Service was a little slow, but friendly and fine. Though, that they charge for bread and add a 4% covid surcharge to your total is what put us off. I get that the government shutting down businesses affects many owners, but the two other local French restaurants (and many others non French ones too) we've visited since March of this year still give free bread and do not add a covid fee.
In fairness, the covid fee is clearly marked on the bill and it states the customer can ask to have it removed. However, who wants to do that in front of their guests, as they are trying to finish what should be presumably a nice meal? If they really want to add a covid fee, MAG should make it an opt-in vs an opt-out.
As for the food, it wasn't great and it wasn't awful. It felt like a Bennigan's for quasi-French food. The Caesar salad (see? Not quite French) was ok, but not impressive, i.e., store bought dressing vice actual Caesar dressing. The steaks were cooked to the right temperature, but very thin. We were comped a dessert, thanks to a coupon. It was vanilla ice cream on some type of puff pastry and topped with chocolate syrup. It was a very appropriate finish to our meal.
So, in the end, I think we visited MAG for our first and only time. The two extra fees and the average food weren't for us. That said, if I were with a friend who loved this restaurant and really wanted to go, I'd still accompany him.
This evening was extremely beautiful on a lovely fall evening. Tim, our waiter, was kind, thoughtful in his recommendations, and aware if and when we needed anything. Thank you for a wonderful evening out; even during a pandemic.
Love that you offer a lot of outdoor seating. Though heat lamps may be in order. I was surprised by how busy the inside of the restaurant seemed when I passed through. The steamed artichoke was delicious and the steak frite was top notch.
Our waiter Mike was the best.
One comment , I wish MonAmi had a better selection of Sancerre wine and other wine selections were thin.
Best burger I've had in years.
It was a wonderful evening! Everything was great.
Everything was great, but the number of mussels in the appetizer order was pretty paltry. Pot wasn’t even half full!
We keep coming back... The set up created by the Streatary on Woodmont allows for large tables with ample distancing, the staff wears masks and gloves, the service is prompt and always super courteous. Our server was always available if we needed anything, without hovering...
Food is delicious. There were three of us, appetizers were escargots (yummy) and mussels. Then I have the steak au poivre with French fries, my husband had the steak bordelaise and our guest the chicken grand-mère. Everything was delicious. We also ordered a side of garlic spinach (my favorite) and one of sautéed mushrooms. We were served quickly yet without feeling pressed. And of course the fresh baguette is a must-have. Fresh, warm and crispy, perfect with all these delicious yet light sauces.
Definitely a winner. We are looking forward to our next visit.
My only regret is the disappearance of the skate wing from the menu. I hope it will be back soon!!
We were delighted to finally be eating once again at Mon Ami Gabi. Next time we will look at the menu online before coming. (We can't see the menu very well on our phones and felt rushed by the waiter to make a decision.)
May Mon Ami Gabi be able to continue to serve outside as the weather gets colder. We will return!
Such a good experience! The food and service were on a high level. The street music was a pleasant surprise.
They are doing a fantastic job during these crazy times.
The staff is excellent adjusting to everything.
The food is great as usual and feel very comfortable eating there.
We had an outside table along the side of the restaurant which was quiet, not near others and very pleasant. The food was as always good but the menu is much more limited than before Covid 19. Also we greatly miss Happy Hour and its specials. If you are ordering mussels to eat in house or for take out make sure you know if they are bringing you the appetizer portion for $15 or if they bring you an "entree" portion which you then discover costs $30.
Our waiter Gregory was terrific and helped us select the wonderful cream of mushroom soup for starters. The food is great and it was terrific to eat in the expanded space outdoors
Food was COLD!
Great hors d’oeuvres. Champagne and beer weren’t cool enough.
From the beginning there was a service problem. The waiter came very late and was hurried. The kids did not get their promised amuse bouche and when I asked about cheese for their cheeseburgers I was told cheese didn’t come on it (he later brought cheese upon request). The steamed artichokes were steamed beyond being edible. When we ordered I ordered a medium rare burger. The waiter restated everyone’s orders and said I ordered a burger cooked medium well. I said no I ordered a burger medium rare. He said that’s what I said. And I apologized and said sorry maybe it was the masks making it hard to hear. I received a burger cooked medium well. And the waiter was never around to refill glasses or to get our credit card.
We had family in town visiting and while the food overall was great we were all very disappointed in the service.
Overall great place, great food, but over price for brunch drinks
Great lunch, very nice place and very attentive staff. Food was excellent, definitely would like to repeat.
Wonderful time w/friends. Enjoyed our lunch outside
Brunch eggs Benedict dishes were not well prepared. Cool kind of soggy potatoes ; bread not toasted. Regular menu items were good
Mon Ami Gabi is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. So, I was delighted to join my children and grandchildren for dinner there on Saturday evening. The weather was agreeable and the food, of course, was scrumptious. We ranged in age from 10 - 70 and every one of us loved our dinner choices. From steak and frites to salmon, the food was delicious. No dinner there is complete without the freshly-baked loaves of bread they bring to the table. We have not tried all of their desserts, but we highly recommend the chocolate mousse.
Great! Thank u! Great thank u great thank u great thank u the best place in Bethesda!
Had a lovely evening - ambience was just lovely - food good, except for a tad heavy on the salt. - very attentive wait staff - But the best part was being outside with special friends and Mon Ami Gabi found the recipe to keep customers happy in this very distressing time.
Great food and service
Excellent food and service, as always !
Birthday was super.
This review is based on dinner in the heart of the Covid-19 era, so we were outside, happily so but that also affects "ambience." There were plenty of tables, good spacing, all precautions taken by the restaurant. Service was outstanding. A happy dining experience in a tough era for all restaurants and small businesses.
Amazing outdoor seating and conscientious staff. Food was delicious!
It was simply fantastic. Our waiter Federico, just superb
A great restaurant as usual! Their French Onion Soup is excellent.
Food was standard, what you'd expect, kind of the McDonald's of French food, nice to sit outside, though. Service tainted the experience with server being a tad condescending and unapologetic for service/food mistakes. Not really eager to go back any time soon.
Love the new outdoor seating
Great evening outdoors
It was great as always
Terrible and rude service.
Great food, drinks, and service as always. Thank you!
Took advantage of restaurant week and had great food for less cost. The cuisine is always good at Mon Ami and this time was great. We ate on the sidewalk table under an umbrella and nice weather. It almost felt like normal times and we thank Mon Ami for providing the respite
Very nice dinner.
I was disappointed that there were no warmers in the patio,
It was chilly the evening I dined, warmers would had been great,
Took 90 minutes to receive the restaurant week pre-ordered lunch. Had to beg for a fork. Very slow service and server wearing a political mask. Not what I was expecting.
food was a little pricey wine was outrageous escargot and onion soup outstanding
