Mon Ami Gabi - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
- My duck was good, large portion, but came very slowly and the server defended the kitchen.
- When asked to pack away the left over for a bit later, the server probably misheard & took away all my food to pack...
- Later I discovered that the green beans were cooked in butter, as the grease solidified in the fridge. WHY can't they cook in vegi oil???
This is our go to restaurant when friends/family come to visit. The atmosphere is great and the food is consistently good, especially the desserts. The service is on the slower side but on the other hand you never feel rushed. I wish there was more than just the one vegetarian dinner entree option, but overall I recommend this restaurant highly.
Server was not very attentive. We didn't even realize there were specials until our server was doing his spiel at the next table. Also our used dishes and bottles kept building up on our table without staff clearing them. The food was pretty good although the steaks were thin cut.
Very much enjoy Mon Ami We had the seafood platter and the food was delicious. Oyster immaculately fresh. Lobster perfectly prepared. Chicken liver is fantastic. Service seemed to focus on males at table which was a bit awkward. Otherwise an excellent late lunch.
Always a favorite of ours. Frisée salad was delightful with a perfectly poached egg, Filet au poivre was cooked exactly to order and the Dover Sole special was delightful. Our waiter was very knowledgeable regarding the wine and looking forward to returning soon.
Our waiter was Reuben who was from Argentina. He gave us very attentive and enjoyable service. The food was just right, as was the wine, and the table was a quiet one, as we requested. This is as close to a Paris bistro as anyone is going to get within a thousand miles.
We were a party of four, family friends. My dish was the seafood crepe, one of my favorites in this restaurant, and it was excellent, a dish I recommend. I would have opted for dessert, poire belle helene, which was listed on a black board on the wall but it turns out they used to have it, no more, and the board is merely "decoration!" A foolish move on the part of an otherwise very good restaurant. Service was very good.
We went there for our anniversary. The restaurant was energetic, vibrant, fun. We got a corner booth...the room was smoking hot...I was in a sweat all night. Our waiter was good, but inexperienced. I would recommend the restaurant. The value was good and the food was also very good.
Went back to Mon Ami Gabi after a movie. Seated outside but the service--not only our server--was haphazard. Very different both from other visits and others dining at the same time. Bread came out only after 3 requests, our dinners took far longer than people who ordered long after we did. When it came we were very happy with our choices, but the service was unexpectedly, as said above, haphazard.
This place is usually a hit or miss. Unfortunately, tonight was a huge miss and with how things seemingly operated, I don't foresee an ounce of improvement in sight.
The hostess who seated us seemed like she didn't want to be there. She had a nonchalant attitude as if she couldn't care less if we sat on the ground. Then we had to wait about ten minutes after we were seated for the waiter to come and greet us.
The waiter wasn't interactive, I perceived him to be insincere and didn't care much at all about his job. He used the same vocabulary for every type of fish. Not all fish is "not as meaty or flaky".
Finally when we got our food, mine came out ok since I got the steak au poivre. However, the mussels were full of sand and as rubbery as the tires on my car. The side, ratatouille, was stonecold. Needless to say, we asked for the manager. The waiter came back first and asked us how everything was, when we told him about the issues, he offered to replace the entree, which did not sound appealing at all. As we did not want to get the same food with added bodily fluids. When the manager finally made his way over, he abruptly asked us "What's wrong?" This alone implicates that the place is under poor management. He lacked sincerity or genuineness when he spoke with us. He seemed like he didn't want to spend an extra second speaking with us about the issue and brushed us off.
I haven't been to a decent restaurant that didn't invite the guest back or sincerely tried to make amends after an incident such as this one. I can only see this place going further downhill moving forward.
Mon Ami Gabi is a very good 'go-to' restaurant as the food is predictable and very good. The kitchen was VERY delayed in getting out our order on Weds evening...it was not the waiter's fault. It was our anniversary and they brought a profiterole, which was very nice.
My friend needed a "happy moment" in her difficult week and she was looking forward to spending a relaxed lunch time with me. We had a great lunch mussels and salad.....with plenty of bread, talked for two hours and asked if we could relax outside at our table. The wonderful waitress filled our water glasses and told us we could stay as long as we wished!
A great afternoon chez MON AMI GABI!
Disappointing food, not up to usual standards. Willing to try again on a night other than Sunday. Caesar salads wilted lettuce, unremarkable dressing & presentation, fries not crisp, overall average food (salads a bit below).
Excellent server and drinks, back room conducive to conversation.
The beef, which is a specialty was the best of the entrees. The salads were all overdressed and soggy. The service was inattentive, but it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. We have eaten here many times, but this Saturday just seemed to be an off night to other visits. I will give it another try, but if it again disappoints, then I would probably not return.
Loved our date night at Mon Ami. We've always passed the restaurant while in Bethesda but this was our first time in and we will be back! Had the amazing service of a British server, Joe, who recommended all the best dishes and was a true delight. We went with his recommendation on the Profiteroles for dessert and boy was he right! So good!
