The vegetable paella, bacalao, and flan are all excellent.
Food was great. It was only loud because there was a Spanish Guitar band and a flamenco dancer. They were very good but it made it a bit hard to talk. I think they have different bands one night a week. Would definitely go back.
I had received many recommendations for restaurants in the Iron Bound section but stumbled on this in Trip Advisor. I really didn't want a typical big Spanish/Portuguese meal before a show at the Prudential Center so this sounded appealing to me. My date and I were so glad we took a chance on this place!!! At first we were seated in the front area which was loud but with a great Saturday night vibe. But then I discovered a quaint covered patio area in the back and they quickly and pleasantly moved us out there. From the moment we walked in we felt extremely welcomed. Rachel was our server and she gave us great advice and was prompt with the service. The sangria was delicious and not loaded with ice. We had 4 rounds of tapas, all were very tasty and I look forward to going back and trying other dishes!! We were able to get in and out of there, not feeling rushed... or stuffed!!!! And walked up to the Pru Center for our concert. They do have larger dishes for those who want that and I will most likely return for that as well on a night when I am not going to a show. Give this place a try! You won't regret it!
We were going to a concert and needed a place to eat in walking distance to the venue. I picked this place after reading the reviews and so glad I did! The service staff were very attentive and welcoming. The atmosphere was cozy ( we sat outside), the food was delicious. We ordered a bunch of tapas and 1 entree (it was only 2 of us) and shared everything. Everything we ate was seasoned well, never needed salt or pepper (which were not on any table). The only reason I gave the food 4 stars was because some of the tapas were not hot when they were served. I would definitely go back again and bring my friends and family.
We were looking for a place for early dinner before a recent show at the Prudential Center. We had a short walk from the train and a little farther walk back to the Center. When we arrived, we were the only patrons. Soon after the place started to fill and was quite the place to be. The staff was attentive and friendly, the food fresh and tasty. We even enjoyed the music and hope to return.
Way under staffed. Service awful. Worst dish of "charred Octopus" I've ever had the misfortune of ordering. Rubbery, bland and not one iota of char. GROSS.
The food was great. The location in Newark is right on the main drag where a lot of new hot spots are opening up in this developing area. The ambiance was nice, laid back, and the noise level was reasonable.
My main complaint was the service, and especially the fact that the hostess never addressed my OpenTable reservation. When I later contacted OpenTable to see if the reservation even went through, they said it was still "pending," which means the restaurant never acknowledged receipt of the reservation. Also, the waitstaff were very quick to take our orders, almost to the point of rushing us, but after delivering the check, it was hard to locate them, so our needs and their needs were not at all aligned. Could be the time of day we were there (maybe they were trying to close).
I'll be back but ideally at an earlier time. The food is actually quite good, which is the real reason to go.
We always love it here!!! Great food and fantastic ambiance.
We had the private room downstairs for a party of 16. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the staff was attentive. Definitely plan on going back again soon
Went to Mompou for the first time, as we had a late flight out of Newark. We were pleased with the venue, the service, and the food. Good variety of tapas, and we liked all 4 we tried. Had eggplant, dates with bacon, cod croquettes, and chorizo. Sangria was good, as well. Free parking after 6 pm, too!
The food was excellent as always. My colleague from Spain says this food is as good as what he gets back in his home town.
3 hours later, still here drinking and having fun
This is my third time coming here and I will always recommend it to people. Great food, great ambiance and great customer service.
Overall, the food was good (chicken meatballs were a little dry) and the drinks were excellent. A little disappointed that they were out of churros but still have a Spanish coffee. Atmosphere was good; decoration gave a bit of a funky feeling
Awesome service. Food was authentuc, tasty and fresh.
We've eaten here a few times and have always been pleased. It is a good solid dining experience.
Love the ambiance. The wood wall and brick and contemporary lighting are wonderful! Food is delicious, both small plates and dinner menu. It was a full house and a bit noisy, only drawback. Would definitely return.
Mompou used to be really good. We were disappointed with the quality of the Octopus, it was very chewy (like rubber) and when we explained this to our waiter, he brought us another serving but it was not any better. Overall, all of the food was room temperature, and not all that special. It was expensive for what we got for the cost. The service was fine, not special, but no complaints about it.
