Mon Ami Gabi - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
Had brunch with my daughter. Various drink offerings - Kir Royal was nice but small. Daughter enjoyed the beer options. Duck confit with fried eggs, hash browns, and Brussels sprouts was very good and filling. The hash browns were fried as a hard patty - first time I had hash browns like this. It was crunchy but good with the fried eggs. Shared the bread pudding with bananas and caramel sauce. Reminiscent of the bananas foster crepe - which we miss very much. The salmon entree was excellent as usual. Service was spot on. A very nice relaxing meal at a good price.
We made a reservation to go after a movie. The show let out early so we were 30 minutes early, but they graciously seated us. We did not know it was restaurant week, but ended up ordering from the special menu because i5 had what we each wanted. The service was prompt but not rushed. The courses were well spaced. One of us had a salad, steak fritte and and creme brulee, the other had onion soup, steak fritte and profiterole. The food was well-prepared, the steak cooked to order and the soup, salad and both desserts were very good. The one food complaint we had was that the steak frittes were not hot when we received them. Otherwise, the tables were too closely spaced, but there was a crowd that night. We enjoyed ourselves, the place and the food!
Very busy, which resulted in unfortunate delay in food delivery. However, Ruben our server was incredible and more than made up for the delay with his sincere approach and empathy. Food quality was well worth the wait and overall experience outstanding. A definite favorite.
Wanted to take my team out for a 2017 celebratory lunch. We made reservations and went to the restaurant on the later side of the lunch rush. Arrived at the host station and while 5-6 wait staff stared and pointed at us, no one came over to greet us for more than 5 minutes. Finally, the host came from the back and seated us. We then waited another 10 minutes for our waiter to come by. The experience continued to go downhill from there; slow service, mediocre meal, and not really a warm/fuzzy that you expect when the restaurant is 1/2 full. My team member who’s worked in the area over the last 20 years commented at how great the place used to be, but everything was different now. We’ll pick another spot for our next celebration, as the restaurant didn’t assist in the celebratory vibe at all.
The steak and frites Bethesda Restaurant Week special was very tasty and well priced. I especially enjoyed the herb butter that came on the steak. My tomato bisque soup was very good. My wife’s salade maison was bountiful and fresh. The vinaigrette was undistinguished. The steak main course was nicely cooked.
The chocolate sauce that bathed the profiteroles was beautiful. The cream puff had nice crispness.
All in all a most enjoyable lunch.
Good, authentic, not-too-heavy French food. Our waiter got us in and out quickly before our movie even though the place was busy. Loved the Arctic char, but the Dover sole, a French must-have, was just okay. Something was missing and it was bland. The seafood tower is an excellent and fresh choice for a starter.
Had the same dishes as I did last year. What a downfall. Food was bad, and service even worse. Server took the salad plate I was working on, and placed the entree in front of me. You don't do that, even with a little child.
Where do they get these people from? Do they train them? Vulgarity and coarseness in behavior has permeated the restaurant scene now. Just eat at home.
Our filets were over cooked. We were told pink in the middle was medium well so that is what we ordered. Both of the steaks were over cooked with no pink at all. Very noisy in the back room. Service was average. I think they forget it was for a birthday..reservation on open table did say that, but we had to remind them it was a birthday at the end of the meal. Overall....ehhhhh!
Food was good, but we did have to send the French fry's back as they were greasy, limp and cool. We had to ask a second time where the new fry's were as we were almost done with our meals. The bread, which is to be served upon seating came after our meal was served. The service was a major disappointment! They did offer us a free desert or glass of wine, but the evening was already compromised and needlessly unpleasant. We will not be back as there are many better places.
Everything was terrific, starting with the best Cosmopolitan drink I've ever had. The four of us each enjoyed every morsel of our three-course dinner, prior to heading for the Landmark Cinema just a few feet away. My trout amandine was beyond delicious. The tarte tatin was scrumptious. I was truly surprised at the quality of the food and the delightful service, partcularly since the restaurant is so large. One suggestion: The by-the-glass wine list could have been more interesting and broader. Also, my pommes frites arrived lukewarm, but were quickly replaced by hot, scrumptious fries, with apologies from the waiter. These two remarks do not prevent me from giving Mon Ami Gabi a full five stars. We all intend to go back very soon!
Slowest service ever at Mon Ami Gabi. Reservations for 7:30 pm. Waiter didn't take our food order till 830pm....he kept disappearing .... I told our waiter that it was my daughter's bday at the start of dinner (when he finally took our order); he assured me saying "don't worry I will make sure there are candles on the dessert for her!....there were still NO CANDLES on her Profiteroles. And he claimed..."you didn't tell me it was her bday and patted me on my shoulder??" I'm sorry, but who the heck do you think you are to be so patronizing instead of simply apologizing, at that moment, that you forgot and would get the candles ASAP!.
I've been to Mon Ami Gabi many times for dinner, but never for lunch. Because I was in the area, I decided to take a friend there for her birthday. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the lunch I ordered, which was chicken crepes. The crepe was 'thick' and NOT hot at all. I think the waiter was annoyed that we did not order appetizers or desert. I could have sent my meal back, but did not. Dinners there have been good, but I have noticed that they have gone in their quality of meals....I think they assume they are popular enough that they don't have to provide the best meal in the area. They need to reevaluate this, because the area is opening quite a few good restaurants and Mon Ami Gabi will no longer be the 'to-go-place' in Bethesda!
