Great service and wine and meal. Tables are too close to each other. Felt overly public and ... near.
My wife and I enjoy going to MAG for date night. The food is excellent, the ambiance is very nice and the service is solid. We go on "off nights" so have no issues parking or getting a reservation at a decent hour. I also love the fact they have a full gluten free menu - its so accessible for people who have celiac.
Dear MichaelS, Thank you for the nice review! We are ALWAYS pleased to hear when our guests enjoy themselves. Please let me know if I can assist you with a reservation in the future. Warm Regards, Miranda Carbone Manager
We had been there last week too. With their wonderfully varied and creative menu, we still couldn’t help ourselves. We simply had to have at least one trout almandine again. Absolutely moist, succulent and full of delicate flavor. Our loyalty was rewarded. The French Bistro style steak and fries exactly as hoped. Ordered medium rare and came out juicy and packed with the flavor you are craving when ordering it. This time we broke all our promises to our selves and, instead of sharing one, had two desserts. They were just that good. By the way they also have a luncheon fix price menu that is excellent, clearly one of the best values you’ll find. Enjoy!
Variety of food is very good and the food is tasty. Unfortunately, our meal was diminished due to poor and somewhat indifferent service.
Service was slow and I never received a condiment which I requested at the start of our meal.
Wine selection is excellent and reasonably priced.
Great ambiance and atmosphere. The service was great and good value for our money. We will go back!!
Dear Anonymous, Thank you for the great review. I hope we have a chance to take care of you again soon. Please let me know if I can ever assist you with a reservation. Best, Adam Murphy General Manager
Although we have eaten here periodically for years, this is the first time we tried a Sunday brunch. As expected, the restaurant was very crowded — a reservation is a must. As we caught the end of Restaurant Week, we were offered a three course, fixed price menu for a reasonable $19.95, excluding drinks. While my friend chose the Mushroom Soup and Salmon filet, I had a Caesar salad and small steak with super crispy French fries. Although she skipped dessert, I finished with the Chocolate Mousse. We enjoyed our meal.
Dear MarysueV, Thank you for your review from Sunday. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your meal and that you were able to take advantage of the restaurant week menu. Due to the popularity of the lunch prix fixe menu, we have decided to make it a mainstay of our lunch menu. I hope that you will come back soon and join us for it. The prix fixe menu will be offered Mon-Fri at lunch. Thank you again and we hope to see you again soon. Adam Murphy General Manager
One of our regular haunts. Very consistent with respect to food and ambiance. This is not a negative comment. The outstanding items are always the French onion soup and steak and pomme frites. Excellent wine selection. I love the MAG's exclusive Chardonnay.
Dear YumYum, Thank you for the kind words. I like the Chardonnay, too! I hope you are able to join us again soon. Warm Regards, Adam Murphy General Manager
We happened upon restaurant week and it turned out to be a fabulous deal. Plenty of food and then some. On top of that we belong to the Lettuce Entertain You club and also received a free goat cheese and tomato app which included garlic bread (we took that home). The food was delicious! The dessert was a chocolate lover’s dream. My only “complaint “ if you could call it that was my trout almond one was swimming in butter. I would have preferred a little less “love”!
Also kudos to our server. I forgot my purse on the table when we left. I went back to get it and she was heading out the door with it to chase after us. Many thanks for that. 😊
Server was excellent!
Overall is ok, but Sold out Crème brûlée, so we had 2 same dessert.
We had a great time for restaurant week. The steak frites were delicious and we loved the dessert sampler
Dear Fred, Thank you for the kind review. I'm happy to hear the food was delicious. I hope you are able to join us again soon! Stay Warm, Adam Murphy General Manager

Dear James, Thank you for taking the time to write the review. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed yourself. Please let me know if I can assist you with a future reservation. Warm Regards, Adam Murphy General Manager
Salmon appetizer was a delightfully fresh taste and creatively presented. The traditional French Bistro steak and fries-steak cooked exactly as requested. Trout perfection-moist and delicate taste. So good we considered ordering another one. Others shared a single dessert which was more than ample and not a morsel remained.
Dear Kate, Thank you for your terrific review! It's always nice to hear when our guests had a nice time. You chose some of my favorites too - the steak frites and the trout are so good! Come back and see us soon and let me know if I can help you with a reservation. Best, Adam Murphy General Manager
I had a very good experience at Mon Ami Gabi in Bethesda. Mike was excellent and took very good care of us. He did not hover, yet showed up at appropriate times to check on us. I am very picky when it comes to wine, but he was able to recommend something that I liked and will ask for again.
I would go here again.
Dear Veronica, I'm happy to hear that Mike took good care of you. I will share your comments with him. We all appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your positive experience with us. It means a lot. Be Well, Adam Murphy General Manager
Always like Mon Ami Gabi. However, tonight, the service was slow - food took a while. Food was very good - vegan onion soup along with a chopped salad topped with salmon. Yum!
We came in for Restaurant Week and to celebrate my mother’s birthday. The host was rather rude when we were seated and didn’t give us the specialty menus. Finally a waiter came over and greeted us. And then another waiter, who stayed with us for the rest of our meal brought us menus. Elvin, our server was great, but there was definitely a rocky start that tainted the experience for us a little.
It was fine. Nothing special. Over the years many people raves about it and we just never chose to go. Finally our daughter asked us if we could go for a birthday dinner. It was fine. It was not bad but other French bistros or steak frites locations are much better. The bread was good.
Need to expand the options in the menu
The steak frites was amazing as were the desserts, an array of three. Had not been to the restaurant before Restaurant week, but so glad we went. Next time we go, we'll try to have the same waiter, whom we enjoyed so much.
