My favorite restaurant no matter the occasion, a date, special best friend time, colleagues as the atmosphere is conducive to a wonderful experience, no matter what. The food is delicious, the best hummus I've ever had and wonderful service.
Beautiful setting with enjoyable food and a great wait staff.
Great - service very personal and attentive. Food delicious
Very pleased with food, ambiance and service. Prices are going up, though.
The octopus, hummus, shrimp and scallops were all delicious. We love greek food and Molyvos has some of the best.
The food was excellent, as always, but the decor has a cold feel to it, and the service, while well intentioned, was spotty. And excellent as the food was, the tab was very high. Convenient for Carnegie, but I'm not sure I'll be going back any time soon.
Not at all a traditional Greek restaurant. Not a lot of traditional food on offer. I ordered the slow cooked lamb sandwich and was really disappointed. It was more like a sandwich from a diner than a Greek restaurant and it came with chips!!
Restaurant was exceedingly hot. Service was average at best, bordering on inattentive. To be fair, our party of 3 was seated beside a very large party, also in our server’s section. The market fish was over cooked (snapper). The base starch was heavy and bland.
Tired food and service. Save your money for Milos or avra
I am so happy I picked this restaurant for lunch before a play with my girlfriend. It was everything I was looking for. The menu has so many choices from lite healthy to hearty entrees. The service was spot on. Lunch with a bottle of wine was a little expensive but worth every penny. I cant wait to go back
My chicken was oil drenched and looked and tasted like it was sitting out in oil all day.
The potatoes were soggy - not crispy and roasted.
Overall - I paid a lot of money for a low grade meal. I was extremely disappointed
Difficult to arrive when pre-theater crowd is in full swing, Our waiter neglected us at the beginning, slow to take our drink order. Food was great. Got much better when theater crowd left.
We were a group of 3 people and had a great experience. Very nice staff and delicious entrees and appetizers.
Enjoyed the Greek wine selections as well. Looking forward to eating there again on future visits to NYC.
Very professional. Food excellent. They deserve their Michelin inclusion.
Always a special meal here. Yummy marinated grilled prawns and scallops dish...the best anywhere!
Delicious quality Greek food restaurant!
Always exquisite! Great food, beautiful ambiance, and excellent service.
Had not been to Molyvos for a while and was impressed by the makeover the restaurant has had - it looks more sophisticated versus its old rustic, country look - a beautiful upgrade. I had lamb chops which were superb and my partner had cod, also very good. The reception was professional and friendly and when we were led to a small, tight table in the bar, we asked for something better and got a better 2-person table at the front of the restaurant.
We were given time and good counsel on wine, a bottle of white for the table and a special glass of red for my lamb.
The side choices on the entrees were creative and tasty as was dessert. Reasonably priced for all we had. A very good experience.
The fish is always so fresh and delicious. Side dishes and starters are excellent too. Service is very attentive.
The room is jammed pre-concert because Carnegie Hall is just next door. It empties enough after 7:30 to have a relaxed dinner.
It is a very busy place pre-theater, being between Carnegie Hall and City Center so the kitchen has to be really on the ball. I am always leery about doing dinner pre-theater at a fine-dining restaurant as you can 'miss' and not get their best effort.
But Molyvos felt like being transported to Greece! Not a beat was missed in everything we ordered.
Grilled vegetables; Grilled Halloumi Cheese, Grilled Octopus and 1 lb. of Sea Bass, also grilled and a side order of Tzatziki with dill and cucumber.
You might say, 'so what - you simply had some grilled dishes - what's the big deal?"
Everything was grilled to perfection and had an accompanying sauce or complement that made every dish delectable.
The vegetables were all exceptionally fresh and the timing of each separate vegetable was also perfect; the octopus was grilled to perfection which is often overcooked yet had a perfect char to it.
Sea Bass was also just right and tasted fresh caught. The Halloumi cheese was flambeed table side without excessive fanfare and was delicious.
The coffee was strong and not overly hot (a pet peeve of mine when coffee is scalding) and then the Chocolotina!
This was really wonderful. Creamy and unctuous and deep, dark chocolate and not too sweet. Really a perfect mouse.
The decor is understated and has a casual elegance to it.
It was obvious the place was filled with regular theater-goers and every dish coming out of the kitchen looked intriguing.
The service was excellent but there is a bit of a rushed
First time there but certain to return.
We topped off the evening with Ballet Flamenco around the corner at City Center. Absolutely fabulous.
A great night out.
The receptionist at the door was not inviting but the table waitress, Shana, made up for her.
This is the first time in all the years we have been going to Molyvos, that the service was non existent. We waited 20 minutes before we had to call the waiter. We waited for the food to be served 4o- 50 minutes. The food served was not hot. The lamb chops were over cooked. Is there new management?
The Greek food was reminiscent of the food we got when in Greece. The experience was enjoyable -- we even spotted two TV actors! Definitely a place the locals go.
Receptionist was so rude after we requested different table.
Overpriced and mediocre. Kiki’s is much better and much cheaper.
Great Greek food and drinks. Service was very attentive and friendly.
Reliable mid-town restaurant for before or after Theater or anything else. Food is great! we were there on a Monday when it was quiet--which made for 3 hours of a leisurely meal and great conversation.
When w arrived we told our waiter that we had to leave for the theater by 7:20. Our appetizer came on time but our main course did not come until 7:15 consequently we only had 2 bites. We repeatedly reminded the waiter that we needed our dinner and the waiter kept saying, "it's coming out now." There was a woman manager and we asked her to check with the kitchen. She told us she would check with the kitchen but we never saw her again.
We also felt that the food was not the best quality (overripe tomatoes in the salad, etc.) I had been to Molyvos often in the past and I liked the food and service but after this experience I will not go there again.
Food was not great. Service good enough. would skip it.
Molyvos has been a favorite for many years. It never disappoints!
There isn’t a better value in the Carnegie Hall vicinity than Molyvos. In fact, it’s one of the best values in Manhattan. The food is consistently excellent, the service friendly and attentive and the prices too good to be true. I’ve been dining here for years and have never come away disappointed.
It was really expensive, but the food is very authentic.
The food here was excellent and we know good Greek food. The service is what was lacking, the “table assistant” was wonderful and mindful of refilling water, bringing bread etc. Our waiter really was quite the opposite; not very personable, didn’t check on the table or wine frequently and we waited over 10 minutes from the time we were seated before he even made it to the table. I don’t mind waiting but in similar restaurants we are accustomed to a waiter/waitress just swinging by to say “Hi, I’m _____ and I’ll be right with you.”
The food, service, and atmosphere were all great.
Good selection, very good food, outstanding location near Carnegie Hall
A plate of Molyvos's grilled octopus is always a must on Carnegie Hall nights. As usual, it was very good, although prepared in a manner different from the past. Likewise, as usual, the service was good, and the noise was at a level that permitted reasonable conversation. Will return when our next concert occurs and will, as usual, order octopus.
As always, food, service, ambience, excellent!
Molyvos continues to be a terrific Greek restaurant. I was surprised to find it uncrowded in the middle of the week. The octopus salad was very good, the service was fast and no one pushed us out the door.
