Service was excellent; the waiter became somewhat impatient as closing time approached but was discreet about it. Given the pandemic, there was a reasonable balance of caution and freedom.
The meal was very disappointing. I had the pre-fix steak lunch and a glass of the cotes du Rhône. Wine was good as was the service. However, the meal was very average. An average Caesar salad but most disappointing pounded thin sirloin as the choice cut for lunch . I will not go back again.
Pre-pandemic, I ate here every few months; but I haven't been since 2019. Here is my assessment based on this meal and my memories of meals past:
Food was good; not great. As is often the case, the frites served with their signature steak classique had clearly been sitting for a while before being served. In the past, I always asked for fresh, hot frites and was always accommodated; this time I did not make the request.
Prices were notably higher than 2 years ago. I had watched the price of the steak classique meal increase slowly from about $20 to $24. This time, the price was over $30 for the same meal.
One curious aspect of the menu was the "3% processing charge" which the menu said would be removed on request. Since I was a guest, I did not inquire about this charge; but if I had been paying, I would have asked for an explanation. Without knowing more, it reminded me of the charges often added by car dealers as "additional dealer profit".
The other somewhat unnerving aspect of the restaurant is that there has been no effort to create additional space between tables. Pre-pandemic, the close tables helped create an energetic atmosphere; now they simply encourage close observation of other diners who feel to close to you.
Great server named Federico!! Delicious food!
Consistently good. Always enjoy eating there
Menu hasn’t changed for a long time, service was slow but friendly - no professional wine recommendations
Food was delicious as usual, however the service was slow. I know that restaurants are experiencing shortages, but I would’ve appreciated the server checking on us.
Lovely French style Bistro. The appetizers were lovely. Rib eye was nice. The petite filet was a little tough. The fries were awesome.
We visited and were surprised to find a more limited menu. Some of our favorites are not currently available (eg. frisee salad & benaise sauce for steak frites. The waiter explained it was due to Covid.. but disappointed non the less.
Great spot. Bistro itself looks great. The food was delicious and moderately priced.
I used to go to Mon Ami Gabi all the time when I lived here. I moved 6 years ago. Didn’t feel the same. Onion soup was still the best!
Very nice food selection though menu trimmed by covid, I assume. Cesar salad a bit under-flavored but crisp and fresh. Bread used to be included but now costs extra. Given the increase in menu prices, a little disappointing. Service was ok, not great buy server was very pleasant. Tables nice spaced.
I took my 26 year old grandson for his birthday the food was excellent.
best french onion soup i’ve ever had, speedy and attentive service, lovely overall.
We love Mon Ami Gabi. For us it is a classical and we always want to return. The french fries are delicious.
The only problem was that we were a party of 6 and I had to call to be able to do a reservation. They told me that they were very busy before Thanksgiving and that they could not make a reservation, so I reserved for 4 and arrived there asking if they could accommodate a party of 6. The restaurant was almost empty and it was easy to have a table for our group. So you can’t believe when they said that is going to be full, because most of the times you would find a table.
This is the first time that a decent restaurant did nothing when i did put ‘celebrate birthday’ on my reservation.
Usually one of my favorites, but their pared down menu resulted in the items I generally enjoy (scallops and tartatin and the daily specials) no longer available. They no longer provide the carrot salad and bread that was standard when you arrive, and the food wasn't as tasty as usual. The ambiance and service are still top notch.
My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at the Bethesda Mon Ami Gabi on Saturday, November 20th. We chose Mon Ami Gabi to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary and this was our first visit to the restaurant. The atmosphere was relaxed, French Chic with tiled floors and ambient lighting. The manager, Adam Murphy, and our server, Braulio could not have been more kind and more attentive. They did everything they could to make our evening memorable and special. Their service was impeccable - they knew the menu well and made fabulous recommendations. They also checked to make sure neither of us had food allergies or aversions. Our drinks and food were delectable! We had the French Martini and L’Orange Crush - both were delicious with just the right amount of freshly squeezed juices. The Wild Mushroom Creme, Wild Escargot De Borgogne and Baked Goat Cheese Hors D’Oeuvres were the perfect start to our meal - all were served hot with fresh herbs. We had the Cavatelli Pasta and Hangar Steak for dinner and both were amazing - the pasta was rich and delicious and the steak cut like butter! We will definitely return to Mon Ami Gabi and will be recommending it to all of our friends and family.
We enjoyed the French Onion Soup, as always. The salad and skirt steak were delicious. However, the Skate fish was a disappointment and not what the waitress lead us to believe. However, when she was told that it was not at all tasty, she graciously removed it from our bill.
Mon Ami Gabi has always been one of my and my daughter's favorite restaurants, especially for a special occasion. I took her to dinner yesterday to celebrate her first report card of high school. She ordered the salmon and spinach salad and did not like the taste of it -- at all. In fact, she asked that we never eat there again. I was so disappointed as this was supposed to be a special occasion and memorable mother/daughter time. I had the salmon entree, and honestly for the price -- it was fair. The service was fair, and the water tasted like it came straight from the sink. Sadly, I agree with my daughter. There are far too many other dining options in the DC Metro Area.
Mon Ami always great. Service and food excellent.
Lovely in every way. The service was excellent, and the food was perfect. Nice wine selection.
Good place. Went here for a lunch meeting. Food and service were great.
Excellent food and service as always. An old favorite always delivers
Love it, been coming to Mon Ami since I was a kid!
A reliable and always pleasurable experience if predictable
Fun good good a little noisy.
Four of us went to this restaurant before a show at Strathmore
The escargot; the goat cheese; salads all were delicious
My trout almandine the best ever; others had salmon; seafood special.
Everything was wonderful we were all very happy with our meals I would return here again and again and again
Poor service and lack of attention to diners
Excellent celebration of my birthday.
The lunch we had yesterday was meant to celebrate my birthday. I met a cousin and we ate the prix fixe menu food. She had the Caesar salad, salmon and profiterole. I ate the mushroom soup, the salmon and the profiterole. She found the salad too full of cheese, but enjoyed the salmon and the dessert. I loved the whole meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant, which I have eaten at several times. The prix fixe menu is definitely worthwhile ordering from.
Service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and kind. Food wasn't that great- ordered the skate and it was overly deep fried with oil leaking, just completely over fried. Salad was good and escargots were also good. I think the experience was great due to the excellent service our server provided. He recommended a bottle of sparkling wine and made other food recommendations.
I made a 7:30 reservation but didn’t know the kitchen closed at 8 pm! So we felt rushed to order rather than enjoying our drinks. You need to tell people that the kitchen closes at 8!
Food was excellent! We had a great time and felt very safe with all the covid protocols.
Our server was friendly and patient. The food was top notch.
Friendly efficient service. Lovely atmosphere. Onion soup amazing, full of flavor. Baguette warm and delicious. Hangar steak one of the best we have ever had, tender and cooked to perfection. Fries delicious. Skate nicely prepared, but lacking in some flavor. Peach sorbet delicious. Chocolate mousse disappointing, strange texture. Overall a wonderful meal with friendly and efficient service. Would absolutely return next time we are in the area.
They have fabulous steak, service was awesome and the wine variety large
Mon Ami Gabi is one of my go-to restaurants in the area and it does not disappoint. Had dinner with an old friend and we had lots of catching up to do so quick service was not imperative. Our waiter was excellent even though he appeared to be lthe only server in our area. We certainly understood that restaurants are under staffed these days so it was not an issue at all. While I am used to a full menu, MAG has had to limit its menu options but it needs to add a few more pasta and non steak options. Wine was great per the servers recommendation. Will continue to return to MAG!!
