Best French food in the area, especially escargot, onion soup, and steak. Outdoor seating is first-come, first-served so on a weekend I recommend arriving before the noon rush as tables do fill up!
Warm outdoor, vented tent was great for afternoon lunch.
The food was not as good as expected, given that we have been to this restaurant several times over the years. We may not go back before long.
Won’t be back...
Service was great, food was the usual, hate they discontinued
Béarnaise sauce with the steak frites.
Reason I won’t be back, they have a 4% Covid charge. Now charge for everything including the bread and butter. Overheard the manager speaking to another patron and he stated, they have actually done very well this summer, the rent was decreased they have lower staff costs and they’ve been busy. Even clearly stated they are more then profitable. Yet they charge a COVID fee of 4%. This is unforgivable, and I will not be back.
We had dinner there to celebrate a special birthday; the dinner was lovely and our server was fantastic.
As usual, another great experience at Mon Ami Gabi - Bethesda. Our server, Gregory, was excellent! I will ask for him the next time I’m dining there. The menu has been “streamlined”, however the steak frites are available as well as the French onion soup. One of my favorite items that didn’t make the COVID-19 cut is the Bananas Foster, I hope it comes back once the pandemic is over. The Mussels Mariniere were not as good as usual; they were not hot and that could be due to the serving vessel and the outside environment. Due to COVID-19 precautions the street in front of the restaurant (Woodmont Ave.) is closed to automobiles and is being used for al fresco dining. Wonderful experience, this should be a permanent change. It would be a great pedestrian parkway with restaurant table service. Bon appetit!
Food was great. Service was great. Enjoyed our meal outside.
Outside on a beautiful day with a friendly, efficient waiter!
Service was great but construction next door was very loud. Salad was average. Decaf way too strong!!
Always awesome. Love this place. Our first restaurant experience with both granddaughters. We stop for lunch every time we’re here from South Dakota. Very accommodating and always ready to please.
Our server was outstanding and the food is always consistent which is why we keep coming back!
My friend and I had yet another great experience at Mon Ami Gabi in Bethesda, MD. Our server, whose name alas I can’t remember, was the perfect combination of professional, friendly, and informative. I’m a sucker for their delicious and garlicky escargots. We each ordered their truffle butter and brie burger rare and, not only was the burger cooked perfectly but the brioche bun was sturdy and held up to the juicy burger. Dessert was their signature profiteroles (ice cream not pastry cream) for my friend and delicious, creamy chocolate mousse for myself. Mon Ami Gabi has lovely outdoor tables which is great during this pandemic, though I’m not sure how they will winterize them. Inside, the tables were well socially distanced and I appreciated how they took my temperature remotely when I arrived. I have been a regular there for at least the past 15 years and there’s a reason for that. Merci Mon Ami Gabi!! 🥖🥘🍷👍😀
Very disappointed in the service. Bread was too hard, should not have to pay for the bread and butter. Slow as molasses service. Had to get up and get my plate for the mussels, there weren’t many mussels in the shells. Salmon was hot and good.
Have been going for over 10 years and it is our favorite.
Distance, kitchen closed at 9.00pm. My first time since March. Will come back
The food was great, I personally recommend the Bordelaise Steak and a side of the mashed potatoes. Very well worth it!
Food and service excellent. Merci Beaucoup 😊
Excellent food and nice to sit out in the warm weather
The waiter was hard to find. My med. rare filet mignon was medium. Really you have to pay for the bread and the 4% surcharge for COVID was ridiculous. I have not been to another restaurant who had the surcharge. Good bye Mon Ami Gabi. You used to be my favorite restaurant in Bethesda.
Had a really lovely 30th birthday dinner date for a friend last weekend, taking full advantage of the outdoor seating. Our waiter gave an excellent sparkling rosé recommendation and offered to split our mussels into separate orders so that we wouldn't have to share food, and everything was delicious. The sidewalk ambiance was also lovely! They've done a great job with the transition to expanded outdoor dining and I would 100% go back.
Neighborhood favorite - my husband and I usually go alone but we brought our little ones (18 months and 3.5) and the restaurant was great bringing little snacks immediately and their food right away. Doing well with COVID, nice outdoor setting - and steak, as always, was amazing!
