Eating at Mon Ami Gabi is reminiscent of many bistros in Paris. The restaurant aims to please and always does so. The offerings are plentiful and servers really aim to please.
I love MMG. It's homey, country French. Lots of yummy dishes and fun wines. Power Tip: Get on their text back list and get great free offers. And Free means Free. You could literally get the free item and a water and walk out. They would probably even throw in the complimentary baguette and butter every table receives. this week it was Baked Goat Cheese w/tomato sauce. Delish.
Food is consistently good. We ate dinner during restaurant week but didn’t order from the very limited offerings. Since I live close by, we eat here quite often. Service can be inconsistent but this time it was very good. The server was very pleasant and the support staff was careful when laying the plates on the table. However the server forgot to enter my LEY rewards - not a big deal, but inconvenient.
As a vegetarian I ordered the pasta and a salad. Very few options for a vegetarian. The salad was delicious; the pasta was boring and and had little taste. The portion was also pretty skimpy. Very disappointing. I have been there numerous times before and never had such a poor meal. The bread they bring however is delicious.
This was my very first time having lunch at a Mon Ami Gabi restaurant and I decided to give their $19.95 Power Lunch Menu a try since it appeared to be a good deal. The salad was excellent other than that it was too salty, but I still managed to consume all of it without having to let any of it go to waste. Salmon for my main dish was rather small - at most the size of my palm but it was pretty delicious. They had mixed berry sorbet and vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge for dessert, and I got the latter - it was pretty delicious, especially with melted fudge on top and accompanied by their coffee!
This would have been a 4-star review with my server, Brenden, having lots of nervous energy, delaying couple of my menu items and forgetting to bring my coffee refill in spite of me reminding him more than two times (I was having a late 2 pm lunch so the restaurant was not too busy at all). In spite of the fact that he did not state his name and I saw it on my check after receiving it, he was rather friendly and did his best to be attentive throughout until when I signed my check - he came by and proceeded to grab my check without asking if it was OK, while I am still finishing my dessert with coffee... I guess I have higher level of expectations at their Lettuce Entertain You restaurant groups but this was a first at any of their locations. What a way to ruin an otherwise decent lunch experience.
This was my third visit to Mon Ami Gabi, but my first sitting in the dining area instead of the bar. I prefer the bar area as the service is better and the waiters in that area are more personable. More importantly, I’ve never had a good experience at the hostess stand when arriving for my reservation. The first experience included a male (not sure if he was manager at the time or not) telling me that 20 people passed by with coats in the last 30 minutes and he did not notice if one fit the description I gave. I only gave a decscription because he insisted that he had already sat my party. This was confusing being that the reservation was in my name! Details were given to help sort out the situation. Once he figured out that he had not sat my party, he said the reservation had been canceled because no one checked in. Had I been alone, I would have left, but our party of 3, found a table in the bar area and made the most of it. During my most recent visit, I checked in for my reservation and the hostess, without looking up said that my party had been seated, I should walk to towards the back and they were seated on the right, I couldn’t miss them. If you don’t have enough people on staff to escort me to my table appropriately, perhaps you should hire more people. Lastly, the waiter seemed to be overwhelmed, the table next to us had an issue when paying. Our food was mediocre and it was as if someone was hovering over our table to pick up the dish as soon as we finished. My recommendation, sit in the bar area if you must go!
One of my favorite restaurants and usually consistent, service wasn’t particularly good on this day and I don’t think it’s the waitresses fault. Our plates weren’t cleared quickly or table wasn’t cleaned in between courses, it had crumbs. Our appetizer was delayed and didn’t come until right before our meal, which they noticed the mistake ( perhaps forgot the appetizer) and held the meals back as the temperature of the meals wasn’t hot; and three other tables sat down after us got their meals before us. The food is good, only place where my husband loves to order steak frites and my child eats the mashed peas (and doesn’t realize he’s eating a vegetable). It must of been an off day, bus boys just weren’t helpful to the waitress. This is one of those restaurants you can expect consistent quality and rely on the menu to not change your favorite dishes.
I have been to Mon Ami Gabi many times and never disappointed.
Very lazy restaurant week menu. And no more seafood platter on the menu. Double disappointed.
I work in Bethesda and have always enjoyed lunch here. This time it was reserved for a friend's birthday but no one there observed it from my reservation which was disappointing. My other complaint is it took far too long for a waiter to come to our table after being seated. I had Croque Monsieur and French fries. She had French Onion Soup and Steak Frites, all of which were very good, not excellent. Our French martinis and the fresh baguettes made us not notice as much. Under par but still worth a very good French dining experience.