Dear Nancy P., Thank you for joining us for restaurant week! I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your food and that you received good service. Your kind words mean a lot to us. Please come again soon! Warm Regards, Adam Murphy General Manager
Service is not what it used to be at this restaurant. Servers seemed more interested in chatting with each other than making sure guests were satisfied with their food. Our server Braulio, didn't even come over once the food arrived to ask how everything turned out. It took him over 15 minutes to ask what we wanted for dessert since we did the restaurant week menu. In my opinion, the restaurant week menu is not worth it. It is $20.00 a person for restaurant week. Portions are halved into kid size portions. There are plenty more Restaurant Week options that are well worth the visit, don't waste any time coming here. Will never come back to this restaurant.
Great vegan and vegetarian options. Excellent wait staff.
Thank you for your generous comments. We are receiving GREAT feedback on our vegan and vegetarian menu. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know that you appreciate. The same goes for your kind words about the service team. Your positive comments make us strive even harder to deliver an exceptional dining experience for our guests. Thank you! Adam Murphy General Manager
Mon Ami Gabi is very dependable and, best of all, only steps away from the Landmark Bethesda Cinema.
Dear MellowMel, Thank you for the shout out. It is our aim to continue to be dependable for you for many years to come. Warm Regards, Adam Murphy
Always amazing!! My favorite restaurant!
Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your review! I'm happy to hear that we are YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT! That is a title we aim to keep! Come often, come soon and we look forward to taking care of you. Best, Adam Murphy General Manager
Like always the restaurant was packed which did not help the noise level. Service as usual excellent and food was very good too. Since we had made reservations we did not have to wait, our table was waiting for us.
As always, great dinner here!
Dear LLTanna1, Thank you for the great comments! We hope you will join us again soon. Stay warm! Best, Adam Murphy General Manager
Excellent as always. Probably no way to avoid this, but sitting at tables along the wall--which are very close--pretty much assures you're going to overhear all the details in the conversation at the adjacent table. I'd really like to be a little farther apart.
Dear Steve, Thank you for your feedback. It's always tricky trying to balance the energy and vibe with personal space. We do our best to strike that balance on a day by day, shift by shift basis. Your comments are valid and appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to write in to us. Please let me know if I can ever assist you with a reservation. We'll do our best to accommodate your seating requests. Best Regards, Adam Murphy General Manager
Lunch service was slow in the bar area everything else was good
Authentic classic French music set the mood. The ambiance is the best. Today I went with my book by myself for a treat. Had an excellent waiter who was helpful and attentive but not intrusive. The food was magnificent. The coffee is the best.
Thank you, Marvegal. Your kind words inspire us to work doubly hard to deliver a great dining experience for all of our guests. Thank you for taking the time to let us know that you enjoyed your meal. Come back and see us again, soon. Cheers! Adam Murphy General Manager
Great meal, quiet restaurant, great service
Thank you for the positive words! We appreciate you dining with us and I hope are able to join us again soon. Warm Regards, Adam Murphy General Manager
Server was covering too many tables and we were that last to be waited on during the entire meal. Three times we asked another server to find our server.
Although the location in downtown Bethesda is great, including valet parking, revisiting Mon Ami Gabi after several years was not even remotely in my plans ( never a bad experience, but average ambience and food). However I'm glad I did. I have food allergies and the server was immediately attentive and helpful and there is a gluten free menu including bread. The by-the-glass wine we chose was not good but we asked the server for the half bottle of Schug pinot noir. When he brought it, it turned out to be a very different year from what was on the wine list and he acknowledged it, apologized and offered to bring something else if we didn't like it. It turned out to be very good so no problems there. I had the fish of the day - wild caught char. Delicious and so was the apple tart. Happy to have a Bethesda restaurant option with parking, good food, and where you can hear yourself speak. I'll be back!
Dear pfw1, Thank you for the kind words! I'm sorry to hear that the first glass of wine wasn't up to par and that the vintage for the Schug was incorrect. I am happy to hear that we were able to help you find a wine you enjoyed, however. We're happy that you returned and we hope to see you again and again. Please let me know if I can ever assist you with a reservation. Warm Regards, Adam Murphy General Manager
Delightful meal and service.
I always enjoy this restaurant; the food is good, especially their specials. The ambiance is pleasant and the restaurant is reasonably quiet so you can enjoy a conversation with a friend. The side room towards the back is the quietest of the three. I eat in Mon Ami Gabi 6 times each year.
Dear Sheldon, Thank you for joining us the other day. I'm happy to hear that you had a nice meal. Please let us know if there is every anything we can do to assist you in the future. Warm Regards, Adam Murphy General Manager
Overall food and service were good. Staff person broke an empty wine glass (and one that was never used yet replaced) at the table but didn’t clean up all the glass-had to point out large pieces to clean up. But our waiter was very good.
My steak however was undercooked, more med rare than medium. But didn’t send back...we were headed to the movies after.
After several visits here with less than great experience, this last one is indeed the last one. The deterioration in quality of food, especially the previously wonderful French Onion soup, as well as the indifferent staff and very high decibel noise level made this a disappointing experience. Too frequently the case here.
Service was prompt and friendly. Ambience very nice as always. Food was not as good as I’ve remembered in past. Roasted chicken was flavorless. Salmon was just a dead fish. Other food was uninteresting.
Brunch was a nice way to start the new year. The food was good and the service was excellent. Will be back for restaurant week.
Dear Robins, Happy New Year! I'm happy to hear about your great experience. I hope you are able to join us many more times in 2020. Cheers! Adam Murphy General Manager
Surprised to find both the steamed artichoke and the quiche lorraine overcooked. Suspect it's because an actual French chef would want to be creative, which is difficult with a chain-restaurant menu.
