Great food, and good service. This was a welcome find right in the heart of Mid-town.
Tasty gourmet Greek delites.....would have preferred more selection at lunch and more traditional Greek dishes....the lemon soup, octupus and deserts were delectable.....overall a very good experience
Spacious setting for Manhattan. Food ranged from good to excellent. Service was spotty, with poor coordination among the servers. My main course got lost. I ordered the special dinner, but the servers had little idea what to do.
Food is always fresh and delicious! We love it here!
Dined there last Sunday night. Restaurant was mostly empty. Pretty decor. But won't return. Food was mediocre. Nice heirloom tomato salad but rest of meal was nothing memorable. One dish--lamb ribs were all fat and had to be returned. Staff wasn't too attentive either. Had to be flagged down to get service.
Great Greek food and great find! Will be back!
Wonderful new decor, amazing food beautifully executed and delicious! The spare ribs appetizer was amazing!!! Will come back again and again!!
Very nice Greek restaurant. Traditional specialties with good service and pleasant atmosphere. Prices were moderate for mid town scene.
All the Greek standards in a white-tablecloth restaurant. You can have the usual spreads to start (eggplant, humus, fish roe) or go for something edgy, maybe the lamb spare ribs with a caramelized finish. The chef's special is served in a clay pot with potatoes and vegetables, this night it was cod.
But the highlight has to be that standard of standards, moussaka, which here has healthy chunks of eggplant and is topped with a creamy yogurt bechamel. If there's a better version we have not run across it either in this country or in Greece.
Good baklava, even better chocolate cake infused with orange. Service was knowledgeable and attentive.
The best octopus appetizer we have ever experienced! Would return to eat it as an entree. Almost entirely Greek wine list is quite interesting and the server knew the inventory as to make good recommendations.
Consistent very good food and service. We love this restaurant. We eat at this restaurant each time we visit New York.
found the new decor quite nice and enjoyable, more modern, so that it now goes along much better with the excellent food and service.
The food was excellent - especially the Domatosalata. I've never had beefsteak tomatoes that large. We ate early, and the restaurant was sparsely filled so the staff didn't have much to do and eagerly poured our water - even if the glass was still nearly full - and removed used dishes. It felt a little rushed. I didn't like the decor.
I truly enjoy eating at Molyvos every chance i get. Their menu is oh so good. They have a great wine list as well.
Elegant space. Had the pre-fix brunch/specialty cocktails before a Sunday matinee. Menu was limited, but all choices sounded interesting. We had the spanakopita, humas, salad & greek eggs benedict, plus expresso & rice pudding. Food & drinks were delicious! And the service was wonderful. Total was $92 w/o tip for 2. Not cheap, but reasonable for the experience. Would defiantly come back. Nice to have good choices in the theatre district. Cheers!
We went to Molyvos after a show and completely enjoyed our experience. The overall experience could have been enhanced by going at a more energetic time of night instead of post-show. If ever in NYC again, we will definitely dine at Molyvos.
good, Greek food, and beautiful dining room. It is very quiet, so you can have a decent conversation without yelling at the person next to you.
This is not your run-of-the-mill Greek restaurant! Being Greek and a cook, I am a harsh critic of Greek food. I give Molyvos a 5-star rating simply because it is the finast Greek restaurant I have ever been to. Chef Jim has taken the traditional dishes and flavors of Greek food and raised them to a higher level. "Gourmet" is not usually a word used to describe Greek food but at Molyvos, you will have gourmet meal that will make you want to go back again and again.
Miniscule portions, no Greek atmosphere at all. The food is good enough as far as it goes, which is not very far. What you get here is a "nouvelle" version of Greek food, which means tiny portions nicely arranged on a plate. A thumb size baklava is totally inadequate. Furthermore you would never know you were in a Greek restaurant. No Greek music or ambiance. If you want Greek food go to Astoria.
The food was ok, nothing that really stood out. I had the mousaka but there was too much sauce for my taste. Our waiter was too stiff and not so friendly. The place may have been redone recently and it looks nice, however, they are using the old fashioned Greek chairs, which are very uncomfortable. They dig into the back of your thighs. You get used to it but for a fine dining establishment, I expected more for my money.