Lovely dining outside on a beautiful day
Best place to go for a steak, salad, and solid French bistro fare. I've never had a bad meal at MAG.
wonderful service and the food was delicious, as always
Celebrated friend’s birthday. Waiter we very patient as we were
The food at Mon Ami Gabi is consistently good. They are still serving the full menu and have a three course pre fixe luncheon menu. The service was prompt and sitting outside was rather pleasant. We plan to repeat if the days remain warm enough to eat outisde.
Service was a little slow, but friendly and fine. Though, that they charge for bread and add a 4% covid surcharge to your total is what put us off. I get that the government shutting down businesses affects many owners, but the two other local French restaurants (and many others non French ones too) we've visited since March of this year still give free bread and do not add a covid fee.
In fairness, the covid fee is clearly marked on the bill and it states the customer can ask to have it removed. However, who wants to do that in front of their guests, as they are trying to finish what should be presumably a nice meal? If they really want to add a covid fee, MAG should make it an opt-in vs an opt-out.
As for the food, it wasn't great and it wasn't awful. It felt like a Bennigan's for quasi-French food. The Caesar salad (see? Not quite French) was ok, but not impressive, i.e., store bought dressing vice actual Caesar dressing. The steaks were cooked to the right temperature, but very thin. We were comped a dessert, thanks to a coupon. It was vanilla ice cream on some type of puff pastry and topped with chocolate syrup. It was a very appropriate finish to our meal.
So, in the end, I think we visited MAG for our first and only time. The two extra fees and the average food weren't for us. That said, if I were with a friend who loved this restaurant and really wanted to go, I'd still accompany him.
This evening was extremely beautiful on a lovely fall evening. Tim, our waiter, was kind, thoughtful in his recommendations, and aware if and when we needed anything. Thank you for a wonderful evening out; even during a pandemic.
Love that you offer a lot of outdoor seating. Though heat lamps may be in order. I was surprised by how busy the inside of the restaurant seemed when I passed through. The steamed artichoke was delicious and the steak frite was top notch.
Our waiter Mike was the best.
One comment , I wish MonAmi had a better selection of Sancerre wine and other wine selections were thin.
Best burger I've had in years.
It was a wonderful evening! Everything was great.
The waitress rushed us and was very unfriendly. I asked for light cheese on my salad and when it was brought out I asked the server about it (because it looked like heavy cheese). His response was, “I don’t know I would have to remake it.” When the waitress brought out the new salad she slammed it down and kept moving. She would hear me calling her for things like dressing and keep walking, to the point I had to just ask the hostess for things. I wouldn’t go back.
Everything was great, but the number of mussels in the appetizer order was pretty paltry. Pot wasn’t even half full!
We keep coming back... The set up created by the Streatary on Woodmont allows for large tables with ample distancing, the staff wears masks and gloves, the service is prompt and always super courteous. Our server was always available if we needed anything, without hovering...
Food is delicious. There were three of us, appetizers were escargots (yummy) and mussels. Then I have the steak au poivre with French fries, my husband had the steak bordelaise and our guest the chicken grand-mère. Everything was delicious. We also ordered a side of garlic spinach (my favorite) and one of sautéed mushrooms. We were served quickly yet without feeling pressed. And of course the fresh baguette is a must-have. Fresh, warm and crispy, perfect with all these delicious yet light sauces.
Definitely a winner. We are looking forward to our next visit.
My only regret is the disappearance of the skate wing from the menu. I hope it will be back soon!!
We were delighted to finally be eating once again at Mon Ami Gabi. Next time we will look at the menu online before coming. (We can't see the menu very well on our phones and felt rushed by the waiter to make a decision.)
May Mon Ami Gabi be able to continue to serve outside as the weather gets colder. We will return!
Such a good experience! The food and service were on a high level. The street music was a pleasant surprise.
They are doing a fantastic job during these crazy times.
The staff is excellent adjusting to everything.
The food is great as usual and feel very comfortable eating there.
We had an outside table along the side of the restaurant which was quiet, not near others and very pleasant. The food was as always good but the menu is much more limited than before Covid 19. Also we greatly miss Happy Hour and its specials. If you are ordering mussels to eat in house or for take out make sure you know if they are bringing you the appetizer portion for $15 or if they bring you an "entree" portion which you then discover costs $30.
Our waiter Gregory was terrific and helped us select the wonderful cream of mushroom soup for starters. The food is great and it was terrific to eat in the expanded space outdoors