We went for Bethesda’s Restaurant Week and were impressed with the dishes we ordered. The food was prepared perfectly (including delicious salmon which had crispy edges yet was moist and delicious). The profiterole dessert was sublime. We look forward to returning for a pleasant weekend lunch before catching a movie next door at the Bethesda Row Cinema.
Fries were cold and very dry. The whole dish was not too hot.
Five of us had a fun lunch and 3had a tasty lunch. Two of us had the lobster roll that was much more celery than lobster. Not tasty and definitely not worth the price. Only other hitch was confusion over the Lettuce promotion offers that were not given. On the plus side both birthday guest received a tasty desser t.
Five stars! If you could create a room for quiet conversation, it would be five-plus stars!
Unfortunately after hearing such great things about this restaurant, our party of five was very disappointed with our overall experience. Service was average, food came out lukewarm at best (artichoke appetizer was undercooked, fries were hardly warm, and the macaroni side dish was clearly not reheated to the appropriate temperature), and for the price I’d recommend going elsewhere. The best thing about our evening was my husband’s experience with the handcrafted cocktails. If you insist on visiting, grab a drink at the bar and eat elsewhere.
Food was disappointing.
Took my wife for her birthday and it was a delightful experience. Great service, awesome food, and the wine was amazing. Highly recommended for those seeking an authentic French dining experience.
Dining at this neighborhood gem is always a pleasure! Excellent food served by staff who seem to genuinely care about providing a terrific dining experience. Thanks!
Love going to this restaurant - service is always good and the food is presented timely and exceptional in that it taste good! Recommend this again and again. One of my favs in Bethesda.
Our third visit to Mon Ami Bethesda, and exactly the same as our previous evenings, the food, service, and overall experience were terrific. Be sure to order the French Manhattan (or two).
I had very nice oysters and the quiet environs lend to good conversation. The server last time was charming. The server I had on Saturday never brought bread, never asked how the food was, didn’t refill water, and didn’t ask if I wanted more wine.
Unfortunately the service was quite bad. Our waiter was obnoxious and impolite. The meal I ordered, a cheeseburger, tasted nice for a brassiere and it was done as requested. That said the the food itself was not bad at all but service needs improvement.
Always enjoy an evening at Mon Ami! Service was not up to par, but still a very enjoyable dinner.
Loved the jazz trio--excellent clarinetist. Food was delicious and reasonably priced.
The chef has wavered from the original menu and taste/food preparation. The Caesar salad was awful as was the house salad . Spices were added which took away from the original taste
Which was what made Mon Ami Gabi so famous and appealing.
We brought our out-of-town friends for dinner and they were wowed. Everybody loved the food and the ambiance. Highly recommended.
Hostesses were very rude but our waitress was very nice. Food was okay, nothing amazing.
Food was good, as always. Waiter was excellent. Very nice and very knowledgeable.
Our waiter was OK, but he needs to work on his English. I'm glad that he has the opportunity to work here and I respect his hard work, but it was difficult to understand him.
The restaurant needs a few more umbrellas in the front if they are going to use that great sidewalk space for tables. Two more umbrellas is a small investment to encourage guests to visit. Many people were clearly uncomfortable in the early evening sun.
Mon Ami Gabi never disappoints. The food was delicious as usual, and although the service was a little slow, my family and I had a great time.
Server was super nice and food came fast and it was delicious as usual!
I love all there , place , music, food , attendant’s 👌🏻
One of my go to special event places
Very reliable food and service. A good place for a group of friends to dine
This restaurant is much too noisy. We were a party of six and it was impossible to hear the conversation across the table and in some cases what the person next to me was saying. The food was mediocre as was the service. It definitely was not worth the $73 I paid.
Absolutely the worst coffee in any comparable restaurant. I have been eating at Mon Ami Gabi for years. The restaurant accommodates my desire for a special salmon on a bed of spinach. Lovely. But the coffee is awful.
The server was very helpful. The place is nice. Life band at diner time. Workers look and act professional. They treat you with respect.
Traffic made us about 15 minutes late for our reservation but the host was very forgiving. Unfortunately, this gave us exactly one hour for our lunch before catching a movie. Our server was warm and cordial without being too present. He made sure our lunch flowed on schedule so we could depart in timely fashion. The food was yummy and prices reflected the usual prices for the Washington DC suburbs. We will definitely go back to Mon Ami Gabi.
this is the 4th Mon ami Gabi that I have very much enjoyed over several years. The service is excellent. The selections of delicious french meals on the menu are exceptional. From the Mussels and Frite to the escargot for an appetizer. The salmon appetizer is also delicious. with the Skate as the main course.
Fresh French bread and the cheese plate. Bon Appetit!!
