The vegetable paella, bacalao, and flan are all excellent.
Food was great. It was only loud because there was a Spanish Guitar band and a flamenco dancer. They were very good but it made it a bit hard to talk. I think they have different bands one night a week. Would definitely go back.
I had received many recommendations for restaurants in the Iron Bound section but stumbled on this in Trip Advisor. I really didn't want a typical big Spanish/Portuguese meal before a show at the Prudential Center so this sounded appealing to me. My date and I were so glad we took a chance on this place!!! At first we were seated in the front area which was loud but with a great Saturday night vibe. But then I discovered a quaint covered patio area in the back and they quickly and pleasantly moved us out there. From the moment we walked in we felt extremely welcomed. Rachel was our server and she gave us great advice and was prompt with the service. The sangria was delicious and not loaded with ice. We had 4 rounds of tapas, all were very tasty and I look forward to going back and trying other dishes!! We were able to get in and out of there, not feeling rushed... or stuffed!!!! And walked up to the Pru Center for our concert. They do have larger dishes for those who want that and I will most likely return for that as well on a night when I am not going to a show. Give this place a try! You won't regret it!
We were going to a concert and needed a place to eat in walking distance to the venue. I picked this place after reading the reviews and so glad I did! The service staff were very attentive and welcoming. The atmosphere was cozy ( we sat outside), the food was delicious. We ordered a bunch of tapas and 1 entree (it was only 2 of us) and shared everything. Everything we ate was seasoned well, never needed salt or pepper (which were not on any table). The only reason I gave the food 4 stars was because some of the tapas were not hot when they were served. I would definitely go back again and bring my friends and family.
We were looking for a place for early dinner before a recent show at the Prudential Center. We had a short walk from the train and a little farther walk back to the Center. When we arrived, we were the only patrons. Soon after the place started to fill and was quite the place to be. The staff was attentive and friendly, the food fresh and tasty. We even enjoyed the music and hope to return.
Way under staffed. Service awful. Worst dish of "charred Octopus" I've ever had the misfortune of ordering. Rubbery, bland and not one iota of char. GROSS.
The food was great. The location in Newark is right on the main drag where a lot of new hot spots are opening up in this developing area. The ambiance was nice, laid back, and the noise level was reasonable.
My main complaint was the service, and especially the fact that the hostess never addressed my OpenTable reservation. When I later contacted OpenTable to see if the reservation even went through, they said it was still "pending," which means the restaurant never acknowledged receipt of the reservation. Also, the waitstaff were very quick to take our orders, almost to the point of rushing us, but after delivering the check, it was hard to locate them, so our needs and their needs were not at all aligned. Could be the time of day we were there (maybe they were trying to close).
I'll be back but ideally at an earlier time. The food is actually quite good, which is the real reason to go.
We always love it here!!! Great food and fantastic ambiance.
We had the private room downstairs for a party of 16. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the staff was attentive. Definitely plan on going back again soon
Went to Mompou for the first time, as we had a late flight out of Newark. We were pleased with the venue, the service, and the food. Good variety of tapas, and we liked all 4 we tried. Had eggplant, dates with bacon, cod croquettes, and chorizo. Sangria was good, as well. Free parking after 6 pm, too!
