect for an evening out .
The trout is a must !
I thought the food was mediocre ordered trout and skate. The food was ok but the portions were very small. The Caesar salad was good along with the mushroom soup. Very small portions but kind of disappointed. Our service was great and had a very good waiter and bus boys. They were on their game.
What a treat to dine at this venerable bistro. Best steak frites in town.
A great place to celebrate a birthday! We will be going again for the Tour de France wine event.
Good ambience and atmosphere.
Food Ok bout not great. Too much salt in use by the chefs.
Great food and service
It was great food and friendly amazing service!
Celebrating our son and his fiancé Rebecca was just perfect for us. We had a delightful evening with her and will ask for Rebecca the next time.
Mon Ami Gabi is our favorite restaurant in Chicago. It is our go-to place for a wonderful dinner. My favorite entrée is their trout almondine and I order it with a side of frites. I highly recommend their desserts as well, especially their chocolate mousse, crème brûlée, or their salted chocolate caramel yumminess. We just celebrated our wedding anniversary there, and like always, enjoyed our time and left with happy memories.
Love this restaurant! Caesar salad is the best! Their wine selection fantastic and their salmon is amazing. The warm French bread and butter also a wonderful welcome.
the food as usual was outstanding, the classic steak frites and chocolate mouse are my favorites.
Wonderful experience! Food was exquisite; was introduced by staff to a new (local) gin for my G&T. All Chicagoans and visitors should patronize Mon Ami Gabi.
It is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. I don’t have any family here except my husband and daughter. We had friends join us. It’s so nice to have a full traditional holiday meal among others. Mon Ami Gabi does a beautiful job on all the Jewish holiday, such as Passover. They’re always wonderful, just for a good dinner anytime.
I was very disappointed in the food at the Rosh Hashanah dinner.
The chopped liver was not chopped but pureed like baby food
The gefilte fish was tasteless
The chicken soup was sweet
The kasha varnishka tasted bad
The tzimes was mushy
The main dishes were good.
The waitress was nice but she asked if we were there for the Rosh.
And when I asked for crackers for the chopped liver, she said they only have 'crackers ' on Passover
Our server Janet did an outstanding job!
Celebrated a birthday on a Friday night, so it was busy and loud. Food was very good.
Had gluten free menu, but server brought me NOT gluten free dish by accident, which is scary. what I had read online said they had GF bread, but none was offered. The server was very nice, but communication to the kitchen and to the person that delivered food didn't happen. Near miss on a ruined and sick night.
We feel encouraged to relax and trust the servers care about us having a pleasurable experience. Food is consistently good and prepared with beautiful and fresh ingredients. We are frequent visitors and never disappointed. Try the Scallops Gratinnie, our favorite appetizer. Bon appetite!
Out of town relative
One of our favorite restaurants in Chicago, so we always have to go when we’re in town.
I have been here before several times. Came for a friends bday, that i made mention in the reservation, although it was missed, most likely a one off. The food and service are always consistent, which is definitely why i always return. It says a lot about the restaurant, which is why i also recommend it. Smart dress code and great for any occasion
We took a friend and her husband out for a birthday dinner. It was perfect as always.
Nice concept in Lincoln Park area and food is decent but nothing to rave about.
It would be perfect if they lowered the audio system a little. I think that the onion soup is not only the best in town but better than most in Paris. We love coming here.
I love Mon Ami Gabi and usually visit once per year in the summer, and never have trouble getting a seat outside on the terrace, as I make a reservation for the hour they open. Unfortunately, they told us when we arrived that the terrace would be closed all day as there was a forecast for rain (yet it hadn't rained yet). We were disappointed, but sat at a table inside close to the terrace doors. Mid-meal the doors open and tables were seated outside. I was frustrated and disappointed about the message we received initially, and that we weren't asked if we wanted to be moved outside. It seemed awkward that we weren't approached about this obvious chance/misinformation.
Impeccable service! Kind and welcoming atmosphere from beginning to end. Cheers!
We got there early so we sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and entertaining. It’s a beautiful small place but you don’t feel packed in like some spots. The service was attentive and the food was delicious.
We had Cecilia, as our waitress! A lovely, fully experience staff member. It was our 22 year wedding anniversary and so were enjoying at slower pace our favorite neighborhood restaurant. She did not make us feel she wanted to turn the table over
My only regret, was that our most favorite waiter, John does not work Saturdays. I’ll get over my disappointment in not having him share in our celebration
Old friends in town who we had not seen for at least 5 years. I picked Mon Ami because of great experiences there before. They did not disappoint on any aspect. An old favorite.
Everything was cold. We sent the fries back because they were too cold. I felt too bad to send the fish back. It was delicious but cold. Inside it was very cold too. We were seated by the kitchen door which was not a good spot. We’d go back although it doesn’t seem like this is a good review. Lol
Wife 50th birthday
We have always liked Mon Ami Gabi, but had not made a reservation there in a long time. It was nice to return to find that the restaurant is a good as ever. Many of the staff have been there for years, the food and service remain very good and the atmosphere is perfect. We will return more often.
The food was mediocre and service was very, very slow. But it was lovely dining outside.
Very, very pleasant experience from start to finish. Had an extra person in our party, which the front desk was happy to accommodate. Service was fantastic!! There were five us, so we ordered a number of appetizers to share and all were tasty and very attractively presented. Ditto entries. A little noisy but a very charming space.
We were with our baby and they were very accommodating!
One of my favorite Chicago restaurants. I have never had a bad meal or service here.
Service was awesome. Food was fantastic. Great time!