Had a wonderful meal with a large group of colleagues earlier this week. The staff was excellent in service and advice regarding the menu and in accommodating our group. The tapas were all wonderful and we enjoyed the entire experience. The cocktail menu and tapas menu has selections that should please everyone.
Tapas here are as good as anything you could get in Spain.
We went to Mompou before a concert at the Prudential Center. It was very crowded and their was a live show. We sat downstairs which was fine because my friend and I wanted to talk. Service level was sporadic. Food came to table cold. We ordered 6 or 7 tapas. Most were just OK.
We ordered meatballs and waiter brought chicken meatballs. Chicken skewers were over done.
Excellent food, fun atmosphere, great drink menu, and so many veg options. Love this place!
Fun place for excellent tapas and great wine. Tapas as good as in spain. Good choices of wine. Mencia wine was outstanding.
We've been here before and always enjoyed it. Tonight was an exception. Of the four tapas, only the stuffed peppers were good. Pork was overcooked, shrimp tasted frozen and bland.
Great food and drinks. I hope our waitress was new and that was why she had a lot of missteps. Also, for a tapas place, tables are small for the number of plates and glasses on surface are. We were three and barely comfortable at a table for four. You end up hitting people and chairs on your way in and out of your table. I would definitely go back if I can sit at the bar and figure out the non-peak hours.
Delicious choice if you are going to a concert. Park across the street and take a cab to the arena. We really enjoyed everything. Eggplant was great, lamb chops yum. We didn't love the tuna salad as much as everything else. Loved the bacon wrapped dates. Fried calamari good too.
First, love Mompous. Second, they had a fabulous flamenco singer and there was NO cover charge! Great spot for drinks, tapas or dinner! Nice bar scene too. In the nice weather they've also got outdoor dining! Fabulous place anytime of year.
Excellent experience! Food was good a little pricy.
The hostess was superb but the service was slow despite a lot of standing around by the kitchen end of the bar by the waitstaff. My husband had to ask at least twice to have his glass refilled. The food was eh and way too salty. The speakers above our table were terrible and when they turned up the music, we complained and nothing was done about it. All in all, we couldn't wait to pay our bill and leave.
We had a late lunch, 2 adults & 2 girls 12yo. The food was very good and the wait staff was very polite, accomodating, and quick. There were only 2 other tables occupied and both had children. Food presentation was top notch and well prepared- very possibly I shorted them by only giving 4 stars on food. Its nice space with maybe 12-20 x 4-top tables with a long bar and seating. Large TV over bar playing soccer game when we were there. It was a good meal before walking over to Redbull Arena to watch a game (just under a mile).
Love this place!!! Great for biz Lunch or night with friends. Try it!
The food was incredible. I enjoyed the ambiance, atmosphere, food, service, everything! I will definitely go back when in Newark again!
Food was excellent! Our server, however, was just okay. He took about 15 minutes just to greet our table and get us water. It seemed like they were rushing us to leave towards the end because they kept asking if we were done and wanted the check. Also, we just ended up cancelling the last dish because it took over 20 minutes and it still had not came out even though we asked about it multiple times.
Very nice atmosphere. Food was good and the staff was great. I would go back again
Made a reservation based on previous reviews prior to attending a concert at the Prudential Center. It was greater than anticipated. Good food, friendly staff, and romantic atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent restaurant with fantastic attention from ALL staff. Food is over the top Delicious!
Excellent. Great place
Very good tapas, specially the tortilla and piquillo peppers
I will highly recommend this restaurant
So I bought tickets to see Bocelli at prudential Center for my wife for Christmas and was looking for a place for dinner. So Mompou rated pretty well so I reserved. The food was superb. Meat was super tender, sauces were so good I was ready to take gallons home. Service was top notch. Finished plates were removed in seconds. Most of all scored major points with the wifey. It's a month later and still getting rewards! I'm sure the concert had a lot to do with it but certainly Mompou set the stage. I'm from staten island. ... and will go back .
