Quiet ambiance, granted we were seated at 5 pm. Plenty of room between tables. Excellent service and attention to allergy. Each of thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Thank you for making my birthday special. We appreciate your service and delicious food. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for the private corner booth. Just what we needed!
Pre-theatre dinner. Attentive wait staff made it possible to have both a relaxing dinner and leave in plenty of time for the show. Also very helpful and attentive bartender prior to our being seated. Definitely will return, especially pre-theatre.
The food is amazing, the staff is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is a good balance of lively but not too loud.
Must try the octopus and feta sticks!
A gracious dining experience. The doors had just opened but I was immediately led to my table and offered water, a cocktail and a plate of warm pita with a creamy hummus spread. The waiter took time to pleasantly help me choose my dinner items. The ouzo flamed hamouli was the best I've ever had and followed it with perfect baby lamb chops plated with a bit of frissee salad and potato croquette. The baklava pastry was a different style then I am used to but perfection with the hot coffee.
A welcoming delicious dinner!
Just the freshest, best food one can ask for in the middle of Manhattan.
Used to have wonderful Greek food and I have eaten there many times over the years. The quality of the food has declined and nothing I ate was very good and everything was overpriced. Could not recommend it anymore. Such a shame that it has gone so far downhill.
As always, Molyvos did not disappoint. The food and service were excellent. There were plenty of options for the vegetarian in our party!
We try to get to Molyvos every time we’re in NYC. Although a bit pricey, for us, it is definitely worth it!
Thank you, Molyvos!
We enjoyed our dinner very much. The sardine appetizer was delicious as was the moussaka
For appearing to be a high-end restaurant, the service, quality of food and overall experience fell short. We were left for long periods of time without inquiring if we needed another glass of wine, more water, if we are ready to order, etc. and it took us 20 minutes to pin down the server and ask for the check. When they were table side, their demeanor was hurried, disinterested, inconsistent and unfriendly. The dishes were plated sloppily and seemed lacking, not justifying the cost whatsoever. It was an overall disappointment and wouldn’t recommend.
Server was rude.
We were seated in the back of the restaurant away from the bar area and seating near the windows. The spacing between tables was perfect. Noise levels very reasonable and it was not difficult to have a conversation over dinner. Our server was excellent attentive but not intrusive. I ordered the octopus appetizer and seafood risotto. My wife had the hummus appetizer, lemon potatoes and steamed spinach no salt. The octopus was served luke warm and not sure if that was correct or not. Also I believe it was a little over cooked. Not crazy about the hummus like pea purée spread that is served with the pita bread and the octopus sat atop of. Seafood saffron risotto was rich, tasty and there was a nice quantity of seafood. The hummus appetizer was excellent, the lemon potatoes my wife did not care for and said did not taste like lemon and she felt the spinach was over cooked. It’s been a while since the last time we ate at Molyvos and eating at a Mediterranean type restaurant usually offers food choices that will satisfy a gluten dairy free person (wife’s reason for her three dinner choices). Probably will not make an effort to return in the very near future.
It was okay. Was not wowed either by the food , decor , or the staff. Didn’t really receive a warm welcome from the hostess. Have had better Greek food in the suburbs of NJ. Expected more from a Greek restaurant on the UWS. Just meh.
we've been to many Greek restaurants in NYC (Manhattan and Astoria) the food at Molyvos is the best - excellent chef dolmades and the kolikokeftedes were even better than my mother's. outstanding. the service was also excellent
After going to Greece on our honeymoon we were craving some Greek food and they did not disappoint!
Excellent meal and service. Noise level made it difficult to hear my wife. Not good for people with hearing aids . Still, a lovely celebration of wife's birthday.
We returned to Molyvos with fond memories of festive dinners there, and once again enjoyed an evening of outstanding food and exceptional service. Highly recommended for a relaxed and elegant atmosphere, as well as excellent location.
Good menu. Attentive service. Quiet enough to hear each other. Would go back.
Triple dips were excellent as starters and Molovos knows how to make a melt in your mouth lamb shank. Wonderful dinner.
The Octopus was delicious!!
I was unaware of the special pricing menu for New Year’s Eve. I’d have appreciated a notification when I made the reservation that there’s be a $90 per person per-priced meal and automatic 20% gratuity. I ended up spending over double what I planned on. The service between courses was slow. Our meal wild have taken two and a half hours if we hadn’t questioned the progress.
