We ate outside, which was nice. However, the street musician with the loud speaker system across the street was a challenge. The food (steaks) were fine but nothing spectacular. The service was fine, but not outstanding. Given the price, I wish we'd gone somewhere a bit more memorable, but it's a perfectly solid choice.
Mon Ami was a great place to eat. The value for the meal was excellent. They do give you quite a bit of food so go there hungry. The staff was very nice and helpful. They may have been a bit understaffed but the waiter did an excellent job.
Understaffed and no bartender.
All three people in my party thought the food was very good.
The roast chicken was over cooked, the pasta with root vegetables didn’t work and the steak wasn’t anything special. We really enjoyed the appetizers of mussels and the French onion soup.
Don’t want to come back
Outdoor dining for weekend brunch. Everything was delicious. The waiter was very helpful with recommendations and very attentive. One member of our group was running late and they allowed us plenty of time to have her join us. Only challenge was a faulty umbrella which would have helped keep the sun off of us. But it certainly wasn’t enough of an issue to dissuade us from Kirs, baguettes with escargot and French onion soup. Then croque monsieur and quiche before finishing with excellent profiteroles and sorbet. Highly recommend.
The wait staff were so friendly and professional. We loved our waitress
Second time we’ve been to this location, as we have been to Vegas and Chicago several times over the years. We started traveling down to Bethesda to celebrate our anniversary since 2019–obviously missed last year—happy to be back! We had a great meal, but there were a couple of hiccups.
I had the escargot which were awesome. My husband has the mussel which were sandy—totally should have sent them back, but I think we are both so happy to be out at a restaurant, we just let it pass. We both had steak-different cuts, both delicious. The fries were a little potato chip like. We were surprised to not get any ketchup or mayo served automatically. Our server was lovely-we just got the feeling they were short staffed as we didn’t have the opportunity to ask for anything once we were served. I again ordered their house Merlot, and I highly recommend it. I wish it was possible to buy it on the outside-it’s that good! All in all, a great time. Please note: if you sit in the front room near the door it will be chilly if the outside tables are busy.
And, a sign of the times, they have started charging for their baguettes. Don’t skimp, they are served hot and totally worth it!
Nice brasserie-type place. Caesar salad was fine, as was mushroom soup. We both had the chicken & brie sandwich and the chicken was dry. Suggest you consider a mustard sauce or a chutney . Desserts - mousse and profiteroles were fine.
Always EXCELLENT! The web site said they opened at 11 but with COVID they open at noon. There was a line to check in and Many people were already sitting at outside tables. The manager was TERRIFIC- went around to check reservations and took care of patrons who didn’t have them. Salmon Salad is EXQUISITE!! Amazing service - we had so much conversation to catch up on and they didn’t rush us thru lunch.
5 STARS!!!! The inside bar is closed during COVID but plenty of tables available.
This is the perfect spot for a civilized luncheon, and the 3 course prix fixe is very fair. Service is professional and attentive, and the restaurant has the true feel of a French bistro.
The mussels, trout and filet mignon were delicious. Kids Mac'n Cheese were made freshly and came with fruits and beans, which the kids loved.
Food and service excellent, as always. Server excellent. Very polite and made sure I had everything I needed. Keep up the good work. I love the pre fixe lunch.
We were surprised that the service was so good! We had a wonderful waiter who made good suggestions for food and wine. You might have on hand specific instructions for finding the menu online, either on the website and/or on the table.
It was good to be back!
Our waiter Greg Smith was amazing! Very courteous and attentive even though he was very busy. He appreciated that we were patience with the wait that he gave us a free dessert. Made our day. This restaurant is one of our go to for Sunday brunch.
Always great.My Paris neighborhood Bistro.Love, love, love,love,love
Server was covering too many tables, bussing to clear dishes was very infrequent as dishes just accumulated. Lacked the usual attentiveness that Mon Ami was most notable for. Disappointing.
Great weather for outdoor dining for business lunch. Loved the menu and everything was delicious. Service a little slow- gotta keep your eyes on the clock if time sensitive.