Molyvos has to be the best Greek restaurant in NYC!!! Overall the food is amazing along with a fantastic selections of Greek wines. I could recommend every single item on the menu - all is amzaing - if you save room for dessert, the chocolate Baklava is to die for!!!!
With a recent facelift, this mid town Greek restaurant is a real "find"... If you are into eclectic presentation of traditional Greek meals and don't mind spending $50+ a plate, this is an excellent choice to add to your favorite's list. The octopus appetizer has a succulent meaty texture and not rubbery at all. The lamb chops are the best I've had. The Lavraki fish is always fresh and quite tasty when boned and served with a drizzle of VOO & sprayed with lemon juice and oregano. The flogera desert is to die for. Oh yes... the wine list is quite nice too containing lots of imported Greek selections. Every once in a while you get lucky & catch the manager showcasing certain vineyards offering you a $120 bottle of wine for half the price!
Exceptional Greek Fare - with many healthy choices
I enjoyed a terrific evening at Molyvos. Friendly and helpful service, handsome dining room, and a great place to dine and have conversation. We had the meatballs and the dolmades for appetizers (both great) and I ordered the lamb chops, which were perfect. The lemon/potato side dish was a big hit with everyone at the table.
It's so hard to find a solid restaurant in midtown, but this place is great. Not too fancy and overpriced, but still delivers tasty food in an elegant atmosphere. They are clearly used to the pre-theatre drill and will get you out the door relaxed and satisfied whenever you need to go.
Molyvos is an outstanding--if expensive--Greek restaurant. As is often the case with Greek food, the appetizers are especially delectable. The Octopus is terrific.
We never miss dinner at Molyvos when in NYNY-A lovely evening!
Delicious, consistently amazing food, the best fish in town.
I love this place, the waiters are very service oriented to the customer needs.
Jim is my favorite Cheif , he is very creative and always serves a great presentation to delight his diners.
I took a client here recently. Our waiter was particularly grumpy but I would not expect that to be a restaurant wide issue. We had to ask for a few things, but overall the flavours were interseting and new to some of us. The breadpudding was particularly good. Our main course were ok.
recommended if you particularly like Greek Food, but its not that good really.
Always an excellent meal at Molyvos, just love going there!
I'm a huge fan of Greek food, and this was a terrific Midtown find. All the dishes were perfectly prepared, and leaving a pitcher of iced tea on the table (a la sangria) so we could refill our glasses was a stroke of genius. Both my dining companion and I loved the experience and have already recommended Molyvos to many others. This isn't taverna food--it's more elevated than that, and the prices correspond--but the atmosphere is gorgeous and the service top-notch.
My husband and I went for lunch on my actual birhtday. We shared small plates of tzadiki, lamb meatballs and filo-wrapped lamb and shrimp. It was artfully presented and all were delicious. The ambiance was upscale and the noise level was quiet especially for a lunch crowd. Service was attentive but not particularly warm. It would have been a nice touch had they acknowledged my birthday. Would definitely return for lunch or dinner for the wonderful Greek menu.
Lovely experience at this wonderful restaurant.
Excellent meal and wonderful service.
Came here for an early dinner under the Restaurant Week menu. The table pita bread was served with some kind of cheese dip and house-made olive oil.
We started with the stuffed roasted red peppers. It was piping hot but a bit mushy. My friend's entree was the beef and lamb meat moussaka. It was a small pot but very rich therefore very filling.
My entree was the boneless pan roasted free range chicken. It wasn't very Greek tasting but I didn't like the other option on the menu (skewered shrimp). The potatoes that came with the chicken were very good--lemony and garlicy.
For dessert, we both had the warm chocolate baklava. Service was friendly and brisk but I didn't feel I got a good sampling of Greek cuisine.
Best greek food I've ever eaten! Whenever I come back to NY I will go to Molyvos, no doubt.
They recently renovated and have a nicer atmosphere. Fun wine and beer list also!
Excellent food and service. Just perfect!
Molyvos was recommended by a friend. We were very glad that we took her advice. The service was great, and the food was delicious. On the way out, we told the manager, or owner, how much we enjoyed our dinner at Molyvos.
I lived in Greece for a year, I LOVE Greek food. The food was good, but seemed to be trying too hard. Maybe it was to justify the prices? If you want really good Greek food, go elsewhere. If you want fancy food this is your place.