A long-time favorite we've recommended many times to friends.
In the center of the Carnegie Hall area, staffed by engaging and informed staff, in a crisp, clean setting with high ceilings, this Greek gem is a "go to" place for us at the 7:30 time slot when most patrons have left for the theater. We especially enjoy having several appetizers along with Hummus, warm pitas and olive bread. Then several small plates, recently they were octopus and a sardine preparation I've never had before. Delicious! Combined with glasses of Greek wines and served at a leisurely pace, you relax and slip in to an approximation of dinner on one of the Aegean or Adriatic islands. Consistently well prepared food and an abundant wine list with many available by the glass, Molyvos never fails to please.
Waiter made some good recommendations re: appetizers for the table - but we did not receive our main courses all at the same time and the kids, who should have been served first, had the longest to wait. (receiving theirs after the adults). It was very busy at the restaurant and we were a table of 7 so I understand that it was hard to serve everyone at the same time. My husband had to ask a second time for his beverage and it was hard to get the waiter's attention since it was a busy time. We told the waitstaff ahead we had tickets to a show(8 pm) but because of time crunch (we came at 6:30), there was no opportunity to stay for dessert. The Greek food was prepared well - we enjoyed the octopus, salad and the other appetizers. Main course (moussaka) was fine. Location was convenient to Studio 54 and easy to access from public transportation. We did appreciate the fact that the manager called us to confirm and was able to give us a table of 7 so we could dine together.
Visit to NYC
Delicious cuisine & (usually) friendly staff
Traditional Greek food served in a quiet setting; make sure to try the meat balls ... succulent!
Very good Greek Restaurant.
Cosy Atmosphere, Exelent service, very worm welcome from the hostress.
We will cetairnly come back.
Excellent Greek food and great service. However, prices are too high, although in line with New York City.
We went to Molyvos before a performance at New York City Center. They promised we'd be out in time for the show and met that promise (although we were concerned by our wait for the food). We had two spreads to start with (the eggplant was fine and the tomato one was really unique) and then three different seafood dishes (one black sea bass, one scallops and one seafood pilaf). All three were excellent. In hindsight we should have had an additional spread or another appetizer and we felt we didn't have time to have dessert and coffee.
Our waiter was more then helpful with regard to picking many small plates and apps that would work with my wife's onion allergy.
Having been here many times this was the first time I was made to feel unwelcome by a hostile and aggressive waitress. I did bring it to the attention of the manager on my way out and she did apologize but it’s left an me feeling unsure as to whether I should return. Asking for limes with my water or if they have any specials shouldn’t warrant rudeness towards a customer
One of our favorite restaurants in NYC, great seafood.
We arrived and were greeted with a friendly smile. Half hour early for reserv., but no problem.
Waiter very courteous and food well prepared and appetizing. Perfect for pre-concert at Carnegie Hall...just a short walk down 7th Ave. Merry Christmas
An innovative menu that captures the imagination and the palette surrenders to exquisite food and service.
The waiter brought us water and did not come back for 15 minutes to take out order. We arrived at 1:35 pm. The waiter did not take our drink or appetizer order until 2 pm. The meal did not arrive until after 2:35 pm. Good food but the wait was absolutely too long.
The food is excellent with a great menu and good service
My only issue is that the bathrooms are not well maintained and often a mess with garbage flowing out of the can, empty toilet paper, and paper all over the floor. It would be wise for staff to visit the bathrooms and clean and restock throughout the evening
Very nice atmosphere, warm, friendly with great authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Waiters and bartenders were professional and friendly.
My cousin and I were meeting for dinner before seeing the ballet at City Center. The location was perfect.
I requested a quiet table in the corner and that's exactly what we got. We went very early (5:30) so it was neither crowded nor noisy. The food was superb, we shared a glass of wine because we didn't want to fall asleep during the ballet, which was exquisite (Assyrtiko). We stayed till 7:15 and our waiter never rushed us or hassled us about leaving. This is now my "go to" restaurant for all events in that area. It's very pretty and I felt happy to be there.
Great. Was going to Carnegie Hall and they made sure our meal was out quickly. Best sardines ever and the type of spreads were excellent along with the grilled octopus