I wish they would bring back the full menu and daily specials. Also, bring back the carrot slaw with crusty bread!!
It was a wonderful experience for my birthday. The service was excellent and we sat outside. But I could not order from the fixed price lunch menu because I needed gluten free options due to health reasons.
We enjoyed our meal as usual (we have been to Mon Ami dozens of times), but felt a few things weren’t up to previous standards.
In no particular order-
Outside tables were not well maintained and understaffed.
We missed the little appetizer (carrot slaw, etc.).
We thought it was a bit petty to charge for bread considering prices seemed to have been raised.
We missed some of the traditional menu items (frisée salad for one).
The tables in the street area could use some additional lighting.
The steak and fries (frites) at Mon Ami Gabi are consistently delicious! We sat outside which felt very comfortable and safe. That part of Bethesda has plenty of outdoor seating which makes it so much easier.
The restaurant is expensive, though
Dependable but operating on autopilot. Service was indifferent. My steak frites, ordered medium rare, was technically correct only in so far as it was rare on one side and medium on the other -- the line cook just didn't flip it at the right time. The fries were damp by the time they reached our table. The French onion soup was limp and plain. The wine list is okay. That said, the ambiance is pleasant, the menu is tightly edited, and the food better than you find in most suburban chains.
We greatly missed the bread and carrot appetizer that came with the meals in the past. Now, you must order and pay for the bread. We also saw that the menu and cocktail offerings are much fewer. And one of our group had the filet mignon and said it was very tough. When we mentioned that to our server, however, she took it off the bill. That was very kind.
The food is always good but the service not so. The waiters can be a. It friendlier
Excellent food and service.
This is my favorite chain restaurant and we have none in Colorado. We must enjoy in Vegas or DC area. The Steak Frites was superb with herb and butter sauce. The steak salad and steak sandwiches were delicious. Service was worrisome when they said it was slow going but service was also great. Thanks again. Viva la France.
Great for a date night with your significant other.
Entrees chosen by my party were adequate but undistinguished. I ordered the chicken which was slightly overcooked, a second person in my party opted for trout almondine which was reportedly very palatable but also undistinguished, and the third person in my party chose gazpacho soup and a salad (reportedly adequate). Menu is quite spare.
Really nice french płace in Bethesda. Confortable and good food. Very nice and helpful people at the front desk. The place was super busy and maybe the service could have been bit more attentive on less crowded night. But overall great experience and great wine selection.
Not good variety of choices& way overpriced for what was received
Lunching outdoors mid-day on a beautiful early fall afternoon certainly is hard to beat, and Mon Ami Gabi did not disappoint. The three-course prix fixe offered ample and varied choices, my selections were of good quality, and the services was outstanding. Our server, Julia K, though kept busy serving several tables, was attentive, helpful, flexible, and genuinely friendly.
great food! Snce 2005 it's my favorite
I'd suggest to clarify that reservations are for dining inside, and I'd recomend to buy heaters to continue to keep sits outside. These heaters will make even more like being in Paris!
We went to the restaurant to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The service and food were excellent. Julia, our server, was personable, professional and was available when we needed something.
I highly recommend Mon Ami Gabi!!
Unfortunately my steak was extremely overcooked. I ordered medium rare and received one well done. By the time any wait staff came around to our table again, the person I was dining with was almost through with their meal.
Sat outside on a dark table. Table light would have been appreciated as we had to use phone flashlight to read menu, much less see our food. Appreciate the variety in wine offering and their value. Food is standard fare with emphasis on red meat. I had roasted chicken which was dry. My guest had steak and loved it. Service was good although harried as we were approaching 8 pm on weeknight. All in all, a good choice for standard Bistrot fare and pleasant setting.
We sat outside on one of the street side tables and enjoyed the scene. Food was very good, nothing special but enjoyable. Our waiter was excellent, prompt and knowledgeable about wine. Creme brûlée was very good.
Excelent food but slow service
Everything was ok except the French fries that came with the steak frites. They were soggy and lukewarm. Very disappointing since we’ve been there many times and always had a very good meal.
