Mon Ami Gabi - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
I celebrated my birthday here with my son. The service was great, very attentive, made me feel special. The server was very nice and friendly. I always had a great experience with service whenever I come here. The food was delicious too, esp the porfiteroles!:-)
My wife and I dined at Mon Ami Gabi for a belated Valentines Day dinner. We were seated right away, our waiter was friendly and always available and the menu had lots of options that we both loved. The food was fantastic and the service was spectacular. They had something on the menu I always wanted to try called the beef Wellington and it was delicious. My wife had the hanger steak which I tasted and I will probably get next time I go. We shared the mussel appetizer and the goat cheese salad and we both got yummy desserts. I will definitely be back.
Great ambiance; good service; gourmet food; delicious bread; great dessert; however they serve ALMOST NO VEGETABLES WIT THE ENTREES; with my trout amandine I got a few pieces of green beans; of my two other friends who ordered salmon dishes, one got very few tasteless white beans (by the way green and white beans should be served with meat not fish), my other friend got no vegetables at all, he is a young man who had to eat a lot of bread to fill full....Very disappointing. Only the friend who ordered the seafood crepe was satisfied.
Have eaten at Mon Ami Gabi in Bethesda for many, many years. The ambiance is always great, and the french bread outstanding. And our server Rueben was fantastic! He's waited on us before, and once again he was extremely attentive throughout our meal, was very helpful with some choices, and truly helped to make our anniversary dinner special.
The only item that was a disappointment was my steak with Bordalaise sauce. In the past, the portion of this entree was more generous. I recall the steak used to be a somewhat larger serving, and it was covered with yummy caramelized onions, with the great frittes overflowing on the plate.
Like many other restaurants, they are cutting back on portions, and that was a disappointment. Nothing stays the same anymore. But we will return, as so many other aspects were great, and it is one of our favorite places!
We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner at Mom Ami Gabi. We were seated within a minute, were given a large table due to my wife being extremely pregnant at the moment, and had attentive service the whole evening. Our server was very pleasant, the food was delicious & fresh, & we left very happy. I highly recommend this restaurant without any reservations & We will be back soon!
I’ve been coming to Mon Ami Gabi
for many years but unti this past
Valentines Day had never been for a
special occasion. My husband and I
we’re very pleased with our food and the excellent service. For dessert I had a flourless chocolate cake that was delicious. The
atmosphere was festive and upbeat and I left feeling satisfied with our
I asked for a specific area to sit and specifically not to sit at any of the booths, saying that we needed to be able to carry on a conversation. This was two times in a row that they completely ignored my request and placed us in a booth in direct path of waiters and customers and registers so very noisy. Previously this restaurant had always honored my same request. It took 75 minutes to receive our entrees. Appetizers took 45 minutes to arrive. Water, wine and bread came right away. Water was filled repeatedly which was great. Once received, the quality of food was very good.
my husband and i were celebrating our wedding anniversary and decided to go French this year. we came a little early and decided to hit the bar. the bar was small but quaint surrounded with wine bottles. lighting in the restaurant was dim and romantic. the bar tender was nice enough to make me a virgin mojito (currently pregnant) and it came out tasty. My husband and i had the scallops with buttersquash and steak (forgot which type) it was tasty. Then for dessert I chose the gala apples with ice cream and they did something special to it :) Overall experience was nice. One small issue was when our waiter didn't check on us for a good 15 minutes and my husband didn't have a drink for awhile because of it.
The menu was limited and the food ordinary. The lamb shank I had was not seasoned at all. The Brussel Sprouts were soggy and overcooked. The endive pear salad was unsatisfactory. The meal was expensive considering the quality of the food and its preparation - definitely overpriced. And it was quite noisy even though we had requested to be seated in a quiet area This was our third visit to Mon Ami Gabi and each time we went we hoped we would have a good dining experience. It was not to be - each time we left disappointed. We won't be returning.
Mon Ami Gabi is consistently excelllent and the setting/ambience feels French. There with friends and meals were very good. Waiter very attentive but a bit overly certain and earnest. I appreciated his assistance wit questions but others were not as much. Certainly not a big deal and I would be quite open to having the same server. I’d rather be taken care of so well than someone who didn’t know much and not helpful. Will certainly come back!!
After spending $270 for a meal, we came away dissatisfied with the overall experience when one person complained that the steak was very sinewy and hard to chew or even cut. The server's response, "Oh." Although listed as a birthday occasion, no recognition. They seem to be on auto-pilot.
Despite having said we were celebrating a birthday no one acknowledged that. Unfortunately we were also given the worst table near the front door. Every time the door opened a blast of cold air seemed to overtake the median temperature. I would have hoped that they paid more attention if you book your table well in advance. Lesson learned.
The food was very good and our servers were also good. I’ll go back but this time I want a table in the back.
We have been here several times and the food and cocktails were generally good. I particularly liked the special fish of the day - I don’t remember the name but it was black bass with spaghetti squash, clam, sausage and red peppers. My husband’s Trout Almondine was ok, he said. The cheese plate was good. I liked my cocktail, I don’t remember the name but it has rye whiskey, vodka, cinnamon, nutmeg and cream, I think. Very good.
Pretty much a perfect evening, enjoyed by the four of us who gathered for a friend's special day. As luck would have it, we were seated in a the back room, which, while large, had a noticeably lower conversation-volume level than the even larger main dining room. As a result our dinner was quite pleasant; think it might have been a bit hard to carry on a sustained conversation otherwise.
The profiteroles on the dessert menu were especially good.
I always like the food at Mon Ami Gabi, but don't often go because it is usually too noisy inside. We lucked out this time because it was 9:20 Sunday evening after a movie. No noise and we could actually hear each other talk. In nice weather, I always try to sit outside so I can have a conversation without shouting or saying "what? Huh?" the entire meal. When are restaurants going to learn that most people HATE eating somewhere that assaults your brain and ears?
Food was good however service was extremely poor. First off, we were a party of seven that was seated at table for six. Extremely cramped seating with hardly any room to walk in between tables to exit the dining area. Four people in our party were almost 6 feet tall so our comfort level was not that great. Our server never touched based with us to see how things were going or asked if we needsd anything. Food took almost 45 minutes to be brought out and no apology or check in by our server throughout our wait for the food. We had to flag her down for anything we needed including simply having our water refilled. Have eaten at the Reston location with an exceptional experience there. Too many other options in downtown Bethesda to have this type of service and seating for what you are paying.
